Well, maybe not WOW, but it seems like a strange place for a donut shop, especially since Corner Bakery has donut-like products.

garbage corn fan (Je55e), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 20:37 (twelve years ago) link

Is it donut switching if a person starts going to the donut shop instead of Corner Bakery?

dan m, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 20:38 (twelve years ago) link

Yes.

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 20:40 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah the thing about Medieval Times is that its really fucking far away from the city proper, so even if you do it its not like you'll be nearby other fun things to do afterwards or something. Unless y'know, wandering around a horrible mall is your idea of fun.

Also in news of things opening and closing: The extraneous Sally Beauty Supply - 2 blocks from the new one by my home - is closing finally. Jeff, you should be pleased.

Here's your election-time reminder to Vote for Judges! These are the jerks that have the most potential to personally ruin the lives of you and your loved ones, so it's important to have competent, reasonable people on the bench. http://voteforjudges.org/

carl agatha, Thursday, 8 March 2012 15:37 (twelve years ago) link

And you can get your sample ballot here so you can research your water reclamation commissioner vote and then write it down to take into the booth with you - http://chicagoelections.com/voterinfo.php

carl agatha, Thursday, 8 March 2012 15:40 (twelve years ago) link

thanks for the links, I just spent like 20 minutes noting down which judges to vote for. I hope I don't forget my notes like I did last time. though I have a smartphone now.

If you want more detail on why somebody isn't qualified, this is pretty good - http://voteforjudges.org/judge_evaluations_feb2012.pdf

There are elections in my subcircuit where nobody stands out (or after eliminating a couple that are considered NQ/NR by almost everybody, nobody else stands out) so it's interesting to see what the objections were. Like it's worth noting that Trib endorsed candidate St@nl3y H1ll was held in contempt for professional misconduct in 1994 based on a finding that he "acted at trial with the specific intent to prejudice a fair and impartial proceeding by refusing to abide by the rulings of the court." Since there's another candidate found to be qualified, I'll pick her (plus the Trib endorsed GWB for his second term so I don't trust their endorsements too much).

carl agatha, Thursday, 8 March 2012 16:15 (twelve years ago) link

god i remember when the trib endorsed GWB for '04. i was so mad.

horseshoe, Thursday, 8 March 2012 16:27 (twelve years ago) link

the other night i was up at 4 a.m trying to get evie back asleep and i had a flash memory of a bunch of us in john's old apartment, using a karaoke website and bellowing "possum kingdom"

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 8 March 2012 17:09 (twelve years ago) link

Ha. I remember that. Not "Possum Kingdom" specifically but that night.

Cuba Pudding, Jr. (jaymc), Thursday, 8 March 2012 17:11 (twelve years ago) link

Never forget Possum Kingdom.

Hey, how was Aida?

"marvellously inoffensive" (Eazy), Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:05 (twelve years ago) link

Amazing. Hui He is an incredible soprano, maybe the best I've seen. I don't think I've ever reacted as strongly and emotionally to a performance as I did to hers. Visually, it was spectacular. I mean, Aida is written to be a spectacle but it's one thing to say that and another thing to be in the room with it. Verdi is my homeboy anyway, and Aida is totally a greatest hit, but dang, seeing it really hammers home that sometimes things are favorites because they are just that good.

carl agatha, Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:30 (twelve years ago) link

Nice nice nice.

"marvellously inoffensive" (Eazy), Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:32 (twelve years ago) link

Whoa. Donating bone marrow is no joke. High five, soccer fan!

It's interesting that you have a waiting period to find out whether the treatment was successful.

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Friday, 9 March 2012 19:02 (twelve years ago) link

why does stuff like this bother me so much?

"Being Flynn" is based on author-poet Nick Flynn's searing memoir, with a largely unprintable title. (http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/movies/sc-mov-0306-being-flynn-20120309-24,0,6827022.story)

there is literally one unprintable word in the book's title ("another bullshit night in suck city"

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 9 March 2012 19:26 (twelve years ago) link

unprintable!
unfathomable!

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Friday, 9 March 2012 19:27 (twelve years ago) link

If you want to be really pedantic about it, the entire title is printable; the Tribune just chooses not to.

Daylight savings time starts this Sunday. Glad I don't live in one of those states that doesn't observe it. I wish it was DST all year long.

Dear Dan,

NP

Sincerely,

Jesse Je55e J3ss3 Martha

Michigan Ave. is a MADHOUSE. Besides the pedestrian-choked sidewalks, there were a bunch of ambulances and a minivan w/ loudspeakers on the outside that kept making the rounds blaring what was presumably apocalyptic messages in what was presumably Korean, based on the writing on the outside in English and Korean.

It sounded like Blade Runner out there.

Courtney and I saw Silent House and it was tense and scary and quite a bit better than expected. And it was interesting but I don't want to say more b/c spoilers. Jenny, I think you will like it.

And it stars Elizabeth Olsen, which is nice. I like looking at her.

So in the light of day, the confederate flag revealed itself to have a wolf on it. Jeff thought it might be a Chicago Wolves banner but I just completed some surveillance/research and it is, in fact, a flag version of this:
