I'll be there at ~7:30; probably Mrs. Johnson too.
I think I'm going to buy The Chicagoan for the library next time I see it.

Is there a The Chicagoan app?
― Jeff, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 19:30 (twelve years ago) link
Jeff. No. Not here.
I will be there. I don't know what time.

I saw an ad on the train for a bedbugs app. Talk about warning signs!
― Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 19:34 (twelve years ago) link
There will be, apparently:
The Chicagoan website will contain daily, literary and in-depth coverage of the people, places and events that define the city and region’s newscycle. All of this material will also be delivered to smart phones via our app.

Yeh IDK. I just remembered that one or the other of them had said "physical media forever" and it turned out that the BOTH thems had said it.

tank top, shorts. And uggs.

I dressed perfectly this morning... for this afternoon's temperatures. Then I nearly froze while waiting 15 minutes in the shade for a bus at 8 am. ;_;

I basically need a rucksack of wardrobe options with me at all times. It is the only way.
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 20:53 (twelve years ago) link
It would need socks, tights, snow boots, galoshes, flats, light scarf, medium scarf, light gloves, medium gloves, hat, umbrella, rain coat, puffy coat, medium coat, and a second pair of socks in case the first ones get wet.
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 20:55 (twelve years ago) link
I dressed right. Definitely still a jacket day. I'll continue to wear a jacket outside until may at least.

I wore a long sleeve shirt today b/c I wear don't change what I wear based on weather for the most part (except outerwear, of course). Wore my thin hoodie and an invisible nutsack of male privilege.

I grew irrationally envious of Jeff this morning when he dressed the way he always dresses, selected an appropriate weight jacket, and left without much fanfare. While I'm like "skirt? pants? tights? leggings? socks? long sleeves? short sleeves? cardigan? short-sleeved cardigan? light jacket? light scarf? put a hat in my purse? wear my purse as a hat?"

I am on the mend, but it's slow. I think it was food poisoning, since Kr and I were both struck within hours of each other on Monday night. No fun.
How did the pub quizzers do?

weird, my roommate had food poisoning on the same night. maybe you ate at the same place.

very tough pub quiz last night for our team "barry pepper's lonely farts club band" - we were in first place for almost the entire game, then fell to third in the very last round, but the first place team won by only one point and there were three teams (including us) tied for second place, so we ended up in third based only on the impossible tie-breaker question. if we had gotten even one more correct answer in the final round we would have come in first. but i was very impressed with our performance overall - a perfect round on "finish the lyrics" for "sunday bloody sunday," we got almost every question right in the pretty tough Scientology round (thanks to courtnoodle's expertise), got 6 bonus points in Chemical States for guessing the theme with only three answers, etc. it was really just General Knowledge that fucked us, including a stupid 8-point Simpsons question.
― congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 14 March 2012 14:14 (twelve years ago) link
I am guessing it was the whitefish we bought from Whole Foods.
a stupid 8-point Simpsons question.
This would've enraged me.
― Cuba Pudding, Jr. (jaymc), Wednesday, 14 March 2012 14:17 (twelve years ago) link
we even tried to answer it strategically. it was from the australia episode, what does bart have written on his butt when he moons the australians. since he was giving 2 points for each correct word, we guessed something like "america the down flag" or something like that, trying to even get one word correct by hedging our bets. but it was "don't tread on me." there was another simpsons question in the video games round (which i got) and the tiebreaker was also partially simpsons-based.

Interesting, but I seem to draw any conclusions b/c I find him distasteful....
While I was on the blog, I saw this
Eavesdropping Law Struck Down
We had a feeling this was headed this direction:
A Cook County judge today ruled the state’s controversial eavesdropping law unconstitutional. The law makes it a felony offense to make audio recordings of police officers without their consent even when they’re performing their public duties.Judge Stanley Sacks, who is assigned to the Criminal Courts Building, found the eavesdropping law unconstitutional because it potentially criminalizes “wholly innocent conduct.”
So as citizens, we can record just about anything now? Turnabout is fair play we've heard.

No, we use stupid AT&T.
I need some new podcasts to listen to, preferably ones that tell stories. I like TAL, natch, and Radiolab and I listen to an old time radio spooky story podcast, but is there anything else out there that's narrative focused? I used to listen to a couple of episodic story podcasts, the names of which are escaping me. One was kind of bad and then got so horrible I couldn't even cope with it anymore, and the others just... stopped updating mid-story.
(I'm good on informational podcasts, and I hate podcasts that are people just riffing for 30 minutes, or people interviewing famous people (unless it happens to be a really, really good interview of someone I really, really like).)

I am in love with the Frontline podcast because it's the same as their tv docs, only without images. The one about death investigations ("Post-Mortem") is super O_O and the one about the Fukushima nuclear disaster gave me crazy dreams. Maybe that's a bit overwhelming, idk.
