Keep in mind that this is a writer blogged about *crying* because her landlord wanted her to move the couch away from the wall to fix something in her apartment. I find her writing a bit unhinged at times.

folx can we please talk about what might happen in terms of what kind of possibilities the writers have opened up for themselves based on what they've shown so far, not in terms of what people are totally probably gonna do in those circumstances

you are driving me fucking crazy

goole, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:00 (eleven years ago) link

what might happen in terms of what kind of possibilities the writers have opened up for themselves based on what they've shown so far,

yeah by this metric I can't see Peggy going back

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:14 (eleven years ago) link

by that metric i COULD, because this is like, the third-last episode of the season

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:22 (eleven years ago) link

but i doubt they would

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:22 (eleven years ago) link

I think Don leaving SCDP is actually a real possibility now and to be honest who knows where the show goes then and how these people interact.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:27 (eleven years ago) link

usually you dont add a radical plot pt like that just to undo it in the next ep (xp talking about peggy leaving)

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:30 (eleven years ago) link

I'm scared of Ginsberg coming into prominence. He's got this dark spiteful streak, like he could easily become unhinged. I don't see him gaining the confidence of the partners. On the other hand, he may represent mass culture's movement toward more mean spirited, self aware, or absurd content. His mock-ups had that Mad Magazine vibe.

Leon Septamost, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:47 (eleven years ago) link

"He's got this dark spiteful streak, like he could easily become unhinged."

Compared to Pete Campbell I think he's incredibly well-adjusted actually.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:49 (eleven years ago) link

maybe Peggy will get Don a job lol

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 23:00 (eleven years ago) link

xp yeah, ginsberg seems better adjusted than pete and even don

spextor vs bextor (contenderizer), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 23:18 (eleven years ago) link

he's not mean-spirited or spiteful, he's just... kind of childlike.

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 00:34 (eleven years ago) link

i feel like i've known lots of jewish kids like him at camp and stuff. smart, emotionally immature, don't understand why they arent' getting everything they deserve

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 00:35 (eleven years ago) link

maybe Don will quit the advertising business altogether and give acting a shot, so he can work with Megan again

silverfish, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 01:06 (eleven years ago) link

maybe they will all travel through time to an alternate universe in an episode called Mad Men in Black 3

sarahell, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 04:20 (eleven years ago) link

if it's mad men, it'll have to take place in an elevator

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 04:47 (eleven years ago) link

Who has Ginsberg shown even a passing emotional interest in?

Leon Septamost, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 05:28 (eleven years ago) link

If jealousy and contempt are emotions, he's very emotional about Megan.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 05:29 (eleven years ago) link

i still want to know why she kept borrowing money from him for lunch

sarahell, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 06:08 (eleven years ago) link

because she was hungry

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 13:19 (eleven years ago) link

Actually Don and Peggy in direct competition with one another would probably be a lot of fun as a plotline, especially if Peggy gets a couple of wins over him.

my manager (lol) had a good point about peggy leaving: the network politics of this season were about cutting characters and reducing the size of the show (adios kinsey). are we really going to have a whole other office in the next season?

That was two seasons ago...

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 14:08 (eleven years ago) link

Given they've kept Betty going for two seasons after she stopped having any real plot function they can keep Peggy around in some way as well.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 14:10 (eleven years ago) link

That was two seasons ago...

jesus was it

goole, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 14:17 (eleven years ago) link

does anyone remember if they messed with the chronology in any other episode besides this and the Howard Johnson's/LSD one?

ryan, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 14:18 (eleven years ago) link

There was a third season episode involving Don getting drugged and mugged by some kids in a motel room that was told in a funny order.

AMC made Weiner scale down the cast once (two seasons ago) and then wanted him to do it again before this season during all the contract talks. He said no, and won.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 14:27 (eleven years ago) link

well that doesn't really bode well for the idea of expanding the cast then does it

goole, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 14:29 (eleven years ago) link

They don't have to expand the cast, they just have to show Peggy and the other guy up against Don every so often.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 14:39 (eleven years ago) link

I hope we get to see Mother Francis again this season, particularly with Sally.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 14:53 (eleven years ago) link

Don't think Peggy's going away from the show anytime soon - iirc both Jon Hamm and Matthew Weiner have said things recently along the lines of, that there's a reason that the show starts on her very first day of work.

I don't know if that's just misdirection, but in those instances they seem to acknowledge that Peggy is the closest to an audience proxy, so I just don't think they're going to let go of her that quickly.

Roz, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 18:57 (eleven years ago) link

Also, while Don may treat Peggy like crap in the office, she's also his new Anna - she'll prob be the first person he turns to if things go seriously wrong with Megan.

Roz, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 18:58 (eleven years ago) link

someone on twitter posted an interview with christina hendricks, and she said matt weiner had this joan plotline in mind since a season or two ago. maybe that's meant to be comforting, in a "he has a plan, don't worry, this is going somewhere" way, but i still find it difficult to accept that roger wouldn't talk to joan about it beforehand, and that joan would reject roger's money but go through with this.

producer / dj / humanitarian (reddening), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 20:04 (eleven years ago) link

I think the way Roger has treated Jane this season has made it clear that his money comes with a lot of strings attached. Joan is never going to have to deal with Jaguar guy again -- it makes sense to me.

Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 20:07 (eleven years ago) link

Also, while Don may treat Peggy like crap in the office, she's also his new Anna

^^^ This. I mean, Don was on top of his game before he went into that room with Peggy and he looked genuinely crushed at the end of it. Especially when he realised here she was going.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 20:10 (eleven years ago) link

Don was on top of his game before he went into that room with Peggy

haha waht he was totally pissed about the Joan/Jaguar thing and had ditched the party!

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 20:11 (eleven years ago) link

i am a bit surprised that post-acid, "life-altering experience" roger would so blithely let this pass. though blithe is admittedly what roger does best...

spextor vs bextor (contenderizer), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 20:20 (eleven years ago) link

Remember, Pete phrased this all to them as if Joan had already agreed but that they couldn't afford her. Joan was trying to tell Pete she had no price (until Pete went back to HER as if they'd all voted that she had to do it - did not say 'you can say no' as Bert wanted clear.)

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 20:22 (eleven years ago) link

So from the perspective, Roger thought Joan was up for sleeping with this guy and then just said the "leave me out of it" or whatever.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 20:22 (eleven years ago) link

still, if i were a friend of joan's, i'd want a word with here, regardless of how some weaselly little nerd described the situation to me. roger hardly seems to be pete's biggest fan, after all.

spextor vs bextor (contenderizer), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 20:25 (eleven years ago) link

here = her

spextor vs bextor (contenderizer), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 20:25 (eleven years ago) link

one of the problems with standard soap opera plotting is that it so often requires that everyone unquestioningly accept things said by the least credible people. mad men is usually smarter about avoiding that device.

That scene was a really, really tough scene to film. They didn’t tell me they were going to do this but Phil told Jon to hold on to my hand and not let it go. And then he did and I really sort of lost it… and I will say that every single one of those tears was actually absolutely real.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 20:27 (eleven years ago) link

it does seem sort of weird that Roger would take Pete's word for it and not discuss it with Joan. otoh maybe he did and we just didn't see it.

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 20:27 (eleven years ago) link

scientologists don't cry real tears fyi

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 20:28 (eleven years ago) link

xp and of course we've all read Mad Style by now & know that JOan wore the fur Roger gave her (when he met Don!) as a giant 'Fuck you!' to Roger -not- going to talk to her about the deal.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 20:30 (eleven years ago) link

we have another two whole episodes to see how bitter and miserable roger is
