Clearly there was something enticing about this Eagles bid, possibly the ability to go to a team with the chance to win the Super Bowl from the NFC.

of course ... at least part of the reason why ballplayers sign with the Yankees (OK, the fat paycheck is more important ... but both make that team's/city's asshole fans more tolerable).

It's hard for me to say whether these are the same problems the Eagles have always had (inability to finish games, stalled important drives, red zone issues, impatience w/ the running game) just writ super large or some kind of new problem. The defense is the worst I've ever seen it, at least since I started paying serious attention to the team in high school. The offense is incredibly talented, but somehow Reid has become even worse over the years at basic stuff, like drawing up intelligible plays or using players effectively. Maybe the problem is that Reid keeps leaning on these explosive offensive players (McNabb, Westbrook now Vick, Jackson) to pick up the slack from his -- apparently -- ineffective gamecalling. And Vick can't be a superstar every week (tho he is often the only bright spot in these games)

at the moment -- and obviously a lot can still happen over the season and they could theoretically still turn it around and even make the playoffs -- this feels like reid's last season in philadelphia

depends on the player. afaik jackson doesn't even have his new contract yet.

this wide 9 defense is the worst piece of shit i've ever seen and that reid + castillo persist in using it is very telling about the quality of decision making coming down from the top.

also, reid's constant bitching in the post game conference about how we can't blame the defense too much bc the offense didn't score enough was like complaining that michael vick wasn't magical enough this game to bail reid out. maybe the problem was the whole 12 run plays called (!!!!) + mccoy running 9 times for 18 yards, and not vick going 30-for-46 for 416 yards (a career high), two touchdowns and an interception

nervous about vickjuries, silly hopeful about philly qb of future foles, cautiously excited for new football! i think it'll be okay. they'll play better than last year. i'm pretty sure.

i didn't post anything on this thread but westbrook retiring as eagle moved me so much. i know it's routine for that kind of guy and i should've known it would happen, but i was still uncertain. i don't know why it matters to me but it does.

same with dawkins! but yeah, westbrook was a special player and seemed like a good guy, i probably felt closer to him than any other eagle since i've been old enough to care other than maybe mcnabb obv. tra thomas did the same thing this summer too
