OK, now, this ep was pretty much straight parody. Cute and amusing, but nothing more than that. I don't mind placeholder gimmick episodes, but I hope we're a long way from the flashback to when everyone in the cast was fat.

actually How I Met Your Mother had a character become briefly fat in a present day narrative, which is maybe even worse, but New Girl and Raising Hope have both recently done fatsuit flashbacks

but raising hope's goth flashbacks are the best. drakkar noir!

They only went there about once a season iirc, and made sure those segments were rock solid jokes-wise.

once a season is too much, especially for a show that was on for like 10 years

lots of laughs and i'm fine with them going into the whole 'expulsion' plotline but it felt like such a confusing leap of logic, one minute starburns is dead and the next they're...really mad at the school for some reason? kinda dumb.

so glad to see Chang as security guard pay off after he was barely used for so many eps

iirc, they were all mad about having to take summer classes through no fault of their own. seems a somewhat reasonable leap, letting all their frustrations finally boil over. also, its a sitcom.

oh ok, i must've gotten distracted and missed the summer class thing.

because of Starburns' death, Omar resigned as teacher, meaning the entire class got "incompletes" and was going to have to make it up over the summer.

Which is a v. legitimate reason to be pissed, I've seen students go murderous over less.

I don't think he *had to* resign, he probably was just horrified by what happened as a result of Starburns stealing supplies from the class lab.

I think it makes a lot of sense, actually. Student dies in meth exlposion using supplies stolen from school's lab. Teacher in charge of said lab resigns before legal reprecussions come his way for allowing the supplies to be removed from the school.

I hope there's a director's cut of Garrett singing the entirety of Ave Maria

someone on twitter pointed out that the group actually did go through the five stages of grief, starting with jeff's denial, then the riot (anger), trying to make chang the fall guy (bargaining), then depression & acceptance back at troy/abed/annie's place
