The singer with the combover looked like she was performing for a crowd of preteens. TERRIFYING grin.

Feel like she was overcompensating for fear of looking like a luded-up wreck a la Lana del Rey.

Karmin was terrifying. Liked the Dujardin bit and Killam's Mike Cera impression.

from Gawker:

What's wrong with her face?
Experts tell me that Heidemann suffers from a tragic syndrome known as "theater kid" that manifests itself as extreme and frequent facial and gestural tics. There is no known cure. (See also: Anne Hathaway, Katy Perry, Neil Patrick Harris.)

Killam's Michael Cera was good.

^should be a recurring character

johnny crunch, Sunday, 12 February 2012 14:33 (twelve years ago) link

agree, but i was distracted by one thing in that sketch. do people consider the olson twins quirky?

mizzell, Sunday, 12 February 2012 15:07 (twelve years ago) link

I thought they were just sort of louche and druggy, but not quirky.

Nicole, Sunday, 12 February 2012 15:14 (twelve years ago) link

No tears shed for Paul? No more foppish boyfriend. RIP.

dan selzer, Sunday, 12 February 2012 22:16 (twelve years ago) link

the quirky girl sketch slayed

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Sunday, 12 February 2012 22:36 (twelve years ago) link

the crabs sketch was dumb and didn't really go anywhere but I have to admit that the repetition of the word "crabs" got me loling eventually

encarta it (Gukbe), Sunday, 12 February 2012 22:40 (twelve years ago) link

xp It totally did. After Elliott's Zooey impression a few weeks ago, I was really hoping she'd expand on it for this episode.

Also, "Yarn."

Let A Man Come In And Do The Cop Porn (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Sunday, 12 February 2012 22:42 (twelve years ago) link

I appreciated that Zooey as a host was willing to dive totally into the sketches; she seemed just as comfortable and engaged as the regular cast, which happens so rarely nowadays that it's really noticeable when someone who can do sketch comedy is on the show (and one reason why I always enjoy shows with former cast members so much)

the quirky girl sketch slayed

Yeah, this was the highlight of the show, IMO.

I kind of liked the crabs sketch but mostly for the fact that it seemed to take place in 1980s Dallas or Phoenix.

jaymc, Monday, 13 February 2012 00:37 (twelve years ago) link

The rest of the superbowl sketch was pretty lame, but "How am I going to explain to my children what happened to the other fingers." &c. was a pretty undeniable set of jokes.

Cage showing up for a bit was fun too.

s.clover, Monday, 13 February 2012 01:34 (twelve years ago) link

I was p much dying at cage v cage start to fnish

oneohtrix and park (m bison), Monday, 13 February 2012 02:09 (twelve years ago) link

that's high praise.

mizzell, Monday, 13 February 2012 14:27 (twelve years ago) link

More actual chuckles for me this week than any episode in recent memory: big ones for Bein' Quirky, Cage, and the Verizon ad, but even a few for crabs, Technology Hump (wasn't aware they had done this one before) and Victorian ladies.

Biggest lol actually came from Weekend Update's "Red Lobster, where people are sentenced to dinner," cuz I hate that place.

I didn't even hate Karmin, which probably puts me in a distinct minority.

I don't know what exactly set Kristen and Maya (and Bill) off on Super $$$ Showcase, but I couldn't stop laughing either.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 19 February 2012 06:09 (twelve years ago) link

that was some quality breaking.

best episode of the season i think.

encarta it (Gukbe), Sunday, 19 February 2012 06:10 (twelve years ago) link

I don't know if I've ever seen Kristen Wiig break on SNL before.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 19 February 2012 06:11 (twelve years ago) link

best episode of the season i think.

Definitely. Even The Obama Show worked.

Let A Man Come In And Do The Cop Porn (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Sunday, 19 February 2012 06:23 (twelve years ago) link

Seriously. Some people are alllllways gonna complain, but this is going down in history as one of the classic SNL casts. And this season in particular has been pretty damn strong.

Also: I propose, if 'What Up With That?' is ever retired, that SNL simply set a minute or two aside each week to showcase Jason Sudeikis dancing as his 'What Up With That?' character. It's one of those comedic miracles that somehow never becomes less funny with repetition.

SNEEZED GOING DOWN STEPS, PAIN WHEN PUTTING SOCKS ON (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 19 February 2012 06:31 (twelve years ago) link

Kate Upton's face whenever Sudeikis lept onto the stage was great.

encarta it (Gukbe), Sunday, 19 February 2012 06:32 (twelve years ago) link

I totally don't get "What Up With That?"

plee help i am lookin for (crüt), Sunday, 19 February 2012 06:34 (twelve years ago) link

There ain't much to get. It's pretty much just a chance for people to act all stoopid.

I don't know what the fuck Abby Elliott was doing in that skit, but it was brilliant.

encarta it (Gukbe), Sunday, 19 February 2012 07:16 (twelve years ago) link

They should offer JT a featured player contract and call it a day.
