Fool's Gold Records will release Danny Brown's new underground opus XXX on Monday, August 15th as a free download on foolsgoldrecs.com.
The first full-length release from Danny since his acclaimed The Hybrid in 2010, XXX is a concept record about hedonism, growing up, and Detroit, taking listeners on a profane and psychedelic journey through the uncensored mind of rap's most electric MC. There's no laundry list of guest appearances or producers-for-hire, keeping the focus squarely on Danny and his rhymes: a triple stack of pop culture references and did-he-really-say-that? provocations atop the heart of a poet.
Fool's Gold and pioneering streetwear brand ALIFE will premier XXX with an invite-only event in NYC this Saturday (8/13) featuring live performances by Danny Brown, ASAP Rocky and DJ sets from Nick Catchdubs. Danny will perform alongside Action Bronson and FG label mate Party Supplies at Rockaway Beach on August 20th, and join Das Racist on their "Relax" tour throughout the USA all this fall.

is the greenberg album good y'all?

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 10 August 2011 16:02 (twelve years ago) link

Its short and sweet, like 20 minutes. Pretty solid overall, best when Roc Marc is rapping. Some of the beats have this murky tension to them. Def worth picking up imo, especially if you liked Marcberg.

streetball technician in the flesh (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 16:27 (twelve years ago) link

i should check both those out

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 10 August 2011 22:10 (twelve years ago) link

Cool.

streetball technician in the flesh (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 23:05 (twelve years ago) link

yeah that's another good one! i think NYC stuff can still be cool, but all three of those mentioned are going at it right, like a real dusted, fucked up vibe instead of pretending that NYC is still on top, all these losers trying to be jay or 50 when that's over

it seems like it should be more freeing for ppl, like just do what you want

i might be exagerrating a bit, but yeah for some reason 2011 i just haven't been listening to much hip hop

om nom nom nnamdi asomugha (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 23:10 (twelve years ago) link

I kind of feel like the new G Rap fits that mold, although a little less "dusted."

streetball technician in the flesh (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 23:12 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i only heard an advance EP from that kool g rap but i liked it

that said i can pretty much listen to kool g qua kool g for infinity and still like it

i actually was looking for roc marciano on spotify and this old school sorta later period b-list cold chillin' records dude i used to like named grand daddy i.u. has a brand new album out! crazy! it's p good, hadn't thought of him in years and years

om nom nom nnamdi asomugha (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 23:15 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, P & Roc & AG are just making dope regional rap, when that's really what NY rappers should be doing right now.

tine nic (k3vin k.), Thursday, 11 August 2011 03:12 (twelve years ago) link

i'm not sure exactly what the deal is, tho i'm willing to bet that noz doesn't have a lil b tattoo
