i had to load IE yesterday because a low-budget college website's information system wouldn't support my browser. the experience was very late '90s. (xxxp with the post about browser incompatibility)

they could be trying a "rolling blackout" approach.

maybe the problem's only happening for people who got forcibly upgraded to new twitter? i had switched back to the old version because the performance was better

"Since October of 2009, we have had an agreement with Twitter to include their updates in our search results through a special feed, and that agreement expired on July 2.While we will not have access to this special feed from Twitter, information on Twitter that’s publicly available to our crawlers will still be searchable and discoverable on Google. Our vision is to have google.com/realtime include Google+ information along with other realtime data from a variety of sources."

right, it'll be there, but not instantaneously like it was before
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 4 August 2011 19:39 (twelve years ago) link
which is what made it so valuable to me
New Twitter's been garbage for me on all browsers in all OSes. Always unacceptably slow, and half the time the page just doesn't appear at all. I presume all the focus is on APIs and mobile apps now.

fwiw for the curious
destroy twitter is good and really minimal
tweetdeck is good if you've got a lot of things you want to monitor via hashtags or if you're doing more than one account for some reason
hootsuite is ugly and overrated but fine enough
twitterrific & twirhl are too slow

hoos idk if you're on a mac or not but if you are have you tried the official twitter mac desktop client and if so is it worth anything
― markers, Friday, 5 August 2011 04:08 (twelve years ago) link
I mean if 31.99% of users use the web site then Twitter is failing to provide a solid service to 31.99% of its users. But then again that list includes "TwitterFon" and "Tweetie" so

you say that like all 32% are having trouble with the new client--that doesn't seem to be the case across the web or even in this thread.

there is some weirdness -- i just uploaded an avatar and now i'm watching as it appears next to some of my old tweets but not others, although it seems to be appearing next to more of them than it was earlier, so

okay twitter is loading for me again.
i really don't see why i should have to mess with a separate twitter client, all i want to do is load a page and see a reverse chronological list of stuff the community cast has said recently.

official twitter for mac is the best, most lightweight dedicated client I think

Part 1: If 32% of all users use the web site and it's broken (apparently not the case) then suck.
Part 2: A list that contains product names that were changed a billion years ago is probably out of date.

I'd love to know why the site keeps fucking up for me then.
btw the popularity of TweetDeck continues to elude me, being probably the most cluttered Twitter app I've ever used. It's like the Bloomberg of social networking.

If you use m.twitter.com on an iphone you get a banner directing you to the app store. I don't think I've ever seen anyone in the wild (with an iphone) use m.twitter.com
