I like Risotto a lot more than everything on Second Toughest... with the exception of the track "Pearl's Girl".

i got into fluke while everyone else was digging underworld. only got oto and risotto but they're both gold, the former especially. 'bullet' and 'ok' are jams 4 all time.

That typical driving Fluke beat/bassline is so great! I mean, Electric Guitar (humbucker) - just cannot sit still.

I was thinking of a May I Dedicate A Little Poll To Fluke, but I doubt there'd be more than five votes :-(

i picked up the six wheels .. cd for a wallet busting 99p a couple of weeks ago (along with a grid cd)

Love Oto, and Risotto ain't half bad, but picked up six wheels... some time ago and it was eeeuuuuurgh get this jazz outta my face.

man the moodier stuff on Six Wheels is fantastic - "Slowmotion" and "Astrosapiens" especially

I like the Global Communications mixes of Slid better than the original Fluke version.

I WAS WRONG. 2 Bit Pie turned out to be kinda awesome in parts: downbeat angry electro clattering. Right up my alley.

for some reason this album passed me by on the first couple listens but now I'm starting to think it's really good? like about as good as the best Fluke albums.

Syntax's album rules too. shame they didn't do more.

Idk, I used to like fluke for their lyrics, especially on oto, they were different and inventive and usually good fun. Then I get to track 3 of 2 pie island and it's "nobody never made me feel like you do"... well as long as he's happy ಠ_ಠ

lol I was listening to Risotto this morning and thinking "wow, after the first two tracks it's like Fluke had this great idea just to make an entire album's worth of tracks like "Pearls Girl" - I bet Dan would love it."

Possible thread idea: X artist's album Y = an extended meditation on B artist's solitary track C.

So, found 'Oto' a couple of weeks ago.
Its basically a 'Shriekback does ambient techno' album given that both Barry and Martyn are featured throughout.

I have 'Six Wheels .. ' and enjoy it, but I have to say, I love the presence of Barry on 'Oto'.

picked up Risotto yesterday for a few quid.
Six Wheels, Risotto, and Oto : what an amazing run of albums.

at the moment, my fav track is Reeferendrum. (a remix of Absurd, but not labeled as such on the album - on the Absurd singles it was)

fr though Fluke is pretty cool, always wanted to grab some of their stuff on vinyl cuz it's generally cheap (outside of Risotto) but you'd have to import it which would cost like twice what the record itself does

wonder whatever happened to Syntax. they had some 3xEP thing lined up but only released the first one. ten years ago. I'm guessing they ain't gonna do the other two

found something very cool the other day - the Six Wheels On My Wagon 2xLP

has a sticker that says "comes with bonus Techno Rose of Blighty EP" but sadly it did not. oh well it was only $12 because it was beat to shit and I bought it because I thought maybe it could be cleaned

and I was right! the records look ROUGH but outside of the first 30 sec or so of each side they're pretty decent! or maybe pulsating techno music covers up surface noise well (in fact I'm sure this is it, between tracks you hear it but once the beat drops its inaudible). I do notice this with a lot of 90s electronic stuff, the records themselves look dirty but actually play nice.

fantastic album, idk what you call this sort of video game techno but it rules so much. it fits in with stuff like Brown Album & those early Underworld singles but also still sounds very Madchester. "Astrosapiens" man what a tune

Also file under progressive house I guess. Techno Rose of Blighty is great too - definitely check out Philly or Joni for some funky techno synth pop.

And they released some fantastic mixes of Groovy Feeling & Electric Guitar (LollyGobbleChocBomb!). Really miss those days when the 12" would be 40 odd minutes of remixes, often by the band themselves.

First half of Puppy (stretch from My Spine to Switch/Twitch) is pretty damn good upon revisiting. Overall not a bad record, but not nearly the iconic behemoth Risotto was. Hard to follow up one of the best big beat albums of the 90's, just ask Crystal Method.

If this new one is as good as Puppy I'll consider it a win. It's hugely unlikely anything they release will be as wall to wall epic as Risotto.
