Roger's too vain to be suicidal. Even if he hates his job and his wife, he knows he has a natural charm and can get by on it for all his remaining years.

Plus he's not really all that reflective. He just moves on, he's not a dweller like Don.

Yeah, that too. Roger has no mood swings because he's mostly oblivious to what's going on around him.

serious question: has any sympathetic adult character on this show ever been seen taking a bite of food? seems like people only get to eat on the show when the writers want to show them in an unflattering light.

we're meant to hate betty, and there's the eating from last night, and that one episode where she does it with a stranger in a bar (that whore!) and eats out of the refrigerator when she gets home.

the "actually eating" is what i'm talking about. and i know sally has gotten to eat, that's why i was asking about adults.

this is something Sopranos conscientiously did all the time but tbf it's pretty rare on TV shows, not just Mad Man. It's really hard to shoot scenes of people with their mouths full.

like, I dunno how much I would read into it thematically

i know, it's just something i think about from time to time -- how shows (etc) sometimes use food as a device to help make someone seem more unlikeable.

yes, his wife is "making" him lose weight and he's obv such a weak person that all he wants to do outside of the house is cheat on his diet.

(and he's already cheated on his wife, speaking of things that harry cheats on)

harry actually told his wife that he cheated (not sure why i always want to stick up for him).

i wanted to stick up for him cuz he's a perennial loser, but the thing last week with megan was... well, him digging his own grave.

And he was very remorseful, which is why when he started getting really creepy with women I felt a bit let down by him. xp

pete has gone from being a weasel to being likeable, and he's been pretty creepy with women too.

actually most of these characters (including/especially peggy) are sexual weirdos.

no, the point that amc wants weiner to get rid of two characters in exchange for his THIRTY MILLION DOLLAR salary.

seem to recall that one of the things MW said after he signed his contract was that AMC were offering him more money at the expense of cast and minutes on air and he wasn't biting.

what's with all the Harry-hate? Did he start sucking in season 4 (which I watched sporadically and may have even missed a couple of eps), or something? I always found him to be one of the more likable, decent dudes in the office, particularly compared the likes of Pete or that pretentious beardo who got left behind after the SCDP break

yeah he is pretty easy to hate lately, but he used to be the nicest one. i will always love him for the carousel scene where he burst into tears.
