or maybe she's just very serious about her art

I felt bad for Megan there

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Saturday, 19 May 2012 06:07 (eleven years ago) link

I also don't get why Megan in jealous of Betty. Is she? I can see why Betty is jealous of Megan.

I don't know if she's jealous of her, except maybe to the extent that Betty still has a claim on Don's attention, affection, and loyalty. But she's certainly suspicious of her, and she's right to be.

trishyb, Saturday, 19 May 2012 13:06 (eleven years ago) link

I think Don's "Betty's fat nose" comment (and the Anna--Sally thing) prove much of his goodwill towards Betts is now gone.

Leslie Mann: Boner Machine (C. Grisso/McCain), Saturday, 19 May 2012 13:13 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, I love that Sally has worked out that she can finally get her own back on Betty without getting herself into any trouble.

trishyb, Saturday, 19 May 2012 13:31 (eleven years ago) link

I never thought Betty had much of Don's loyalty or affection unless she was about to die.

*tera, Saturday, 19 May 2012 16:45 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, I love that Sally has worked out that she can finally get her own back on Betty without getting herself into any trouble.

otoh it's kind of sad that she's basically learned how to do this from Betty herself.

That "Are you gonna make yourself cry?" bit with Megan was pretty spot-on Betty, too (amazing how well Kiernan Shipka channels January Jones in those moments).

Roz, Sunday, 20 May 2012 04:46 (eleven years ago) link

like Megan's little condescending note to Betty when she found her in the house. What was it? Something like "You've seen everything" or "You've seen enough" or something.
― dan selzer, Tuesday, May 15, 2012

I took this as "well you're never going to see the bedroom"

bailiwick bill (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 20 May 2012 06:25 (eleven years ago) link

iirc it was "I think you've seen all of it."

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 20 May 2012 06:42 (eleven years ago) link

otoh it's kind of sad that she's basically learned how to do this from Betty herself.

They're like the anti-Gilmore Girls.

trishyb, Sunday, 20 May 2012 10:45 (eleven years ago) link

"like Megan's little condescending note to Betty when she found her in the house."

She let herself in and was clearing snooping around to satisfy her curiosity! I think a little condescension is appropriate.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Sunday, 20 May 2012 14:06 (eleven years ago) link

yeah it was an innocuous 'there really isn't much to see' comment about the apt (which in itself might be about megan's insecurity about don's wealth) w/ a heavy undertone of 'go fuck yrself bitch'.

balls, Sunday, 20 May 2012 14:11 (eleven years ago) link

Had she given Betty the full tour, would have made Betty explode with rage later.

this is one of my favorite episodes of the season. the krishnas. don's face during the play. lane's conniving.

roger's amazing shirt.

s.clover, Monday, 21 May 2012 02:38 (eleven years ago) link

joan blowing her top. "there's an airplane here to see you. surprise." it just keeps getting better.

Harry actually being a stand-up guy. The wonders of this episode never cease.

s.clover, Monday, 21 May 2012 03:02 (eleven years ago) link

So much going on this episode, so many nice moments and slow-moving threads. It all felt very season one (which is a good thing).

s.clover, Monday, 21 May 2012 03:08 (eleven years ago) link

A couple slow dissolves between scenes, which is something I don't recall them having done recently.

Harry actually being a stand-up guy.
In more than one sense, even!

the whole paul kinsey plotline broke my brain

producer / dj / humanitarian (reddening), Monday, 21 May 2012 05:24 (eleven years ago) link

I never expected to see Kinsey again, so him coming back this was even more of a delight.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 21 May 2012 05:27 (eleven years ago) link

I think it's only happened a couple other times, but when Don and Joan are together just being Don and Joan it's one of the best parts of the series.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 21 May 2012 05:28 (eleven years ago) link

some really fucked up (not in a good way) cuts in this one, like bad coverage etc.

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Monday, 21 May 2012 07:42 (eleven years ago) link

they keep cutting between different medium shots of pete in a way that's really distracting.

is that samantha mathis?

it occurs to me that christina hendricks is a good actress.

I thought the agency had a car already w/Oldsmobile.

Also: was it wrong to lose my shit everytime they came back to Hare Kinsey?

great line by harry - but you already gave it away

johnny crunch, Monday, 21 May 2012 11:32 (eleven years ago) link

that subplot was really weird, almost too weird, and too busy--it should have been spread out across a few episodes. does mad men really do little one-episode mini-plots like that often? usually not.

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Monday, 21 May 2012 13:20 (eleven years ago) link

have you been watching this year?

He apparently owes quite a bit in income tax to the British government. Not sure what the role of the guy on the other end of the phone was (accountant? tax mediator?).

How does that girl still have a job, though?

Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Monday, 21 May 2012 14:50 (eleven years ago) link

She's not cut off anyone's foot yet, right?

Johnny Fever, Monday, 21 May 2012 14:51 (eleven years ago) link

Why did Don quote Bobbie Barrett? She's the one who said to him, "I like being bad, and going home and being good."

*tera, Monday, 21 May 2012 14:56 (eleven years ago) link

Thought the scene between Harry and Lakshmi seemed a bit out of place.

*tera, Monday, 21 May 2012 14:59 (eleven years ago) link

It totally did, but I think part of that is because Harry generally has no work scenes. The other part is the lame "I used to be a sex worker, so I'm going to manipulate you the best way I know how" aspect of her whole approach. Whether it was the Krishna thing or what happened with Lakshmi, Harry did the right thing by getting Kinsey out of that situation.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 21 May 2012 15:03 (eleven years ago) link

fun episode, joan was the best thing about it. liking all the references to space and sci-fi this season, though i doubt they'll add up to anything.

spextor vs bextor (contenderizer), Monday, 21 May 2012 15:28 (eleven years ago) link

Loved it, good ep. Joan is the best!

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 21 May 2012 15:29 (eleven years ago) link

i cant even watch that joan .gif. i get the purpose of that scene & her character's reason for that behavior but it's srsly, deeply horrible

johnny crunch, Monday, 21 May 2012 15:36 (eleven years ago) link

dying at the Kinsey stuff, just great. Redeemed Harry a bit, imho
