i'm on this committee for the sp3cial l1braries ass0ciation illinois chapter and this morning i was supposed to call in for a practice webinar but didn't notice that the email said 11 a.m. EST not CST so i missed the call and apparently the woman who was head of the committee quit. hopefully not just due to me missing the call. anyways that should make things interesting.

I'm excited that I'll be a fellow Illinoisan starting this summer! I got the job in C-U so I'll be down in the prairie rather than up in the city for the most part, but we'll be up in the city a whole bunch, so perhaps I'll see what you guys are up to once in a while.

congratulations euler! can you say what you'll be doing? are you at the university?

yeah I'll be a new faculty member at the university. It's a cool town! we were there last month doing some initial looking for houses, schools, etc. It's one of those places where everyone's like, oh, you should meet so and so, they're really interesting, won a Pulitzer Prize a couple of years ago; and so on. It'll be nice to go to Chicago too, though C-U is pretty self-sufficient with e.g. food & culture compared with the Big 12 college town I presently live in.

plus I start with tenure so we'll be able to buy a pretty nice place I think. I dunno, it seems like the kinda place I could spend my career at? looking to settle down! I've never said that before.

I am actually sufficiently cynical about municipal/state politics that nothing in that Reader article upset me, because I pretty much already knew that's how it was going to go down. That makes me a little sad.

i liked it because i generally know that everything is corrupt but i don't really know exactly how so i felt like it did a good job of laying out all the questionable factors
