Musical snobs... always seem to love Dylan, Cohen, Velvets, Beach Boys and some Beatles.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Friday, 31 January 2003 18:47 (twenty-one years ago) link

After having listened to two albums and a side-project (beans's new album) I've come to the conclusion that for all their boasting about being a hyper-developed form of hiphop, they are in fact a bunch of talentless no-hopers trying to appeal to NME-reading chin scratchers with badly produced and badly rapped travesties containing long words in overlong sentences to make themselves look intelligent. Listen to Beans's album - the beats aren't minimalist THEY'RE SHIT. The raps make no sense at all and are so abstract it gets boring. cloudDEAD suffer from this too by rapping about falling bicycles and saying things like "Space is potent". Hmm... Deep, very deep. But at least clouDEAD sometimes break through with an interesting musical arrangement. The few times APC manage to do this (search: "9.99"), it does work and it makes you wonder why all their songs cant be like that.

Obviously I'm playing devil's advocate here. I by no means hate APC, and i do like to listen to them every so often, but really, i don't understand the hype.

APC - genius or overrated? Discuss

Michael, click in the entry box then press ctrl & V together. If you have a Mac, fuck knows what you do, bloody overpriced contrarian etch-a-sketches.

My clipboard is empty. Had I copy and pasted instead of clicking a link on IRC earlier, you would have been taken away to a site that revels in the majesty that is UK 2nd division pop-punk bands of the early nineties (Family Cat, 1000 Yard Stare, Midway Still, Bennet etc.).

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 31 January 2003 19:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

If you have a Mac do Apple Key & V together instead.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 31 January 2003 19:14 (twenty-one years ago) link

It's weird to think of someone using a computer but not knowing what the clipboard is. I copy, cut and paste all the time, for everything.

And it drives me mad when I switch between a Mac and a PC and my finger used the wrong key and I don't notice till it comes to pasting.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 31 January 2003 19:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

on a PC you the Ctrl key is so g@d#m@@! far away from everything else that you have to use your PINKY and stretch it a bit sideways actually, just in order to hit 'V' - thank you Mark and N. you have just "pushed my buttons"

Several years ago, we had an intern who was none too swift. One day she was typing and turned to a secretary and said, "I'm almost out of typing paper. What do I do?" "Just use copier machine paper," the secretary told her. With that, the intern took her last remaining blank piece of paper, put it on the photocopier and proceeded to make five "blank" copies.

"In response to this Barbelith thread: my position is not that manufactured / corporate pop is bad, but that Tatu are a bad example of it; that being manufactured is not bad (I've never used the term pejoratively, only descriptively), but that being badly manufactured is; that they seem to have been designed to get noticed, and that far less attention has been paid to making them any good - and whether this is the case is irrelevant, my criticism is that it feels to me like this is the case; that focus on image is not bad, but a deficient, insufficient image is; that there are definite flaws and inconsistencies in what I've said about them; and that, when it comes down to it, I just don't find their music interesting (or catchy, or memorable), and, while my reasoning may be wrong, disliking them is not."

I changed this because they were told a story about Sally or John. It's better to say that rather than 'asked to imagine' - I don't think that the researchers said anything like 'please imagine a little boy called John'. John was the main character in a story.
