Just listened to it for the first time. Loved it. And this thread actually convinced me to buy the album, which I haven't done in yonks. My Girls is my jam. The cd cover doesn't move though. ;_;

OK waht! Does the vinyl sleeve move? This is important information for my buying decision!

― britisher ringpulls (a passing spacecadet), Monday, January 12, 2009 11:05 AM (4 hours ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink

well, the cover doesn't move, it's an optical illusion (I haven't read the previous posts so I don't if that's what you're talking about, though...).

― AleXTC, Monday, January 12, 2009 11:13 AM (4 hours ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink

ok, sorry, it doesn't appear to be moving when i look at the optical illusion.

it does on screen but not the physical object. as far as i can tell.

I haven't seen the physical object yet.
but this picture must NOT be watched when hungover !

eurgh this thing is making me sick. I hadnt noticed this before. So what - the trick works in the digi-world but not on the physical copies??

― baaderonixx, Monday, January 12, 2009 11:30 AM (4 hours ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink

Does the image appear to move if you take the inlay out of the case? (I mean, apart from moving, errr, out of the case...)

― britisher ringpulls (a passing spacecadet), Monday, January 12, 2009 11:30 AM (4 hours ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink

apparently, it doesn't move or not as much on the physical object as on screen.
weird.

― AleXTC, Monday, January 12, 2009 11:32 AM (4 hours ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink

it's not a traditional cd case, it's just a card thing with a little folding thing inside with the cd and inlay and stuff inside. presumably done so to give the full effect of the illusion but it just doesn't work. still looks cool though.

Agree that it's a great cover. I guess some people may be disappointed by the music though. I don't think U2 are ready to make anymore "artistic" and experimental albums by now. That was the 90s and that phase is left behind.

Of the 190 albums that got at least one vote, 79 of them got only one vote. 38 more got only 2 votes, and 20 more got only 3.

15 of the 30 voters filled up all 25 slots, 15 didn't. There were 8 voters who didn't have anything for which they were the only voter. 6 more voters had only 1 album nobody else voted for, and 8 more had only 2. At the other extreme, one voter (i.e. Xhuxk) had 15 of 25 albums that nobody else mentioned, and another voter had 13.

so i really dug their demo CD in 2006 and kind of skipped their album in 2008 due to hype backlash i guess... then after hearing everyone say their performance on SNL was subpar i had to go download the episode myself and see.

turns out it kind of blew me away and i am now digging their LP/EP. i'm liking it even more than the demo and really getting a Morricone vibe on a lot of songs. sticking it on my 'pod next time i do a stagecoach holdup.
