xp omg. Twitter, get yer act together.

Gary Barlow syndrome (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 5 August 2011 04:06 (twelve years ago) link

fwiw for the curious

destroy twitter is good and really minimal

tweetdeck is good if you've got a lot of things you want to monitor via hashtags or if you're doing more than one account for some reason

hootsuite is ugly and overrated but fine enough

twitterrific & twirhl are too slow

what do you mean by this?

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 5 August 2011 04:06 (twelve years ago) link

hoos idk if you're on a mac or not but if you are have you tried the official twitter mac desktop client and if so is it worth anything

markers, Friday, 5 August 2011 04:08 (twelve years ago) link

I mean if 31.99% of users use the web site then Twitter is failing to provide a solid service to 31.99% of its users. But then again that list includes "TwitterFon" and "Tweetie" so

Gary Barlow syndrome (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 5 August 2011 04:08 (twelve years ago) link

i like new twitter, u can watch youtubes right in there

ice cr?m, Friday, 5 August 2011 04:09 (twelve years ago) link

yeah that's a nice feature

markers, Friday, 5 August 2011 04:10 (twelve years ago) link

i switched to it like the first day it was available

ice cr?m, Friday, 5 August 2011 04:10 (twelve years ago) link

Me too. It's great when it loads.

you say that like all 32% are having trouble with the new client--that doesn't seem to be the case across the web or even in this thread.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 5 August 2011 04:15 (twelve years ago) link

there is some weirdness -- i just uploaded an avatar and now i'm watching as it appears next to some of my old tweets but not others, although it seems to be appearing next to more of them than it was earlier, so

markers, Friday, 5 August 2011 04:17 (twelve years ago) link

probably a database thing

markers, Friday, 5 August 2011 04:18 (twelve years ago) link

damn, what kinda fuckin weirdos were still using old twitter

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 5 August 2011 04:41 (twelve years ago) link

*nods* i might try it out at some point

Somewhat mystified that folks are using the twitter web site where there are so many better client substitutes.

Stockhausen's Ekranoplan Quartet (Elvis Telecom), Friday, 5 August 2011 04:44 (twelve years ago) link

yeah idk i just tend to use the web interface for most web things -- like, i don't use mail.app, i just log into gmail.com

markers, Friday, 5 August 2011 04:46 (twelve years ago) link

YoruFukurou for OS X is packed with win.

Gary Barlow syndrome (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 5 August 2011 04:46 (twelve years ago) link

okay twitter is loading for me again.

i really don't see why i should have to mess with a separate twitter client, all i want to do is load a page and see a reverse chronological list of stuff the community cast has said recently.

a dry, airless meringue (reddening), Friday, 5 August 2011 06:10 (twelve years ago) link

had no idea so many ppl accessed twitter via the website

official twitter for mac is the best, most lightweight dedicated client I think

nh (cozen), Friday, 5 August 2011 06:12 (twelve years ago) link

doesn't have the ~power user features~ of something like tweetdeck but otoh doesn't have the bloat either

ive tried Tweetdeck and Tweetie and neither of them make as much sense as just going to the website to me \o_o/

Might try that official app tho

I don't get this

badg, Friday, 5 August 2011 06:25 (twelve years ago) link

scrolled too quickly down that list and thought i saw a client called TwitterFuc

a dry, airless meringue (reddening), Friday, 5 August 2011 06:27 (twelve years ago) link

badg

Part 1: If 32% of all users use the web site and it's broken (apparently not the case) then suck.

Part 2: A list that contains product names that were changed a billion years ago is probably out of date.

Gary Barlow syndrome (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 5 August 2011 06:27 (twelve years ago) link

yah i shoulda sourced the list, its from a techcrunch article from the fall

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 5 August 2011 06:28 (twelve years ago) link

badg, Friday, 5 August 2011 06:29 (twelve years ago) link

this puts twitter.com use at 35%

fyi the official mac app is an updated version of tweetie iirc -- they purchased tweetie a while back

markers, Friday, 5 August 2011 06:31 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i'm wondering how long til they start integrating tweetdeck functions since they bought them recently

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 5 August 2011 06:32 (twelve years ago) link

I'd love to know why the site keeps fucking up for me then.

btw the popularity of TweetDeck continues to elude me, being probably the most cluttered Twitter app I've ever used. It's like the Bloomberg of social networking.

Gary Barlow syndrome (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 5 August 2011 06:34 (twelve years ago) link

do twitter.com users use m.twitter.com on their phones then?

nh (cozen), Friday, 5 August 2011 06:34 (twelve years ago) link

If you use m.twitter.com on an iphone you get a banner directing you to the app store. I don't think I've ever seen anyone in the wild (with an iphone) use m.twitter.com

Gary Barlow syndrome (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 5 August 2011 06:36 (twelve years ago) link

i've never used tweetdeck before but my understanding is that it's suited to power users

That's what I don't get. It's inordinately popular for a power-user app.

keep in mind how many people use twitter for marketing, and how well-suited to that task tweetdeck is

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 5 August 2011 06:44 (twelve years ago) link

notice in that admittedly dated table i posted that tweetdeck has, within a tenth of a percent, the highest ratio of tweets to users

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 5 August 2011 06:46 (twelve years ago) link

tweets per persona?

idk

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 5 August 2011 06:46 (twelve years ago) link

v good point xxp

Gary Barlow syndrome (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 5 August 2011 06:46 (twelve years ago) link

i imagine part of td's high ratio of tweets:users comes from the user broadcasting from multiple accounts--i use 4 regularly, for instance.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 5 August 2011 06:49 (twelve years ago) link

twitter web page seems to work for me now. i did try new twitter a while ago when it was optional but switched back in about an hour b/c i couldn't get with it. i still don't get why it had to change at all.

most external twitter clients are separate applications, i don't want to do that. doesn't running loads of programmes hog memory anyway?

lex pretend, Friday, 5 August 2011 07:00 (twelve years ago) link

i have my personal acct, a dc-inside-joke parody acct (that i hate myself for having), and two accounts i run on behalf of organizations. also keep up w/my cofounder's feed while he's away & usually have a column for some conference or hashtag that's holding my interest for the moment

xp
