eedd, Tuesday, 19 July 2005 00:09 (eighteen years ago) link

Kim Gordon by a couple of light years.

Scream! Scrovula, Scream! (noodle vague), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 00:14 (eighteen years ago) link

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 03:02 (eighteen years ago) link

Gordon's a trustfund kid. Deal's 4 real. Plus, Deal's got better skin.

maria b (maria b), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 06:19 (eighteen years ago) link

just on a vocal level, deal's got it.
don't get me wrong, i luv me some 'Bro. James' and 'PCH' and some others, but hell c'mon!
'Pacer'(the album) is STILL one of my personal favorites...
rawks.so.nice.

eedd, Tuesday, 19 July 2005 17:14 (eighteen years ago) link

I'll go with Gordon. I don't wven remember Deal's voice.

daavid (daavid), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 18:00 (eighteen years ago) link

Deal by a couple light years

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 18:01 (eighteen years ago) link

Kim Deal is not directly or tangetntially involved with a-line girl's dresses or X-Girl or magazines or Grand Royal so Kim Deal wins by default.

Aaron A., Tuesday, 19 July 2005 18:15 (eighteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...
kim deal but its close. better singer, (i dont like gordons rasp)
beter bass playing style although gordons is better technically( but it dosnt matter u cant here the bass in sonic youth) and better songwriter. sonic youth and pixies tied but the breeders and the amps beats free kitten any day of the week.

david-smith, Friday, 5 August 2005 11:46 (eighteen years ago) link

Kim Gordon, easily.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 5 August 2005 11:50 (eighteen years ago) link

KIM CARNES.

Just kidding.

Kim Deal, I think.

The Mad Puffin (The Mad Puffin), Friday, 5 August 2005 13:20 (eighteen years ago) link

I want there to be a one-off eighties-revival supergroup called "The Kims."

EmVee, Friday, 5 August 2005 13:26 (eighteen years ago) link

Kim Deal. For pretty much the exact same reasons as David-Smith a few posts above!

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Friday, 5 August 2005 13:34 (eighteen years ago) link

DEAL. Such a good songwriter and singer.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:08 (eighteen years ago) link

to who ever said josephine wiggs was forgettable.
she was niot only an amazing bassist and drummer but had a great voice and co wrote metal man one of the best tracks from the breeder's pod album.

trev, Friday, 5 August 2005 16:53 (eighteen years ago) link

when i first saw this thread i thought to myself "kim deal, no question"
but the other day i finally replaced my copy of Confusion is Sex and all i have to say is "I'LL SHAKE OFF YOUR FLESH!!!"

Fetchboy (Felcher), Friday, 5 August 2005 17:02 (eighteen years ago) link

four months pass...
kim gordon
because she's a sonic youth member

cata martinez, Monday, 2 January 2006 00:39 (eighteen years ago) link

Kim Wilde.

BTW, Kim Gordon is at least 10 years older than Kim Deal. Serious MILFing.

Mitya (mitya), Monday, 2 January 2006 02:00 (eighteen years ago) link

SO FUCKING OBVIOUS!: kim mitchell.

Freud Junior (Freud Junior), Monday, 2 January 2006 02:12 (eighteen years ago) link

kim gordon

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Monday, 2 January 2006 02:15 (eighteen years ago) link

Gordon. No disrespect to Deal, but come ON -- "Flower," "Kissability," "Pattern Recognition," "Shadow of a Doubt," "Beauty Lies," "Orange Rolls, Angel Spit," "I Love You Golden Blue," etc etc etc etc.

xero (xero), Monday, 2 January 2006 02:18 (eighteen years ago) link

Kim Gordon. Though I certainly have a weak spot for everything Kim Deal's done musically.

Marty Innerlogic (marty innerlogic), Monday, 2 January 2006 16:29 (eighteen years ago) link

Gordon, obv. I also can barely even remember what KD's voice sounds like.

Sundar (sundar), Monday, 2 January 2006 16:36 (eighteen years ago) link

Deal, obv.

Cracks (Crackity), Monday, 2 January 2006 16:53 (eighteen years ago) link

Gordon, obv. More important in her heyday, cooler, part of a better band. She's even aged better. Aside from Albini's production, is there anything nice to say about the Breeders?

paulhw (paulhw), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 01:59 (eighteen years ago) link

Gordon is the better musician, but Deal is way cooler. In the end Deal wins.

Stephen C (ihope), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 02:22 (eighteen years ago) link

"Aside from Albini's production, is there anything nice to say about the Breeders?"

fun, quirky, catchy songs?

