THE ILM METAL POLL 2011 RESULTS (All lurkers/non metalheads welcome to join in!)

I bought In Solitude and Devil's Blood CDs at Reckless. Also picked up Ghost finally. I thought I'd get one at the show but they had sold out, but Reckless has 'em. My Uncle Acid CD finally arrived. I'm also really liking Altar Of Plagues and especially Thy Catafalque. How are their older albums?

Pitom album sounded immense on my headphones at 2am this morning whilst I was at work.

FnB All good choices! My Catalfaque cd came but as i had never heard of them until the votes came in for them i have no idea about their older stuff, i think Glenn says its good but Siegbran says they never used to be but hadnt heard the last few before this one(which he liked)

so fuck knows. I dont even have them on mp3.

Hey Kerr what albums from the countdown do you think will show up this week? I def think Yob and Uncle Acid have good shots...

uncle acid and maybe mastodon. those 2 have non-metal crossover potential i think.(did many metal thread regs vote? im guessing not enough) Dont think yob made it last time.

Their #21 had only 17 votes. Looks like there weren't as many participants as on the metal poll. We could have totally taken over that poll. So much power wasted. Instead of Graveyard, YOB and Devil's Blood it'll be Adele, Pistol Annies and fucking Bon Iver. Perhaps Uncle Acid has a chance.

the big poll got 120+ votes. Way more than us . Im guessing the top 10 albums will be getting a shitload with the 21-77 not so much,

i dont think hammers of misfortune will place now. Bit weird our #1 didn't make it tbh. Though it seems the metal that did make it was stuff that crossed over to non metal regs. They didn't vote in our poll (5 ppl judging by the comments on the thread)but voted for liturgy,wittr,mastodon. If everyone pulled together we could've got a dozen albums in easy. We obviously could never agree enough on anything to get a top 10.

I did my part, but I did fail to nominate Bruce Lamont, which was stupid. He didn't exactly take over the metal poll though, so who am I kidding?!

For some reason I flipped out talking about the manifesto when really I should have been busy plotting for next year. If Bon Iver wins or is even in the top 3 I will lose a little bit of faith in the people of ILM. Not much, but a little.

Well we're on the topic, Thanks for playing that Lamont last night. I don't enjoy Yakuza so I ignored his solo record, obviously to my detriment.

I have to warn you -- there is some singing that you might hate, and it's in the first song, which is interminable. If you can make it past the first 3 min of that without turning it off, it's pretty good the rest of the way.

He does have a really versatile voice though.

Also I voted for Pistol Annies; that was a really good record. It might sound like Dolly Parton's Greatest Hits but its soul lies somewhere between Cut and Nebraska...

oh yea also: I'm a bit skeptical that Bon Iver or Adele are going to show up today. I mean, anything's possible--and I don't remember if the #1 P4k album of the year has never not shown up--but I think Tuneyards and Yuck will probably be the worst of it. Adele had probably the biggest song of the year and she couldn't manage to make the tracks poll at all, so I wouldn't worry...

xp I still don't get that complaint! I think the whole old-timey sound gives the record a kind of edge, in ways that I am just not talented enough to delineate...

I didn't hear it as old-timey, which is probably on me not them. I dig old-timey.

Re: PA -- I love old timey, and I made the mistake of watching a Pistol Annies video instead of just listening to the song.

iirc it was really glossy. Not to my liking, and that impression made me not like the song because...I am a feeble minded monkey?

It's old-timey instrumentation with a bright. unnatural sheen (to my ears, at least). That's what I meant by production; I would bet they would be much more my thing live where the mix and mastering wouldn't have that gloss.

well I spent most of my year being forced to listen to country music radio, so the productions sounds really understated to me.

Like I'm listening to "Beige" right now, and it still sounds to me like a dolled up version of one of the slower cuts on American Beauty

I mean, this is all subjective opinion--I mean, I never expected it to not have pop sheen, so I wasn't disappointed...

Finally got around to listening to Corrupted - wasn't really bothered about the 1st 2 tracks, but the 3rd track is awesome.

Wittled down the Top 125 to about 20 I might like, of course by the time I've listened to those it'll be 2013 and Kerr will be moaning at me for not voting in Metal Poll 2012.
