Hah, I've just read the rest of this discussion and, well, if you haven't worked out that Britta is a massive dork by now then what show have you been watching? She can do mean-spirited snark (ie everything she said to Jeff for most of the first season) but gentle comedy has always been beyond her. The pizza stuff was funny because it was so lame. And she was kinda high.

Also where is Professor Ian Duncan? Presumably doing Daily Show stuff and Britta studying psychology suggests he'll turn up at some point but I am missing my dose of hilarious fake Britishisms.

john oliver's character is good when he's but he never felt like so much a part of the show that i care whether he comes or goes.

First good episode of the season.

also: the jeff britta romance was fun and tense and hilarious! this annie thing is gross and i know thats the joke but its TOO GROSS

i don't get this at all. allison brie is gorgeous. the only reason i ever even remember the age discrepancy between jeff + annie is bc the show itself keeps reminding me of it. if it didn't i'd probably forget that these two attractive actors weren't close enough in age to be in a relationship. so to call it 'too gross' bc of the very context the show maintains seems a little selective and strange.

I liked how removing Jeff from the group = everyone ends up happy.

I feel a bit sorry for Troy and Abed because Annie would be the most annoying anal flatmate imaginable.

The look Troy was shooting Abed when he invited Annie to stay with them suggests he feels the same way.

I am still massively in awe of Troy's timeline

I think I would understand the stance against Shirley's baking if they'd actually said her baked goods were bad; since it seemed to be a nebulous "you can't define yourself with baked goods" thing, it felt more like the group was ganging up on her for the sake of ganging up on her.

Britta is really surging back this season as a fucking hilarious character! She has been hitting all kinds of highs with me every week. Ha.

Last week's was by far my favorite episode of this show that I have seen.

It really wasn't even the group -- I don't think anyone would have minded if Jeff hadn't started harping on about how it was a bad thing. It seemed like another example of Jeff being a fun-hater.

that makes more sense, although I'd think by this point Jeff would have started shedding some of his "I remake you in my own image" tendencies

That was perfection, probably in my top 5 episodes ever. The penultimate scene with Jeff's arm was amazing.

This makes me sad however:

Pretty much think that Alison Brie's acting/comedic timing is the worst part of the show, I'm really surprised that anyone rates her. She's just so awkward and always "on" in the worst way.

Everytime I watch this episode I repeatedly rewind to see the two seconds of "flames in the troll's eyes/Roxanne on the soundtrack". A gif of that would be nice, but it wouldn't be the same without the song.

more than just the jeff negativity i feel like this episode made explicit the 'troy is secretly the hero/protagonist' thing they've been pushing at for a while

oh i don't find it gross because of their age difference or for a lack of good looks on either side. the way that they awkwardly invoke the age diff/annie's maturity & jeff's greasy lines and too-serious cheek stroking--it's like squirming bordering on setting off my gag reflex

I'll admit that it worked a little better in season 1.

My dream for the next 4ish years of this show is that it is retired after exactly 6 seasons and a movie, and the move will be called College Cut-ups 2: Party Raid Academy

I actually think that Ken Jeong, Danny Pudi and Donald Glover are as good if not better when it comes to physical comedy, but they're mostly all good at it, maybe only Chevy Chase lets the side down.

Shirley's transition from 'hopeful bustling walk' to 'furious bustling walk' cracks me up every time.

seeing some snippets of Chase going from casual Chevy to awkward or bumbling Pierce on the S1 DVD extras made me hugely appreciate what a beast he is at physical comedy

C'mon, Chevy is like the Miles Davis of falling over

I despise everything Chase has ever done (except for Community, to my own surprise), and even I'd agree with that statement.

Though that cigarette gag was Airplane!-worthy.

She's just never met a joke she couldn't strangle to death with OTT overacting. I think the show immediately gets less funny whenever it's focusing on her. I think Joel McHale's comic timing is really labored on the show too, fwiw.

I was going to try ranking the stories but they were all hilarious. Shirley is super underappreciated, I think.

Shirley's story was the fucking best, mostly because of the Dean. Dude is on fire this season.

Lags in comparison to the last ep - you can see why that was intended as the third in order - but plenty fun. Still I was cracking up all throughout - Britta covered in blood, Abed's ruthless logic, etc.
