I'm going to toss a vote to Brandy, because she's Brandy and she's amazing.

^^^^

that said, Monica is definitely more convincing, plus she's much cattier! "OH YEAH DEFINITELY, I KNOW HIS NAME!" "Maybe you misunderstood/Cuz I can't see how he could...." "FROM THE TRUTH YOU CAN'T ESCAPE/I CAN TELL THE REAL FROM THE FAKE!" RAWR.

Brandy kind of sounds resigned to the fact that the boy really is Monica's.

this is the greatest song ever obviously

there's a definite sneer in Brandy's voice when she sings "ain't that a shame" though

I think Brandy is truly in love with the boy but Monica is just wanting to have him

boxedjoy, Sunday, 5 February 2012 21:07 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah definitely, Monica wants him just because she CAN have him/to spite Brandy, whereas Brandy is really in love with him.

Brandy is far too polite.

The house edit wasn't this, was it?

It's just the spoken lines from the start used in this so I doubt it, plus I think this is kinda horrible and misses the point.

Brandy had a pointy face, drawing a blank on Monica.

haha yeah i def prefer brandy's career - i don't think voting here is a qualitative thing, they just bring different things to the song and monica's is the one that actually gets the boy

I'm pretty sure the version I heard out was the UK garage mix (for reference it was played by Will Saul).

In any case, I took matters into my own hands and made my own slo-mo house remix, which you can... *ahem* listen to here (it doesn't count as "shameless" if I started the thread).

Also, I wonder if Monica's cattiness might be a kind of defensive posturing/acting out of a possible lack of assurance?
