I read the New Yorker story and I didn't think it was clear they hounded him into anything! If anything, there is plenty of evidence that Ravi was a sophomoric jerk and tried to cover his tracks, but most definitely a near absence of how that affected Clementi.

The real issue to me is the commenters who seem to think that living in a dorm room means you have no expectation of privacy! These dudes are like the anti-civil rights brigade

I am sure Ravi should be tried for this; the notion of sentence should only be considered if the verdict comes in and he's found guilty.

The charges against Ravi have nothing to do with the suicide, iirc. Which is why his lawyers can't get access to the presumed suicide note through discovery.
