No way in hell.

Okay so here's a question -- my gf's iPad (first gen) is running iOS5 without a worry but she's noticed something with Photos that is leaving her a little frustrated: she'd like to prioritize her self-created folders for events and remove (hide/minimize/delete) those she doesn't need like 'last import' and 'saved photos.' I'm guessing you can't exactly do that in full but is there some way to do that in Photos for iPad or should she go for another photo app entirely?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 14 November 2011 20:36 (twelve years ago) link

I think you can choose which folders to sink going through the Photos tab of iTunes's iPad section (like when you plug it in). Don't know if this can be done through iCloud.

Looks like a plastic HP that rips off a fair portion of the MBP styling and has a bad power button

mh, Wednesday, 16 November 2011 15:29 (twelve years ago) link

Oh, that's the power button? I thought someone left a quarter on it.

ice cr?m, Thursday, 17 November 2011 05:34 (twelve years ago) link

you attach a little crank to that thing and then turn it around a hundred times and your laptop turns on -- it's a neat little security feature imo

I know Apple gets praised for hardware design, but when seeing how incredibly... wrong.. some other designs are it's worth giving them some credit. I was in a conference room last week next to a guy with a HP laptop that had what looked like screws sticking out of the top of the screen. It was part of the latching mechanism and there were corresponding holes in the base below the trackpad. I don't know how you get to the part of the design process where having things sticking nearly a quarter inch out of the top of the laptop above your screen seems like a good idea.

having a notification center + imessage on my mac just makes me thing im going to get about a million redundant alerts on both my phone and computer

max, Thursday, 16 February 2012 13:53 (twelve years ago) link

I don't really need to merge IM services, but getting iMessages on the desktop could be useful. I skipped Snow Leopard anyway...

Nhex, Thursday, 16 February 2012 14:00 (twelve years ago) link

I probably won't update; I really don't want my computer acting more and more like my phone.

Love how the Notification Center simply, beautifully uses the dark linen texture.

have you been bodysnatched by gruber or

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 16 February 2012 14:17 (twelve years ago) link

Hahah.

More immediately interested in the run-up to Ivy Bridge chips from Intel later in the year as well as the wider use of Thunderbolt -- I'm pretty well due to get a new Mac this fall. (Still going desktop as well; if I ever do get a laptop it'll just be an iPad -- and I am thinking about the iPad 3...)

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 16 February 2012 15:48 (twelve years ago) link

still havent upgraded to lion, kinda scared for some reason

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Thursday, 16 February 2012 15:49 (twelve years ago) link

idk why people are all up in arms about Lion upgrading. I find it to be a pretty great thing

valleys of your mind (mh), Thursday, 16 February 2012 15:52 (twelve years ago) link

im in the middle of a big project and im superstitious about upgrading before its done i guess

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Thursday, 16 February 2012 15:53 (twelve years ago) link

Lion's always worked just fine for me.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 16 February 2012 15:56 (twelve years ago) link

Mission Control alone is worth $30.

Very curious about this March announcement coming up. iPad 3 seems to be pretty likely, but I'm very curious about the rumors that the MacBook Air/MacBook Pro lines being merged. A 15" MBA would be pretty fantastic for me

trying out the imessage beta, feels really confusing

max, Friday, 17 February 2012 00:42 (twelve years ago) link

paranoid that im missing messages, dont get it at all

max, Friday, 17 February 2012 00:42 (twelve years ago) link

hoping for a new iMac redesign to push me into replacing my current one

Nhex, Friday, 17 February 2012 00:43 (twelve years ago) link

super confusing, the caller ID is a fucking mess, some outgoing messages randomly don't sync to other devices, high risk of coming back to your mac hours later to see what the other person thought was a text you would get on your phone. whole thing is a total shitshow

stet, Friday, 17 February 2012 00:43 (twelve years ago) link

I sent a message to my iPad from my mbp & it was received about 10 seconds later; fwiw I don't usually get texts on my iPad so I can't say if I'm missing messages or not

Euler, Friday, 17 February 2012 00:45 (twelve years ago) link

id be a lot less paranoid if imessage wasnt also effectively an SMS replacement for me. i dont mind missing IMs but i need texts!

max, Friday, 17 February 2012 00:47 (twelve years ago) link

is it possible to uninstall it

max, Friday, 17 February 2012 00:51 (twelve years ago) link

doesn't look like it

stet, Friday, 17 February 2012 00:51 (twelve years ago) link

Drag app to trash?

tinker tailor soldier sb (silby), Friday, 17 February 2012 00:52 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, but then if you had iMessage still active on the Mac and turned off on your iPhone, when people using it on their iPhones tried to text you, their text would go to the Mac and you'd never know about it

stet, Friday, 17 February 2012 00:55 (twelve years ago) link

see the tortured sentences they have reduced us to

stet, Friday, 17 February 2012 00:55 (twelve years ago) link

theres an uninstall option under the imessages menu thank god

max, Friday, 17 February 2012 00:56 (twelve years ago) link

lol just coming to post that

stet, Friday, 17 February 2012 00:56 (twelve years ago) link

isn't the whole point of icloud etc. that everything gets pushed everywhere? like incoming iMessages should push to both your phone and mac?
