I use the word weird here b/c of the deep obsession dude has with this stuff, and obviously disproportionately large amounts of time he's thought about it.
Maybe "creepy" is a better term.

It irks me that an Irish Catholic doesn't uinderstand the dangers of glossing over racism in American history and identity - but then it always has. Same for his sister, too.
