rewatching the subway episode right now. completely missed the dean's "I was just googling records lengths of stuff" the first time. this show is still on top.

So CP McKenna has a development deal at Universal, and Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan are leaving for Fox. Production team fragmenting!
― trishyb, Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:41 (twelve years ago) link
that's what happens when you put a show in constant cancellation threat

Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan
Wait are these the dudes who play Fat Neil and Garrett? :( Save Garrett!!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:51 (twelve years ago) link
The characters of Fat Neil and Garrett are named after Goldman and Donovan respectively.
― polyphonic, Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:54 (twelve years ago) link
Ahh, okay.. since Starburns was a writer I thought a few of them might be.

I would be heartbroken if Garrett left, best tertiary character IMO.

Funny episode. Shit final scene (not the Starburns memorial coda, that was awesome).

lots of laughs and i'm fine with them going into the whole 'expulsion' plotline but it felt like such a confusing leap of logic, one minute starburns is dead and the next they're...really mad at the school for some reason? kinda dumb.
― some dude, Friday, 4 May 2012 13:20 (twelve years ago) link
they're mad at their year of study being wasted
so glad to see Chang as security guard pay off after he was barely used for so many eps
― ┗|∵|┓ (sic), Friday, 4 May 2012 13:30 (twelve years ago) link
iirc, they were all mad about having to take summer classes through no fault of their own. seems a somewhat reasonable leap, letting all their frustrations finally boil over. also, its a sitcom.
― heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 4 May 2012 13:44 (twelve years ago) link
oh ok, i must've gotten distracted and missed the summer class thing.
― some dude, Friday, 4 May 2012 13:46 (twelve years ago) link
because of Starburns' death, Omar resigned as teacher, meaning the entire class got "incompletes" and was going to have to make it up over the summer.
― heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 4 May 2012 13:48 (twelve years ago) link
Which is a v. legitimate reason to be pissed, I've seen students go murderous over less.
― Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Friday, 4 May 2012 16:07 (twelve years ago) link
i don't even understand the logic of how Starburns dies in a meth lab explosion outside of school so the professor has to resign?
― Nhex, Friday, 4 May 2012 16:08 (twelve years ago) link
I don't think he *had to* resign, he probably was just horrified by what happened as a result of Starburns stealing supplies from the class lab.
― Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Friday, 4 May 2012 16:10 (twelve years ago) link
Nicole otm, that was how I understood it. Still, lets not demand too much logic now. Dean was on fire again this episode.
"Come on, I dean. I keep it so clean, look at me I'm staaaapling." (or however it went)
― heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 4 May 2012 16:12 (twelve years ago) link
A man's gotta have a code, etc. Still - a shame that Omar finally gets an excellent episode and then departs.

that still.. barely makes sense, even in TV land
― Nhex, Friday, 4 May 2012 16:55 (twelve years ago) link
I think it makes a lot of sense, actually. Student dies in meth exlposion using supplies stolen from school's lab. Teacher in charge of said lab resigns before legal reprecussions come his way for allowing the supplies to be removed from the school.

Besides, Britta was never supposed to be brilliant: we find out in the first episode that she dropped out of high school to impress Radiohead.
You have set me up for the perfect zing but perhaps I will save it for the Mad Men thread.

(Really enjoyed the episode though btw.)
I laughed pretty damn loud at Britta reaching to console Jeff as he bawls into his textbook and he just slaps her hand away.
4 eps left, btw. Next week, then 3 on the Thursday after that.

You'd have thought they might have noticed he looked just like Jeff?
Amazing episode, just hilarious all the way through. And yeah OTM about the Chang payoff. I actually really want them to develop Chang as military dictator now, that would be glorious.
They'll all have to enroll at the air conditioning repair school now..

Haven't seen the new ep yet, so I'll complain about it later, but what kind of community college makes you go to summer school? I just figured community college sort of *was* like summer school, sort of informal, where you just sort of scheduled classes ad hoc and wily nilly.
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 5 May 2012 13:54 (twelve years ago) link
Ha, trust me, it's often way more formal than that.

I liked this ep, but it felt sort of ... short? Perhaps because there was so much going on. Dean was great here, and tbh I'm not a huge Dean booster; I like him in small doses.
I recall before the season resumed the trailer played up Chang on the rampage, so I assume there will be more Chang to come.

Chang is in the air?
