Get an I Go and come pick me up? :D

Also stop gloating. Your wife is trapped in River North or wherever the hell I am.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 23:58 (eleven years ago) link

But you're having beer and I am not.

Jeff, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 23:59 (eleven years ago) link

You might as well eat dinner there because I forgot to take out chicken. But by the time you get back it may be defrosted anyway.

Jeff, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 23:59 (eleven years ago) link

People by my house said you could smell smoke in the air.

I ran, too. To my doc's office. Sucked. But he gave me a Diet Coke.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 00:01 (eleven years ago) link

The only food here is pretzel rods. ;_;

carl agatha, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 00:02 (eleven years ago) link

I'm going back out to try and get a cab in about 15 min. Hopefully northbound 22 buses are okay by now. I'm buzzed enough to not be too miserable if I end up standing with my face in a stranger's armpit.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 00:04 (eleven years ago) link

They're playing Bad Religion.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 00:06 (eleven years ago) link

Now Better Than Ezra "Good." I'm totally going to sing to the dude next to me talking about his PC setup and making dick jokes. Y'all know how much I like to sing this song.

WahhhawwwawwwwawwwawwWAHawwww

carl agatha, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 00:10 (eleven years ago) link

STAND DOWN RED ALERT. I walked out of the bar and into a cab. I repeat: stand down red alert.

We're stuck in traffic now, though, and "I Did It All For The Nookie" is on the radio. Lolllllll at me forever.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 00:33 (eleven years ago) link

I can't believe it's actually 80 degrees out here! The dew point must be insanely low b/c it feels AMAZING out here. I got a chill a minute ago when the wind hit my sweaty neck. Dry heat, yo!

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 01:00 (eleven years ago) link

Dew Point: 36 °F

That's awesome.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 01:02 (eleven years ago) link

This is Je55e J3ndra with traffic and weather on the eights.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 01:02 (eleven years ago) link

Ah! Turns out that I never knew where Roy's was. I thought it was at Lincoln, Irving, and Damen. No wonder there was smoke in Lincoln Park.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 03:02 (eleven years ago) link

Boy was today a horrible day to have to drive. 2.5 hours to get home. LSD was a parking lot, 1.5 of those hours were simply getting from Balbo to Fullerton. I considered leaving my car overnight and taking a cab, but my boss called and said he abandoned his cab because it was just sitting and not moving anywhere.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 03:06 (eleven years ago) link

Looks like Roy's is pretty much screwed, they're going to tear down the whole building now.

Jeff, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 12:00 (eleven years ago) link

I hope it was an intentional insurance fraud fire and they wanted to lose the whole business and they don't get caught.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 12:26 (eleven years ago) link

Okay, one more - http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-brown-red-purple-lines-shut-down-due-to-extraalarm-fire-20120529,0,328774.story

Not only did Roy's burn down, a Metra train killed somebody, and a fire near Rockwell muffed up Brown Line trains up thataway.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only weirdo who felt a bond with Roy's, though.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 12:36 (eleven years ago) link

Luckily, everything was copacetic for me when I left work at 8. Kr was stranded in Evanston for a while, though.

Never translate Dutch (jaymc), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 12:45 (eleven years ago) link

The stabbing was on the 5000 block of N Clark and the only bar I'm aware of on that block is T's.

Man, Roy's was apparently an institution. I feel like I'm back in Wilkesboro the way people are eulogizing it. My barber said she sent a lot of her customers there and said how cheap and cluttered but nice it was.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 13:21 (eleven years ago) link

Whoa that's right by my work!

game of crones (La Lechera), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 13:23 (eleven years ago) link

Oh shit, the shooting was at Laurie's Pizza. Huh.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 13:27 (eleven years ago) link

Both are right by your work and right by my old apartment.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 13:28 (eleven years ago) link

What is going on Chicago? Calm down with the shooting and stabbings, eh?

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 13:49 (eleven years ago) link

just get the fires and violence over by July 3.

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 14:06 (eleven years ago) link

Oh man I'm going to be out of town when you visit. But don't worry Morbs, we'll be all calmed down and the Cubs will be in first place by the time you arrive. Wait, I don't even think that last part is mathematically possible even.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 14:08 (eleven years ago) link

None of this is my fault.

Jeff, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 14:08 (eleven years ago) link

The comments on the Trib's report of the fire are as sweet as anyone could hope for. Couple of folks said Chicago is like a "third world city" b/c of shit like the fire, train delays, and broken glass on the lakeshore path.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 14:53 (eleven years ago) link

This was funny though: Just rioting Cub fans celebrating a two-game winning streak.

ok you guys, want to waste time making loops? http://www.sembeo.com/media/Matrix.swf

1. Planes collided at O'Hare?

2. Is there a thread about that poor dude who ate that other poor dude's face? I'm interested in the drug angle and figure ILX could do a good job with that. (Also realized I'm really out of the loop, drugwise, when someone told me about "spice" and "bath salts" and I realized I had no idea what those things are.) (like, I had heard of bath salts but thought it was idiots actually ingesting bath additives, which is not the case?)

carl agatha, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 20:31 (eleven years ago) link

there's some discussion of the face-eating on the o_O 3 thread

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 20:33 (eleven years ago) link

I've seen that Matrix thing before. It's pretty fun. Everything sounds like Steve Reich.

Man, that sucks. I hope they re-open. I had no idea it was such a loved, deeply-rooted part of the community. I think I might have said it here before, but it's like being back in Wilkesboro where we had chains (North Kakalackites might remember Heilig-Meyer?), but people liked shopping from Danny C@dill's shop on Main Street.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Friday, 1 June 2012 01:07 (eleven years ago) link

Cute/annoying thing Eddie the cat did that maybe you pals will find funny like I do:

This morning when I woke up I rolled over onto something hard and sharp under my shoulder. Yesterday I made 2 copies of my 2 house keys and left them on a table with the cardboard backing still stuck on them. Eddie had dragged them all into the bed and laid them at the top of the bed near my head and torso.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Friday, 1 June 2012 01:15 (eleven years ago) link

I had no idea it was such a loved, deeply-rooted part of the community.

And I had literally never heard of it until the conflagration.

Never translate Dutch (jaymc), Friday, 1 June 2012 03:08 (eleven years ago) link

We got our bed and chest of drawers from there. And a chair.

Jeff, Friday, 1 June 2012 03:23 (eleven years ago) link

the word "conflagration" reminds me of bad religion

I finally got to use Illinois's new public domain legal citation format today! I am unreasonably excited about this! Although I can't find any reference for how to do short cites on subsequent citations, but that's okay.

Also, to celebrate the release of the newly HD remastered blu-ray of Star Trek: The Next Generation, they are showing two HD episodes in theaters in July.

Basically my dorkery is firing on all cylinders today.
