I can only afford pants w/ one pocket because apple products cost so much

iatee, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:21 (twelve years ago) link

yes and anyway how can you fit an iphone and keys in skintight purple jeans and why aren't your keys on a carabiner?

the late great, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:21 (twelve years ago) link

keys go on your carabiner, iphone goes in your bike messenger bag or your hoodie pockets

the late great, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:22 (twelve years ago) link

ehh iPhone screens are made of glass, even if they get scratched (mine cretainly has a few) you can't notice them when the device is on (same goes for dirt inside the screen etc.)

flagp∞st (dayo), Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:22 (twelve years ago) link

my iPhone goes into my cargo shorts

flagp∞st (dayo), Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:23 (twelve years ago) link

I totally noticed the scratches and they bothered me

iatee, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:23 (twelve years ago) link

I use a case that's pretty minimal on my iPhone because I'm good at dropping things and hits to the corners seem to be a risk. Never had a screen protector on anything, though.

valleys of your mind (mh), Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:23 (twelve years ago) link

so I got an iphone condom

iatee, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:23 (twelve years ago) link

the scratches on your screen protector? xp

flagp∞st (dayo), Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:23 (twelve years ago) link

I have a screen protector on my phone because I am somewhat careless and I hate scratches and I like to be able to sell it in perfect condition. Probably these all apply a lot less to an ipad, though (obv the selling it in particular).

toby, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:24 (twelve years ago) link

no on the actual screen xp

I haven't got an ipad screen protector tho, but my ipad very rarely is in my pants pocket

iatee, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:24 (twelve years ago) link

tried multiple cases for my iphone, they all sucked. i'd prob get one of those smart covers for ipad though, if i had one.

smash williams, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:25 (twelve years ago) link

see idg the idea of protecting something so that it'll have higher resale value - your iProduct is gonna be worth less by the time the next one comes out - is a $30 case going to increase your resale value by $30 when it comes time to resell?

flagp∞st (dayo), Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:26 (twelve years ago) link

my case was like $5 and my screen protector was like $!

iatee, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:27 (twelve years ago) link

1

iatee, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:27 (twelve years ago) link

right, case and screen protector cost very little, and I found that it did make quite a difference what I could sell them for (having one scratched and one not - the difference in selling price was at least $50 iirc).

toby, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:28 (twelve years ago) link

you got them in chinatown I bet! xp

it also doesn't make sense to me to buy a nice phone with a nice display only to put a really crappy screen protector on it, it's like smearing vaseline on your computer screen

flagp∞st (dayo), Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:30 (twelve years ago) link

i have a rubberized iphone protector because it was designed by an artist i like but it makes it a pain the ass to get it out of jean poockets

screen protectors are the plasticky stick-on things? i tried it once, bubbles drove me nuts

the late great, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:33 (twelve years ago) link

I bought my (current-gen) iPod touch used, and the original owner put a screen protector on it, which I left on. It actually is barely noticeable, except at some edges where it doesn't stick well. Should I peel it off? Is the Gorilla Glass really unlikely to get scratched from normal use? I carry it around in my pocket (put my keys in the other pocket) without a case.

everything else is secondary (Lee626), Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:38 (twelve years ago) link

idg why they make lovely things that are so fragile they need the kind of protection which makes them less lovely.

jed_, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:40 (twelve years ago) link

little chinatown-esque shop in sunnyside

iatee, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:42 (twelve years ago) link

my only major problem i have with with my new iphone is that you get notification noises complete with vibrate, from email, text or whatever, while you are on a call. that's just crazy.

jed_, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:44 (twelve years ago) link

I keep mine in my pocket w/my keys, and the screen has not a mark on it. The back is all scratched up, but.

