Hey, how was Aida?
― "marvellously inoffensive" (Eazy), Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:05 (twelve years ago) link
Amazing. Hui He is an incredible soprano, maybe the best I've seen. I don't think I've ever reacted as strongly and emotionally to a performance as I did to hers. Visually, it was spectacular. I mean, Aida is written to be a spectacle but it's one thing to say that and another thing to be in the room with it. Verdi is my homeboy anyway, and Aida is totally a greatest hit, but dang, seeing it really hammers home that sometimes things are favorites because they are just that good.

It's interesting that you have a waiting period to find out whether the treatment was successful.

why does stuff like this bother me so much?
"Being Flynn" is based on author-poet Nick Flynn's searing memoir, with a largely unprintable title. (http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/movies/sc-mov-0306-being-flynn-20120309-24,0,6827022.story)
there is literally one unprintable word in the book's title ("another bullshit night in suck city"

Dear Dan,
NP
Sincerely,
Jesse Je55e J3ss3 Martha
Michigan Ave. is a MADHOUSE. Besides the pedestrian-choked sidewalks, there were a bunch of ambulances and a minivan w/ loudspeakers on the outside that kept making the rounds blaring what was presumably apocalyptic messages in what was presumably Korean, based on the writing on the outside in English and Korean.
It sounded like Blade Runner out there.

So in the light of day, the confederate flag revealed itself to have a wolf on it. Jeff thought it might be a Chicago Wolves banner but I just completed some surveillance/research and it is, in fact, a flag version of this:

Know what's not neat? Finding out that these RSVPs often disappear so quickly that no one who reads the article/blog post/whatever could possibly have a chance of actually going to the event. I was looking forward to it and I had no chance ;_;

I flipped through The Chicagoan at the Art Institute a couple weeks ago, and yeah, it looks v. cool, but I can't justify the price tag. I have to say: I admire their journalistic purity or whatever is responsible for their unwillingness to accept ads, but if that's the difference between a $20 magazine and a $10 magazine, I'll take the ads, thanks. Maybe something less glossy, too? The Believer is ad-free and ~$10, iirc.
Apparently there will be a lengthy story on my company in the second issue of the magazine.
