does Thor show his hammer

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 27 April 2012 01:37 (eleven years ago) link

I'm coming at it from the perspective of a comics fan, but the audience i saw it with seemed to love it too. It's Whedon, so it might be overly quippy at times but it's genuinely very funny. Kinda hectic, cos they're trying to give each character their due but they managed do so amazingly well. Most fun i've had at a big-budget summer movie in an age.

Number None, Friday, 27 April 2012 01:52 (eleven years ago) link

and there is a lot of hammer action

This was *stupendous* fun, not had a film experience like it in a long time: full house, whole audience tearing the place up as it went off, I thought the guy next to me was going to keel over such was his glee. Per Number None, many truly funny moments and a few brilliant one liners and visual gags. Terrific performances from nearly all the main players, Ruffalo needs a special mention for totally nailing Banner's character with pretty limited screen time (best movie Hulk ever too imo). I'm srsly thinking of seeing it again at the cinema, last film I did this for was Starship Troopers. (oh yeah, nice blink and you'll miss it cameo for a Whedon regular too).

that mustardless plate (Bill A), Friday, 27 April 2012 22:13 (eleven years ago) link

been thinking of seeing it again myself. Ruffalo really is tremendous (thank god it wasn't Edward Norton) and the visual gags you're talking about destroyed at my screening too

Number None, Friday, 27 April 2012 22:29 (eleven years ago) link

Ruff's delivery of the line for his "secret" totally gave me the chills. Yr dead right, Norton would have shit the bed if he'd been involved with this.

that mustardless plate (Bill A), Friday, 27 April 2012 22:42 (eleven years ago) link

Didn't think this was as good as the reviews led me to anticipate.

Bob Six, Saturday, 28 April 2012 21:26 (eleven years ago) link

I thoroughly enjoyed this. After two poor outings they finally got The Hulk right.

treefell, Saturday, 28 April 2012 22:01 (eleven years ago) link

This was okay for the most part, it clicked into Transformers-y incomprehensible mayhem mode towards the end, sadly.

DavidM, Sunday, 29 April 2012 04:17 (eleven years ago) link

The humour's done well, but I found it dragged a bit in places.

Bob Six, Sunday, 29 April 2012 12:25 (eleven years ago) link

how was Tom Hiddleston?

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 29 April 2012 12:41 (eleven years ago) link

He was very good - he has a particularly fine scene with ScarJo and gets to lay down a few excellent bits of monologuing. Certainly up to the high standard he set in Thor.

that mustardless plate (Bill A), Sunday, 29 April 2012 13:09 (eleven years ago) link

yes this wasn't great and if i didn't know wheedon had done it i wouldn't have been able to tell by watching really, there's just so much machinery that comes w/ this that it's difficult for anything even suggesting humanity to come out, it doesn't have that looseness of the first iron man movie, though it's never as flat as um every other marvel movie. i actually really really enjoyed the final battle, genuinely giddy at points, strong ditto to 'this movie gets hulk right'. ruffalo was good, hiddleston really was good, there are several moments where the standard superhero villain performance note is to go ott and he keeps it contained, an inside joke w/ himself. the moments he does go cackling evil are played as moments of weakness. eg that awesome moment w/ the hulk. the assemble the samurai sequence was really dull esp considering this was an avengers movie and i usually enjoy any assemble the samurai sequence. also the 'whenever superheroes meet they must FIGHT' rule was observed here, w/ weak returns.

I'm waaay late to this party, and I've only just watched Iron Man & Iron Man 2. Loved the shit out of both, RDJ just superb as always but it was the first Marvel movie that I've enjoyed for a long time.

Anyway, after seeing the rather giddy teasers at the end of both movies am now definitely going to go see Avengers.

PSOD (Ste), Sunday, 29 April 2012 22:14 (eleven years ago) link

Film's making ridiculous money already by all accounts.

this was my #1 pick in this little fantasy box office draft i'm in and i'm giddy at the basically guaranteed $400 mil+

JIM THOMETHEUS (zachlyon), Sunday, 29 April 2012 23:38 (eleven years ago) link

When Nick Fury said "The Tesseract is where it belongs" I was sorely tempted to shout out "It belongs in a museum!" but I'm not that kinda guy and also the cinema was full of youth who probably wouldn't have got the reference.

this was hell of fun btw

where is this supposed IMAX in Dublin?

Number None, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 10:08 (eleven years ago) link

it's the 'isense' 3d showing at the odeon up at point village.

diafiyhm (darraghmac), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 10:10 (eleven years ago) link

Agree with the boosters - fun+++, didn't flag, real laughs, ruffalo offers fine reading of the hulk and a well-balanced ensemble. Renner/Hawkeye the only meh-ish element for me.

woof, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 10:11 (eleven years ago) link

is this renner person, like, a famous person

thomp, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 10:12 (eleven years ago) link

oh yeah, that screen is a wee bit disappointing. The whole isense business (it's meant to be a 3D sound thing) seems like sort of a con

Number None, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 10:12 (eleven years ago) link

well i'm prepared for that, i mean it's the point tbf

diafiyhm (darraghmac), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 10:15 (eleven years ago) link

just as long as you're not going out of your way
