meek mill is a bigger rapper than asap rocky right now w/ almost any rapper i've interviewed. Every rapper wants that asap rocky buzz but how many of them listen to it & are like "yeah asap rocky is a dope rapper"? none

lol ive been posting on these threads for 3 years now, i didnt think implying that you were into rap blogs would make you catch feelings

1) he has a narrative that's MUCH more interesting than "earnest rapper gets signed doesnt put out music than does". blogs and magazines create naratives around these guys and then they all just line up to the pump . asap's is way more rich

i don't think he was overly buzzed based on "peso" & "purple swag" unless, again, we're talking of millions of dollars and whatever expectations come with it

this kinda thing happens to indie rockers ALL THE TIME, and as major labels have died, the playing field in rap has shifted more towards the model that indie rock has been on for years now. the only thing is that rappers are still expected to go major, so at some point things get thrown out of wack.

but having lots of 'industry buzz' after two mp3s is pretty standard practice

i mean, this same thing happened with sleigh bells or vampire wekeend or whatever and that's just how the machine goes -- the only difference is that RCA didn't go and give sleigh bells a three million dollar advance.

the '2 mp3s' thing feels TOTALLY different in a rap context not just because of major label money but because most rappers have to drop like 80 songs a year to have any presence at all
