I'm told the Trek store does better cheaper maintenance; Trek I know but apparently a friend of a friend works there and can take care of me.

Thanks all! Definitely feeling it today.

12 miles in 45 minutes, may not sound a lot but it's my first ride in ten days since my shoulder flared up. Felt so good. Hope the shoulder is still ok in the morning.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 12 September 2011 19:10 (twelve years ago) link

Shoulder improving fast now I'm exercising: did another 14 miles in 50 minutes this morning, pretty much all flat to avoid hills and therefore strain on the shoulder, but I feel so, so much better already.

19 miles tonight. Very happy to be back.

After a summer of fighting tourist traffic across the Golden Gate Bridge, they re-opened the west span for bikes only, at the same time they finished road work on the gorgeous hill climb right off the bridge. Fifty of us celebrated with a pre-dawn raid, donuts and coffee at the top.

At the end of the ride I glimpsed a dude with four circles on his kit and some attention-grabbing shades ...

lukas, Thursday, 15 September 2011 16:20 (twelve years ago) link

Hahaha, you never say hi anymore... :D

I was overgeared on my flatland cassette and died on the top of the hill. Gonna try again in a few weeks on my 12/25.

An absolutely glorious day here in Glasgow today! Wonderful sunshine all day, but nicely cool because of the time of year. I went for a brilliant blast up onto the moors south of the city, where the 360 degree views were stunning, and then back down into town, with my best friend, who has recently caught the cycling bug from me and become my regular riding partner. Pretty much the best of times!

just for the record, dying = "soft"-pedaling at 350W for 2.5 minutes in my 23t "granny" (sic)... like 50rpms. this hill has stretches of 9-10%.

will come back for a quality VAM soon...

last time i rode that same hill w/shasta, the rest of the crew we were riding w/told me they were scared of him and then, when he reached the top, he came back down to where i was and rode back up w/me as support

Man I want a power meter to see how pathetic I am. Maybe I will reward myself with garmin power pedals if I can shift another 5 kilos by the time they ship.

Use a wattbike in a gym, Ed! I struggle to maintain over 200W for more than a few minutes.

Mark C, Friday, 16 September 2011 14:53 (twelve years ago) link

i'd think the strava calculated watts is probly +/- 5% for long climbs (over 4% for 300+ ft of vert?).

never ride your bike because you're always hanging out with girlfriend who is probably going to dump you anyway C or D

lukas, Saturday, 17 September 2011 19:46 (twelve years ago) link

nice little spin today, longer ride tomorrow.

Good chat about bike fit with other LBS that is not full of arseholes, wish I hadn't been turned off them by one surly shop assistant. Their service price list is much cheaper than the scunners at Pro Bikes.

Also discovered Bicycle Heaven Pittsburgh, part bike museum, part bike shop although no idea what was for sale and what wasn't.

Oh and I wore my gilet today. Return from west virginia border was a bit of a sufferfest. 65km of on and off headwind, more on than off.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Monday, 19 September 2011 01:49 (twelve years ago) link

as it was down to 41 deg F going up high grade this morning, i rocked the gilet. it was 65 deg by the time i got back down tho. perrrrrfect day.

remembrance of schwings past (gbx), Monday, 19 September 2011 16:40 (twelve years ago) link

23 miles today. Had to shoulder the bike to take some steps where there's work going on at the cycle path. Managed not to back spasm whilst doing so.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 17:16 (twelve years ago) link

Cycling in Glasgow really felt like a battle today - mainly to do with the traffic, but having a drunken ned physically attempt to climb onto my bike after I refused him an aggressively requested 'backie' while waiting at a set of traffic lights was another highlight.

25 miles in bright sunshine this afternoon; it's nicer in Devon today than it was in Ibiza yesterday, almost.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Sunday, 25 September 2011 14:54 (twelve years ago) link

it sucks to climb for an hour, anticipate a record downhill, then get stuck behind a sunday driver going 30 mph nearly the entire 20 min descent. total pisser.

yeah, niche-y, that's what i meant (Hunt3r), Sunday, 25 September 2011 15:26 (twelve years ago) link

Absolutely soaked after the last 30 miles of a 70 mile ride ended up being in unrelenting torrential rain. Pour the water of your shoes and wring out your gloves territory. The hot bath that I'm running just now & the hot dinner right after are going to feel SO good.

just call me brian (krakow), Sunday, 25 September 2011 16:04 (twelve years ago) link

Both those encounters sound sucky.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Sunday, 25 September 2011 16:32 (twelve years ago) link

i'm better now, it was a great morning for a ride. left in the dark before dawn, saw the sun come up over the foothills while climbing up a gorgeous canyon up to 8400 ft, tons of hot air balloons launching over the lake on the way home. temp went from low 40s to nearly 70 by the end, and it was all done by 9:15. everyone should have it that good.

it was worth it to read some subaru outback's license plate for 10 miles.
