So, I was on Piers Morgan’s show on CNN tonight. It was a shameful spectacle. He pretended to be a serious interviewer and I spent far too long pretending he was one too. My apologies to everyone who tuned in. I will have a more comprehensive response tomorrow on the Tyranny of Cliches blog.

I really don't like talking about gushing in such proximity to Morgan or Goldberg but I'm sure Morgan fawned over Rosario Dawson because she's hot -- I doubt he even knows about her political affiliation.

Conservative analysts and commentators admit their biases up front, and so journalists dismiss them as biased. “Objective” analysts and commentators lie about not having biases and their statements are taken at face value. I remember when I used to be on CNN how frustrating it was to have liberal contributors be asked “What did you think of the speech?” But when it came time to ask me or another conservative it was “So, Jonah, what’s the conservative take on this?

I'm not sure what they're trying to mine here, because despite a little pretentious, those comments on Eliot really don't fit with the "lol teleprompter" image they like to portray. That's a pretty fucking smart 23 year old there.

nope. he was serious. most columnists resort to overreaching the bounds of sense or decency when it comes to filling their alloted space. that space is a tyranny that must be filled, even at the cost of looking like an utter prat. they get used to it very soon, or else stop writing columns.

The juxtaposition of that text with those pictures struck me as, "How dare this ignorant thug pretend to understand T.S. Eliot." Like you say, the letters are a little pretentious--everyone's at their most pretentious when they're at university. I'm sure some people would wonder why I'm seizing on this particular example of something that's been going on for four years. For whatever reason, this one seemed especially insidious to me.
