Goof for Diamanda G.

Am'a, why "aggggggggggggh"?

garbage corn fan (Je55e), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 19:16 (twelve years ago) link

I too liked Diamanda's statement.

agggggh was for libertarians

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 19:18 (twelve years ago) link

I know I personally collected a good half-dozen bribes and kickbacks last year

long duk dan (dan m), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 21:29 (twelve years ago) link

The state of Illinois needs to step up it's game. I hate when New York beats us at anything.

Just discovered that the Fugazi/Shellac/the Ex show that I attended a few years before moving to Chicago is now available from Dischord

http://www.dischord.com/fugazi_live_series/chicago-il-usa-62301

Pretty excited about this tbh.

long duk dan (dan m), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 22:15 (twelve years ago) link

the band i've been playing in (@dvance b@se) has an album coming out may 1 on the label run by mark kozelek (red house painters, sun kil moon). i'm on four of the songs, playing autoharp on three and omnichord on one. you can read about it here: http://www.caldoverderecords.com/

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 16 February 2012 03:27 (twelve years ago) link

Awesome! Are you excited?

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 16 February 2012 03:46 (twelve years ago) link

Hey, cool!

carl agatha, Thursday, 16 February 2012 03:52 (twelve years ago) link

Nice!

‘Neuroscience’ and ‘near death’ pepper (Eazy), Thursday, 16 February 2012 03:55 (twelve years ago) link

i don't feel a lot of ownership about it since i'm only a few songs and basically just strum-a-strum an autoharp, but it's cool to be on an album that some people might hear, and owen's going to put out the vinyl on his own so i'll be on an actual LP record for the first time.

we're playing at the burlington in logan square on monday night. i know it's a monday but it's also president's day so maybe some of you have the day off. i know i do.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 16 February 2012 15:18 (twelve years ago) link

i don't know why you are minimizing your participation -- if i danced around with bells on my feet on any recorded thing i would be stupid excited about it!
i don't have no stinking president's day off what kind of world is this?!

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 16 February 2012 15:21 (twelve years ago) link

I want to find a way to get you into the recording studio with bells on your feed.

‘Neuroscience’ and ‘near death’ pepper (Eazy), Thursday, 16 February 2012 15:37 (twelve years ago) link

er, feet

let's send this joke out to pasture?

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 16 February 2012 15:47 (twelve years ago) link

that's cool nick.

i've never heard sun kil moon or red house painters, but i do like the retribution gospel choir record they put out.

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Thursday, 16 February 2012 15:48 (twelve years ago) link

it's funny, one of my friends was just playing me a song by c@siot0ne, and i was like 'oh yeah i think that guy is crashing at my place in a couple weeks'

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Thursday, 16 February 2012 15:49 (twelve years ago) link

i guess it wasn't that funny

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Thursday, 16 February 2012 15:50 (twelve years ago) link

wtg nick! a friend of mine was just asking me about your show at the burlington the other day.

long duk dan (dan m), Thursday, 16 February 2012 15:52 (twelve years ago) link

red house painters reminds me of a very certain time in my life, and this song always makes me weepy for some chemical/chord-related reason

i am also excited to be on wax this year. need to get my turntable fixed, there's something weird going on with the tonearm (maybe the weight?) where it skips on the first couple songs on a record but is fine near the end of a side.

epic metafilter post about one of my Chicago faves, the Viceroy Hotel:

http://www.metafilter.com/112760/One-Chicago-hotels-story

long duk dan (dan m), Thursday, 16 February 2012 16:04 (twelve years ago) link

we hadn't been using our turntable because the needle broke and evie kept wanting to play with it, but then sarah moved our stereo on top of our dresser and bought a new needle so we could listen to records again. but now our needle is broke again. and they are kind of expensive. so now we can't listen to records again. lame.

i've never listened to RHP or SKM.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 16 February 2012 16:08 (twelve years ago) link

it's pretty sad, not sure if you would like it unless you are seriously in the mood for langorous (but not indulgent or histrionic imo) sadness

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 16 February 2012 16:21 (twelve years ago) link

Oh cool, Dan! I drove by the Viceroy a few weeks ago and I wanted to stop and take some pictures. The "FREE ADULT MOVIES" (paraphrased?) sign was awesome. I will spend some time on that thread at lunch.

garbage corn fan (Je55e), Thursday, 16 February 2012 16:38 (twelve years ago) link

Ah - that Fugazi show was awesome, I'll have to look through my shoebox of minidiscs, but I taped the Shellac and Ex sets as well ... I have a nice recording of the Kozalek show if anyone wants it (don't tell Mark) from Lincoln Hall this past summer (god bless him, he didn't want to turn on that A/C and it was a million degrees in there ...

BlackIronPrison, Thursday, 16 February 2012 16:45 (twelve years ago) link

Why wouldn't he have wanted to turn on the AC? Does he hate the people who came to the show?

carl agatha, Thursday, 16 February 2012 16:50 (twelve years ago) link

some singers like it to be hot and humid, think it helps open up the vocal cords or something? OTOH i know some singers like things really cold.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:03 (twelve years ago) link

A/C makes lots of noise when you're doing hushed stuff.

‘Neuroscience’ and ‘near death’ pepper (Eazy), Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:04 (twelve years ago) link

I prefer the goldilocks zone when I sing.

Jeff, Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:05 (twelve years ago) link

It's not like Lincoln Hall has a 20 year old window unit for its A/C! I would imagine that they might have even considered how much noise the vents made in the room.

garbage corn fan (Je55e), Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:07 (twelve years ago) link

That reminds me of when "carl," Jeff, and I went to see TV on the Radio at a tiny record store in G'boro, NC. Their manger or whatever asked the guy working at the store to turn off the track lighting. It wasn't possible to turn off those lights w/out turning other, necessary lights, so he had them take down the offending fixtures.

He said the band needed them taken down b/c their black skin would absorb the light and make them uncomfortable.

...

garbage corn fan (Je55e), Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:12 (twelve years ago) link

lol

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:13 (twelve years ago) link

ha that's pretty awesome

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:14 (twelve years ago) link

You all can probably guess my opinion of performers who won't turn on the AC in a venue in the summer but in case you can't: they are worse than Pol Pot.

carl agatha, Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:18 (twelve years ago) link

ditto

garbage corn fan (Je55e), Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:18 (twelve years ago) link

It was a white guy in the band who asked about the lights.

carl agatha, Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:19 (twelve years ago) link

Worse than Pol Pot and Gaydolf Shitler combined.

xp - oh. not sure how that affects my opinion of his request.

garbage corn fan (Je55e), Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:19 (twelve years ago) link

Those performers can hook up with the owners of Great Lakes Pizza and move to the moon.

carl agatha, Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:20 (twelve years ago) link

What did GLP do?

garbage corn fan (Je55e), Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:21 (twelve years ago) link

I wish I had more opportunities to say "Gaydolf Shitler."

garbage corn fan (Je55e), Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:21 (twelve years ago) link

(no AC performers, not TV on the Radio, whom I love and would let sleep in our spare room.)

xp GLP is all surly and self important and hostile to custard because their pizza is soooooo great.

carl agatha, Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:22 (twelve years ago) link

I wish I had more opportunities to say "Gaydolf Shitler."

I'll still pay for that tattoo.

carl agatha, Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:22 (twelve years ago) link

Get "Gaydolph Shittler" in a banner under your little fuckmouse tattoo.

carl agatha, Thursday, 16 February 2012 17:23 (twelve years ago) link

what if track lighting was all just a massive conspiracy by THE MAN to make black people uncomfortable?
