I hear the Rundgren on your Myspace page Dominique for sure. Claire could be A Wizard, A True Star outtake.

balearic joy overload moment of the day/week/year: the period from 4:00 to 4:22 in rune linbaek's disco dub of montee's "i have seen the haven" (hint: see http://talkinginstereo.blogspot.com/2007/11/version-rune.html)

Essential Purchase: Kaoru Inoue - Secret Field

Even the name works perfectly! The original is this very slightly discoid wander through flickers of guitar and percussion, while Todd Terje gives a lovely remix that's like the very best stuff on the Lindstrom & Prins Thomas album.

Tim F, Friday, 23 November 2007 23:19 (sixteen years ago) link

very late to the party on this but i can't stop listening to "freefall" by a mountain of one. like spirit of eden-era talk talk in self-indulgent pink floyd fanboy mode or something. gorgeous! (i've also only heard the 1st ep)

impudent harlot, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 02:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Kaoru Inoue = Crue-L right?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 02:59 (sixteen years ago) link

the 2nd MofO ep is even better, but yeah its a pink floyd / weatherall rockout.

Does Coyote fit under this Balearic genre? I just heard a few of their tracks. "Pretty Wasted" is wonderful. As is "Crazy World"

van smack, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 02:44 (sixteen years ago) link

I know somebody mentioned them at some point

New Invisible Conga People track (on their myspace page) "Cable Dazed" is just brilliant - the equal of "Weird Pains", which is saying a lot. Eeerie synth patterns and close harmonies. Like Delia & Gavin being as good as they're supposed to be.

I'm hoping that Italians Do It Better get around to releasing these two tracks on two sides of a vinyl.

Tim F, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 12:49 (sixteen years ago) link

About invisible conga people:

first 12" out in february.

too long!!

dmr, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 14:46 (sixteen years ago) link

xpost - the Windsurf tracks that are on that mp3-only release will be coming out on their EP on Internasjonal.

love the Bonar Bradberry, and loving the new Aeroplane too (though it's the dub that wins out over the original for me). did we talk about Cage & Aviary? i can't stop listening to "Television Train". anybody have any other info about them & future releases?

BATTAGS, Monday, 31 December 2007 01:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh my god Bonar Bradberry. "Beat The Bed" sounds like "Closer To God" in parts - love it! I want a whole compilation of stuff like this and Ronny & Renzo's "Big Smack & Flies": evil screwed synth-disco.

The Beatdown version is fabulous also.

Tim F, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:52 (sixteen years ago) link

did we talk about Cage & Aviary?

there was a little bit about Dissident on the beardo thread. very curious to hear some of that stuff.

dmr, Monday, 31 December 2007 17:10 (sixteen years ago) link

any info on fontän, the swedish group with a 12" out on information in spring? only one of the members' names pull anything up on discogs, but probably not the same guy (early 90s death metal?)

+ studio's yearbook 2 coming in spring as well, according to the site

lucas pine, Sunday, 6 January 2008 10:34 (sixteen years ago) link

is yearbook 2 all new shit?

J0rdan S., Sunday, 6 January 2008 10:44 (sixteen years ago) link

site just says "INFCD3 Yearbook 2 - Out in spring 08!" but it's probably collected remixes? there's a good list of the 'collaborations' on their myspace:

Shout Out Louds - Possible (Studio Version)
Rubies - A Room Without A Key (Studio Version)
Love is All - Turn The Radio Off (Remake by Studio)
A Mountain of One - Brown Piano (Remake by Studio)
Studio / Brennan Green - East Side & Escape From Chinatown
Kylie - 2 Hearts (Version by Studio)
Williams - Love On A Real Train (Version by Studio)
(what is that^^?)

probably should be in the studio thread

lucas pine, Sunday, 6 January 2008 10:53 (sixteen years ago) link

What the hell is "Escape From Chinatown"??

Also, has anyone heard the West Side 12 inch with "Part 1" and "Part 2"? Is it just an even longer version split into the two halves?

Tim F, Sunday, 6 January 2008 12:36 (sixteen years ago) link

yo tim, how come Studio's album didn't come up higher on the pitchfork list? shame

occamsrazor, Sunday, 6 January 2008 12:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Don't blame me, it was my number one choice!

Tim F, Sunday, 6 January 2008 13:32 (sixteen years ago) link

yep, mine too. that list is totally corrupt.

occamsrazor, Sunday, 6 January 2008 16:00 (sixteen years ago) link

"Escape From Chinatown" latest 12" on Brennan Green's Chinatown label. Both sides collabs btwn Green & Studio w/ Danny Wang. Really great 12".

Capitaine Jay Vee, Sunday, 6 January 2008 17:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Also, has anyone heard the West Side 12 inch with "Part 1" and "Part 2"? Is it just an even longer version split into the two halves?

the brennan green remix 12" is one-sided
the 7" has a pt1 and pt2 which are both done by studio.

i can leo if u want.

gr8080, Sunday, 6 January 2008 17:04 (sixteen years ago) link

here is what Jay Vee is talking about:

If you haven't already, you need to download this Peter Visti DJ mix from 2-4 Hours - one of the best balearic mixes I've heard, perhaps the best, and I've heard a lot of Balearic DJ mixes this past twelve months.

As with (the reliably excellent) Phil Mison, Visti seems ultimately a bit housist - as lush and as dreamy and as sumptuous and as floaty and as swirly as this is, the kickdrum remains steady and the vibe is kinda tracky and anti-songful. The result is like an alternate deep house (not a million miles away from Henrik Schwarz, actually, although without the techy edge) - total flotation tank music.
