free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 18:47 (twelve years ago) link

Yay!

Almost done with grading midterms, one more meeting, it's 80 degrees, I jogged past some blooming dogwood trees today and it was glorious. That's about it.

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 18:48 (twelve years ago) link

I walked the dog past some blooming trees (dunno if it was dogwood) and thought "wtf smells like crotch?" Took me a second to remember about the crotchy smelling trees that bloom every year.

dan m, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 18:59 (twelve years ago) link

Dogwood are the crotch-smelling trees, yes. Wait. Dogwood trees are the trees that smell like crotch. I walked past a couple on the way home from the train last night.

It's above 80 degrees in our office. WHY GOD WHY?

carl agatha, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 20:13 (twelve years ago) link

They don't smell like crotch! They smell like flowers!

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 20:40 (twelve years ago) link

Those aren't the same flowering trees that smell like jizz, are they? B/c I don't think those are dogwoods.

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 20:54 (twelve years ago) link

You guys have messed up noses, that's all I can say.
Also I made brownies with walnuts last night and the walnuts taste weird. I think they're old :(
I ate the brownie anyway, but only because I've been having a crappy day and needed a treat, even one with OLD WALNUTS.

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 20:58 (twelve years ago) link

You know that there are flowering trees that are infamous for smelling like jizz, right?

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 21:01 (twelve years ago) link

No.

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 21:20 (twelve years ago) link

has youtube perfected smell-o-vision?

dan m, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 21:32 (twelve years ago) link

also lol at "The Jizz Tree", sounds like the worst conceivable follow-up to "The Giving Tree"

dan m, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 21:33 (twelve years ago) link

You have to add your own scent to the monitor.

xp haha

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 21:33 (twelve years ago) link

GIVES A WHOLE NEW MEANING TO "THE TREE OF LIFE" AM I RIGHT GUYS!?!?!?!?!?!?!LOLWTFOWFGKTA!

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 21:52 (twelve years ago) link

You guys, leave the jizz tree alone. It can't help whereupon it jizzes.

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 21:54 (twelve years ago) link

I think it smells like a flowering tree.

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 21:54 (twelve years ago) link

Maybe dogwoods don't smell like crotch, but they smell weird.

Who should I vote for in the metropolitan water reclamation district commissioner primary? Other than "not the person who is related to all the Daleys" because GTFO.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 22:01 (twelve years ago) link

http://www.suntimes.com/news/elections/10684430-505/six-democrats-float-names-for-water-district.html

So much patronage... mercy.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 22:06 (twelve years ago) link

Like, I'm probably taking this way too seriously (but come on - WATER! It is a big deal! Lake Michigan is a big lake! We might have to form a Chicago Militia to protect the lake from marauding outlanders!) but it's hard to believe a candidate for water reclamation commissioner who says she is all about the water, but also ran for and lost like four other elected positions in Chicago in the last five years or so. CLEARLY you just want to hold some kind of an elected office, whatever the hell it may be.

Debra Shore seems to actually care about it, and Kari Steele worked as a water chemist, so they seem like good picks. But I really enjoy not voting for Daleys and the rest of them are just clout hounds. Hmph.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 22:11 (twelve years ago) link

Whose crotch smells like flowers, that's what I want to know.

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 22:14 (twelve years ago) link

Aerosol dogwood crotch spray

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 22:17 (twelve years ago) link

Amanda you might wanna get your schnozz checked if you don't smell the jizz on the breeze....

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 22:19 (twelve years ago) link

No way man, my schnoz is in tip top shape. I am an excellent smeller, and my nose is large enough to be considered an authority on the matter of scent.

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 22:21 (twelve years ago) link

I figure amongst the regulars on the thread there's bound to be some worthwhile opinions on this:

I've written a bunch of web articles for the group of soccer lovers I've fallen in with and I'm wondering how I should preserve a few of the best of them as writing samples or portfolio items. The formatting's not that important, I'm just wondering how to strike a balance of 'officialness' while making them easily stored and shared. Screenshots? Text (html) files? Both?

I spoke with the elusive t0dd sw1ss tonight. He promised a return to ilx.

Jeff, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:12 (twelve years ago) link

Upload to Google docs and email them to yourself. That's what I do with all docs I want to preserve. I usually also store them on my laptop or thumb drive at work.

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:14 (twelve years ago) link

If it were me and I was really feeling paranoid I'd save them in rtf and PDF.

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:17 (twelve years ago) link

And HTML if appropriate since theyre web articles.

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:18 (twelve years ago) link

The collection of work I was really proud of from college - as well as personal stuff and high school fiction - was all lost in a terrible external hard drive crash. Since then I've been beyond diligent in managing my documents. Work habits helped, too.

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:22 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah this is partially driven by weirdness with my older mac laptop and the imminent shift of the group's web site from a CMS clusterfuck to a sleeker Wordpress. There are over 600 articles on the old site and any I don't save are gonna get deleted.

dan m, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:24 (twelve years ago) link

How you save them depends on what you want to showcase. If it's web design and writing together, save them as HTML and take some screen shots so you can have those for reference if any images break. If you just want to show the writing, I'd just save them as text files. I would definitely not just do screenshots because then you lose edibility/flexibility.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 12:38 (twelve years ago) link

If you want to save all of them, beg whoever is running the website to export them because 600 articles is a lot.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 12:38 (twelve years ago) link

there's a scent on the breeze
of crotch-smelling trees

Jesse, I know about the jizz trees.

Cuba Pudding, Jr. (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 13:45 (twelve years ago) link

I didn't write all 600! But thanks, that's a good way to think about it.

There are 4 jizz trees on our morning dogwalk route.

dan m, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 14:43 (twelve years ago) link

it's freezing here

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 14:44 (twelve years ago) link

It's not over 80 degrees here, so I am happier right now than I was all yesterday afternoon.

In other things that are making me happy: a lawyer just came into this office and his cell phone rang and his ring tone is "Smooth Criminal." LOL.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 14:57 (twelve years ago) link

I was starting to feel in the minority with the nice weather, I really love the 70s, but no thanks to 80+ in March. There'll be plenty of time for that this summer.

stan this sick bunt (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 15:01 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, I said last night that I was looking forward to it getting cooler this weekend.

Cuba Pudding, Jr. (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 15:18 (twelve years ago) link

Y'all if you ever feel lonely because you don't like warm weather, you can come hang out at the Overheated, Sweaty Kids table with Jesse and Dan and me. There's room for everyone. Just don't touch us; we're hot.

I have been watching the extended forecast like a hawk waiting to see when this misery will end. Sunny and highs in the 50s is pretty much my favorite weather, and that should be happening right now!

carl agatha, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 15:25 (twelve years ago) link

you can save a webpage as a PDF (in os x) by going to print and selecting "print to PDF" as the destination. with windows you have to install something like this freeware to get that functionality. PDFs are imo the best way to archive a webpage if you just want the appearance and not the source code

i've been enjoying the heat, but i grew up in texas

1staethyr, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 16:55 (twelve years ago) link

i just had to go downstairs and stand outside for a few minutes because it's so cold in here. think i'll make some tea.

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 16:56 (twelve years ago) link

Overheated, Sweaty Kid Stable

I lived in NC for 11 years in high school and beyond, but I dislike the heat more every summer.
