Bee Gees did it twice (UK *and* the US)

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:38 (eleven years ago) link

Slade did it, but at the same time they just stopped making so much money.

Hare Kinsey (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:43 (eleven years ago) link

layne had that phone call with some sort of school master about Nigel's (or some other britisher name) tuition. Think the cost of that education happening in england is one of the things making it hard for him to keep his head above water.

mizzell, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:45 (eleven years ago) link

i admittedly dont know much about it myself, but it seems to me that being a disgraced tax outlaw would be something unthinkable to someone of lane's station in that era.

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:48 (eleven years ago) link

I am officially cursing this thread for bringing back memories of Steel Wheels.

Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:50 (eleven years ago) link

well, you're not the only one with mixed emotions, bub.

oh i see what u did there

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 19:28 (eleven years ago) link

fuck, this episode was grim. i need to go take a shower after watching this shit, damn. totally great tho. i wonder what will happen with peggy, i.e. how much of what happens to her will we see. i don't think this is a show that would be scared to let a main character disappear.

zverotic discourse (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:08 (eleven years ago) link

I'm confident Peggy is one character that won't happen to.

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:10 (eleven years ago) link

ya it would be pretty insane if that was the last we saw of her. i doubt it.

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:18 (eleven years ago) link

yeah I doubt it too. Chaugh using her to get back at Draper seems inevitable.

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:19 (eleven years ago) link

c'mon, there would totally be a shit ton of press if elizabeth moss left the show

forks otm

spextor vs bextor (contenderizer), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:21 (eleven years ago) link

"disappear" a bit strong. but like yeah, i could see her being a lot less prominent.

zverotic discourse (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:22 (eleven years ago) link

what if the character of peggy disappeared from the show, but "peggy" appeared as a sort of glowing floating little angel that sat on don's shoulder and gave him guidance in times of crisis?

that way, elisabeth moss would still be on the show, and there wouldn't be any press about it.

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:26 (eleven years ago) link

would need to be paired with a "bad" peggy

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:28 (eleven years ago) link

that can be Sal!

this kind of sucks b/c interactions b/t don and peggy were a highlight of this show. but you know.

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:36 (eleven years ago) link

OR MAYBE THIS ENTIRE LAST EPISODE WAS A DREAM

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:37 (eleven years ago) link

I don't feel that Peggy was as instrumental in this season, so her character being reduced in prominence would make sense.

Time for Ginsburg to shine!

homosexual II, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:40 (eleven years ago) link

chaough said that his hire of peggy was as much about getting the dirt on don as her work itself. if she left to 'get away' from don, there's plenty of disappointment to play around with there.

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:42 (eleven years ago) link

I would like a side-story of her experiences working at the other ad agency, like zomg life outside SDCP

also isnt' that guy who hired her the dorky friend from Adventures in Babysitting? I'm too lazy to google atm

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:43 (eleven years ago) link

Can't believe anyone thinks this is the end for Peggy - Don won't be able to cope without her, she's saved them too many times, can sort of see the non-Jaguar accounts falling apart without her. No guarantee she'll like her new job, the chances of Don hiring her back for a load more money are pretty high.

Amazing episode, the Joan plotline was horrible but brilliantly done. Worth remembering that Pete basically played the other partners by making out that Joan was even considering it. Cooper wasn't as outright terrible as the others but it's going to be difficult to redeem Roger and Lane from here, but really none of them other than Don come out with any credit.

I guess Joan as partner will want to know everything about the financial side of the firm, which is bad news for Lane.

eh I don't think this is going to happen either. no one goes back to old employers. at least, no one with any sense does.

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 21:42 (eleven years ago) link

eh, it's TV. consonance with reality isn't a high priority.

spextor vs bextor (contenderizer), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 21:43 (eleven years ago) link

they've already done the "getting the band back together" bit. they aren't gonna repeat that.

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 21:47 (eleven years ago) link

My idea is going to happen. That's what's going to happen.

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 21:54 (eleven years ago) link

amateurist misspelling three character names in one post has really got my irrational anger juices flowing.

this happens plenty.

h8rs gonna http://www.npr.org/blogs/monkeysee/2012/05/29/153908787/mad-men-ruminations-on-the-buying-and-selling-of-something-beautiful#more

Keep in mind that this is a writer blogged about *crying* because her landlord wanted her to move the couch away from the wall to fix something in her apartment. I find her writing a bit unhinged at times.

Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 21:59 (eleven years ago) link

folx can we please talk about what might happen in terms of what kind of possibilities the writers have opened up for themselves based on what they've shown so far, not in terms of what people are totally probably gonna do in those circumstances

you are driving me fucking crazy

goole, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:00 (eleven years ago) link

what might happen in terms of what kind of possibilities the writers have opened up for themselves based on what they've shown so far,

yeah by this metric I can't see Peggy going back

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:14 (eleven years ago) link

by that metric i COULD, because this is like, the third-last episode of the season

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:22 (eleven years ago) link

but i doubt they would

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:22 (eleven years ago) link

I think Don leaving SCDP is actually a real possibility now and to be honest who knows where the show goes then and how these people interact.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:27 (eleven years ago) link

usually you dont add a radical plot pt like that just to undo it in the next ep (xp talking about peggy leaving)

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:30 (eleven years ago) link

I'm scared of Ginsberg coming into prominence. He's got this dark spiteful streak, like he could easily become unhinged. I don't see him gaining the confidence of the partners. On the other hand, he may represent mass culture's movement toward more mean spirited, self aware, or absurd content. His mock-ups had that Mad Magazine vibe.

Leon Septamost, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:47 (eleven years ago) link

"He's got this dark spiteful streak, like he could easily become unhinged."

Compared to Pete Campbell I think he's incredibly well-adjusted actually.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:49 (eleven years ago) link

maybe Peggy will get Don a job lol

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 23:00 (eleven years ago) link

xp yeah, ginsberg seems better adjusted than pete and even don

spextor vs bextor (contenderizer), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 23:18 (eleven years ago) link

he's not mean-spirited or spiteful, he's just... kind of childlike.

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 00:34 (eleven years ago) link

i feel like i've known lots of jewish kids like him at camp and stuff. smart, emotionally immature, don't understand why they arent' getting everything they deserve

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 00:35 (eleven years ago) link

maybe Don will quit the advertising business altogether and give acting a shot, so he can work with Megan again
