quote about costello is one of music's classic truth bombs, but voting for

"People talk about Eric Clapton. What has he ever done except throw his baby off a fuckin' ledge and write a song about it?"

I mean...

iatee, Friday, 16 September 2011 23:59 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, that's just mean and defamatory ... and i don't even like eric clapton or his music.

soul ma cosa nostra (Eisbaer), Saturday, 17 September 2011 00:02 (twelve years ago) link

that is totally the harshest line

still voted nick cave, tho, because it's truer

mookieproof, Saturday, 17 September 2011 00:02 (twelve years ago) link

i only just saw the Nick Cave quote ... shit, it's a beauty.

soul ma cosa nostra (Eisbaer), Saturday, 17 September 2011 00:04 (twelve years ago) link

in Aguilera's defense, she said that back when Gaga was barely famous, and was arguably less known for her music and more for a) looking like Christina and b) being speculated to have really been a dude

some dude, Saturday, 17 September 2011 00:08 (twelve years ago) link

nonetheless, flea loves him some Nick Cave so no hard feelings (or they haven't heard what Mr. Cave said about their music).

RIP NME

that's kind of tragic, RHCP as the puppy looking up at Cave with nothing but love and admiration while he scowls down at them in disdain

what's more likely, that Flea actually said "rubbish" because he was talking to a British interviewer or that the interviewer misquoted Flea as saying "rubbish"

some dude, Saturday, 17 September 2011 00:21 (twelve years ago) link

cave on rhcp ix good but i love the angie bowie line so that

Johann Hari wrote that article.

Voted Elton because it seems like he only befriends celebs for the purpose to hold pissing contests with them later.

I can attest that even if you are a person who would never in a million years use the word "rubbish" in conversation, if you talk to the English press they will occasionally claim that you said something was "a bit rubbish" and you will scratch your head when you run across it years later

some dude, Saturday, 17 September 2011 02:39 (twelve years ago) link

were you in fact 'slagging' something or was it entirely invented

mookieproof, Saturday, 17 September 2011 02:41 (twelve years ago) link

I think what I'd said was that something "didn't really work for me" and I was quoted as saying it was "a bit rubbish" - same thing happened another time with "a bit crap, really!" which I laffed my ass off, I think we were all in the van together and I was like "guys guys here's this interview with me, stop me when you figure out why I'd wanna read it out loud"

pathos of the unwarranted encore (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Saturday, 17 September 2011 02:45 (twelve years ago) link

steven tyler and our noel agree -- college kids radiohead are 'a bit rubbish'

Aerosmith's Steven Tyler: "WUTS ALL THIS THEN?"

James Ferraro Boyz (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 17 September 2011 02:57 (twelve years ago) link

dude seriously you would have been apoplectic, we were riffing on it in the van for quite some time: "hey guys I said 'I have to admit the other side has a point' and it came out 'fair play to them then at the end of the day'"

pathos of the unwarranted encore (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Saturday, 17 September 2011 03:07 (twelve years ago) link

the sandwich you were eating during the interview became a blood sausage, etc.

some dude, Saturday, 17 September 2011 03:12 (twelve years ago) link

crazy thing is i actually saw an RHCP interview on TV recently where i vaguely Flea said something that struck me as more highfalutin and possibly anglicized than i would've expected from him, so i'm honestly not sure if he did say "rubbish"

some dude, Saturday, 17 September 2011 03:17 (twelve years ago) link

did he weigh in on the gravity of the situation facing the home counties

Lou Reed on Zappa: "He's probably the single most untalented person I've heard in my life. He's a two-bit pretentious academic, and he can't play rock'n'roll, because he's a loser. And that's why he dresses up funny. He's not happy with himself, and I think he's right."

some dude, Saturday, 17 September 2011 10:58 (twelve years ago) link

i actually thought of the lou reed quote on frank zappa. i think that the quotes are from a compiled list and the lou reed quote didn't make the cut for whatever reason, though.

So a child named Jeremy can call his mother "mummy", whereas Richie has to call his mother "mum" or else she'll box him about the ears?

rustic italian flatbread, Saturday, 17 September 2011 11:33 (twelve years ago) link

it's basically about middle class people being butthurt