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 02:25 (eighteen years ago) link

Deal, BTW

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 02:25 (eighteen years ago) link

Kim Gordon I must agree with Fetchboy (wangchungvsah...), August 5th, 2005. ever since I heard "Shaking Hell" I've had a crush on her. so brilliant, like dolphin brilliant. doodle is cool as well

Sock Villers, Friday, 13 January 2006 05:28 (eighteen years ago) link

I must say that some day I hope Kim Gordon and Thurton Moore's daughter makes music amazing music, like her genes should allow her to do

J. Lamphere (WatchMeJumpStart), Friday, 13 January 2006 05:43 (eighteen years ago) link

KIM FOWELY!!!! okay, okay, Kim Deal. MUCH better songwriter and for influencing "smells like teen spirit" without a single SOUL noticing - exact same dynamics as "gigantic"! Sonic Youth had the noise thing going good, (nice to see some people who appreciate "confusion is sex")but the Pixies never made a bad album throughout their career, Sonic Youth have had quite a few misses in theirs, come on have you even HEARD that "Dirty" crap!?

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Friday, 13 January 2006 07:04 (eighteen years ago) link

Plus, that picture of Kim Deal up above is enough to make me choose her.hmmmm...I wonder what she smells like? Man, that one pic of Kim Gordon looks like Freddy Krueger! WOOF!!!

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Friday, 13 January 2006 09:35 (eighteen years ago) link

Kim Salmon. Number 1 for fun.

Deal takes Gordon though. Mainly due to Thurstons vulgar ego trip.

The Velvet Overlord (The Velvet Overlord), Friday, 13 January 2006 11:59 (eighteen years ago) link

"Gordon. No disrespect to Deal, but come ON -- "Flower," "Kissability," "Pattern Recognition," "Shadow of a Doubt," "Beauty Lies," "Orange Rolls, Angel Spit," "I Love You Golden Blue," etc etc etc etc."

d00d, 1/2 those songs mentioned are totally forgetable. now, if you had put "Addicted to Love" in there, i might be w/ you!

vulgar ego trip????? wha???

btw-kimmy d. i don't even think i care what she smells like anymore...i'd just do whatever w/ her, so long as @ the end of the day we had a few beers and hung out...
that and she's violently against the internet!!!
KIM DEAL WINS TEH INNERNET GAME!!!11

eedd, Friday, 13 January 2006 16:33 (eighteen years ago) link

Deal in half a heartbeat.

A: Kim Thayil

senseiDancer (sexyDancer), Friday, 13 January 2006 16:38 (eighteen years ago) link

Kim Deal made the Pixies brilliant once ("Gigantic") and just barely noticeable at all other times. Imagine the Pixies without Deal and you're imagining the most faceless- and anonymous-sounding band in the world.

Kim Gordon did great work with SY; her GAP ads (billboards in Boston) don't negate that work by any means, but it does call certain things into question. Is sweatshop labor all cool and acceptable and "new weird america" and ringer-shirted now?

Lawrence the Looter (Lawrence the Looter), Friday, 13 January 2006 17:59 (eighteen years ago) link

Imagine the Pixies without Deal and you're imagining the most faceless- and anonymous-sounding band in the world.

I'm no Pixies fanatic, but I can't get on board with this at all...
I guess it comes down to the fact that I'd rather listen to the Pixies, The Amps and possibly the Breeders than Sonic Youth most of the time.

i still think deal and pollard should've made at least four albums together (i guess they had a falling out?)

I love the Breeders' version of Gloomtown. I remember first hearing it in Live in Stockholm

the underground is pass-agg (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 20 June 2017 18:52 (six years ago) link

Fwiw I spoke to a woman in NYC in 2002 who claimed she interviewed Kim D backstage at a gig and she was openly smoking heroin but I think she went to rehab for alcoholism rather than heroin and that was before the Pixies reformed so suggestion she did the reformation to support her habit doesn't ring true. She admits to taking lots of drugs in the late 90s. Anyway both these women are icons to me and this thread kinda sucks but here I am adding to it so fuck me I guess.

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 20 June 2017 22:49 (six years ago) link

I assume she did the reunion for the money just like every band does

Freedom Cruise posted a couple posts up was:

Robert Pollard - guitar & vocals
Tobin Sprout - guitar
Jim Pollard - guitar
Jim Greer - bass
Kim Deal - guitar & backing vocals
Kelly Deal - drums & backing vocals

recorded circa Amps - Pacer & GBV - Alien Lanes

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Tuesday, 20 June 2017 23:52 (six years ago) link

eight months pass...

So glad Elijah Wood and you guys repped for Amps - Pacer. What a wonderful album I could have easily missed. Pollard only co-written a track but I kept imagining he had some bigger role because a bunch of songs sound a bit Pollardy to me.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Friday, 16 March 2018 23:28 (six years ago) link

I love that 90s picture of Kim + Pollard + whoever those other people are. That guy at the end of the table was he in Pavement? Probably

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 17 March 2018 00:09 (six years ago) link

Yeah that looks like Mark Ibold

startled macropod (MatthewK), Saturday, 17 March 2018 03:19 (six years ago) link

Isn't Kim there with former rock journalist/former Mr. Kim Deal/former GBV member Jim Greer?

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 17 March 2018 04:22 (six years ago) link

Lol yeah... Ibold looks nothing like him.