stet, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:45 (twelve years ago) link

the nice screen protectors are made by a japanese company and cost like $15 for 2

flagp∞st (dayo), Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:46 (twelve years ago) link

tbf you can mistreat the hell out of an iphone as long as you're not dropping it on a really hard surface

my old nokia phone had a case that was dented and scratched to shit but those things are pretty unkillable

valleys of your mind (mh), Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:47 (twelve years ago) link

do they look clear and prevent scratches cause that is what mine does

iatee, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:47 (twelve years ago) link

Doesn't 3m make screen protectors that are super space-age or something? idk

valleys of your mind (mh), Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:47 (twelve years ago) link

I keep phones forever so I try to protect them from my own incompetence. A decent case and screen protector were a must for me.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:48 (twelve years ago) link

shitty iphone screen protectors don't really look clear though, they look cloudy (esp the matte ones)

flagp∞st (dayo), Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:48 (twelve years ago) link

prob the worst ones are the zagg invisible shield ones, so awful

flagp∞st (dayo), Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:49 (twelve years ago) link

cloudiness > scratches

iatee, Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:50 (twelve years ago) link

NO.

smudges, bro

also I used to have a matte thing for my iPhone that I liked because with the case it made the whole thing look like a featureless brick (<---joke here)

catbus otm (gbx), Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:50 (twelve years ago) link

also I drop my phones all day long and have ne'er gotte a scratch

(autocomplete did that ne'er right there)

catbus otm (gbx), Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:51 (twelve years ago) link

screen protectors get smudged too!

I have dropped my iPhone like 50 times and it's still okay (plastic back is cracked tho)

flagp∞st (dayo), Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:51 (twelve years ago) link

you guys it's a phone, not a basketball

Vaseline MEN AMAZING JOURNEY (DJP), Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:54 (twelve years ago) link

there's an app for that

dayo MY screen protector never ever smudged so deal with it~~

catbus otm (gbx), Thursday, 8 March 2012 18:56 (twelve years ago) link

you can get perfectly fine, clear screen protectors for like $1 off ebay. don't fall for those overpriced shenanigans

Nhex, Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:17 (twelve years ago) link

It may if you can avoid visible dings/scratches, which will certainly drop the resale value. Nextworth is great for selling devices, if they are in good condition. I'm getting $292 for my iPad 2. Maybe could get more on ebay or something, but that's a hassle to deal with.

Jeff, Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:18 (twelve years ago) link

I use these on all my iDevices - http://www.powersupportusa.com/accessories/ipad-2/hd-anti-glare-film.html

Jeff, Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:19 (twelve years ago) link

I've got a keyboard case for my ipad, the targus versavu. just checked and they've got one for the new ipad as well.

things I love about it:

- sturdy, hardshell, protects screen and the device itself
- great for writing for long periods on the ipad
- easy to snap the ipad in/out of the holder
- ipad holder swivels so you can prop it in portrait or landscape
- only need to charge the keyboard every 3 months or so

(minor) con:

- bluetooth, so the keyboard goes to sleep after being idle for a while, which means you start typing and then have to wait for it to wake up and retype

You're all savages

valleys of your mind (mh), Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:27 (twelve years ago) link

I guess it adds some heft to the ipad but that doesn't bother me

diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:27 (twelve years ago) link

big talk from mr 1st gen ipad pfffft

xp

diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:28 (twelve years ago) link

yeah I have a keyboard case too, it's pretty dope

iatee, Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:29 (twelve years ago) link

didn't u hear I have no ipad right now and will have a 3rd gen one in eight days!

valleys of your mind (mh), Thursday, 8 March 2012 20:02 (twelve years ago) link

wait, you have NO ipad? I hope you at least have some leaves to wipe yr ass with

diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Thursday, 8 March 2012 20:04 (twelve years ago) link

I think I bragged on some thread about locking in a trade-in-for-credit price a few days ago. Hopefully it's still honored!

valleys of your mind (mh), Thursday, 8 March 2012 20:08 (twelve years ago) link

Guess what keeping it in a different pocket than your keys costs, nothing

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 8 March 2012 20:09 (twelve years ago) link

yeah but all my other pockets are full of diamond drill bits
