We can talk about this on the phone tomorrow. We shouldn't be putting stuff about the Mark3t Pl@ce one wr1t1ng.

Two words, btw. But they spell "Foodstore" as one word. And their stickers misspell Diversey.

It occurs to me that you first came to The Market Place after their significant improvements in response to TJ's opening. They are not as shitful as they used to be, and I am holding a grudge, but they are still not great. Also, Peapod is expensive as hell!

Pita Malört (Je55e), Sunday, 3 June 2012 22:47 (eleven years ago) link

Worth it.

Jeff, Sunday, 3 June 2012 23:02 (eleven years ago) link

That's not the point in question.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Sunday, 3 June 2012 23:19 (eleven years ago) link

I don't care.

Jeff, Sunday, 3 June 2012 23:30 (eleven years ago) link

Nick, did you enjoy my dream about you?

Is this a popular song? A client mentioned it to me last week and I've never heard it before.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Monday, 4 June 2012 00:25 (eleven years ago) link

i don't know that song.

that is an interesting dream, jesse.

i'm home sick today with some kind of shitty headache. i've had periodic bad headaches for most of my adult life but they seem to be getting worse as i get older, i used to be able to take a few ibuprofen and power through the day but this morning i just felt so gross that i had to call in. my mom gets migraines so i wonder if these are related - they're not as bad as her migraines but they're definitely worse than a standard headache.

we went up to lincoln square mayfest on saturday, expecting your standard neighborhood festival with fried food, music, games, etc. but nope it was basically 1,000 people standing in the blocked-off street in the direct sun drinking giant mugs of german beer. no music, no attractions, nothing but a dense crowd of drinkers. it was not fun getting the stroller through that.

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:09 (eleven years ago) link

prom nite

game of crones (La Lechera), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:21 (eleven years ago) link

If only there were some kind of, I don't know, foundation you could call about your headaches.

carl agatha, Monday, 4 June 2012 14:25 (eleven years ago) link

haaaaa

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:25 (eleven years ago) link

I think festivals in lincoln square are always like that i.e. they suck. midsommar fest is next weekend in andersonville which is usually fairly nice. xpost

Seriously though, that sounds awful and I hope you feel better.

carl agatha, Monday, 4 June 2012 14:26 (eleven years ago) link

i got some OTC migraine pills at CVS and they are helping

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:27 (eleven years ago) link

R was pretty excited about the mayfest on saturday and we went up there with the intent of checking it out, but upon seeing the crowd we turned south, went to Glunz's and Resi's Bierstube, and had our own little fest in their beer gardens complete with shade, seats, a cool breeze, and pretzels. There were some other people who had gotten the hell away from the fest this way too and we commiserated about how we'd hoped for something more.

xp - aspirin with caffeine? is there another type of otc migraine medication that went on the market recently? just wondering -- i haven't even considered otc as an option because i couldn't sleep with the caffeine in those.

game of crones (La Lechera), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:29 (eleven years ago) link

aspirin + acetaminophen + caffeine

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:30 (eleven years ago) link

right

migraines are a problem, i hope maybe you just had a caffeine headache!

game of crones (La Lechera), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:33 (eleven years ago) link

Yeh, I've always thought Mayfest was disppointing, too. T0m@s and friends enjoyed it b/c they like to polka.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:50 (eleven years ago) link

don't think it's migraines exactly, because migraines are pretty rare among men and they don't seem quite as debilitating as true migraines, but maybe something migraine-esque? there is mild nausea and light/sound sensitivity involved too. or maybe it is a caffeine headache and i'm just really wussy.

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 4 June 2012 15:06 (eleven years ago) link

No, caffeine headaches are not that bad.

carl agatha, Monday, 4 June 2012 15:25 (eleven years ago) link

if you want to talk about migraines offboard, i can do that (but i don't like to talk about medical things here if i can remember not to)

this is a little off topic but tbh i have always been a little confused about what "wussy" means. most of the time people call someone or themselves a wuss, they're being a bully, right? (to others or themselves). is anyone actually a verifiable wuss? wtf is a wuss?

game of crones (La Lechera), Monday, 4 June 2012 15:25 (eleven years ago) link

i figured it was like "nag" -- something people only call each other to negatively frame unwanted behavior, in this case "reminding"

game of crones (La Lechera), Monday, 4 June 2012 15:26 (eleven years ago) link

wuss is a portmanteau of wimp and pussy. It means somebody's being cowardly or weak.

carl agatha, Monday, 4 June 2012 15:27 (eleven years ago) link

I mean, it's not a great word bc of the association of female genitalia with weakness and the policing of masculinity etc etc etc but I don't think it's got the same issues as nag (which I agree w/ you 100% on that one).

carl agatha, Monday, 4 June 2012 15:28 (eleven years ago) link

i know what it means technically

i guess i was just thinking about what a completely subjective concept it is -- like any adjective, i guess, but relative weakness/strength is measured in so many different ways that it's just an interesting concept to me, i guess

game of crones (La Lechera), Monday, 4 June 2012 15:30 (eleven years ago) link

Nag anecdote: I used to post regularly on a well-known message board with a green background and somebody posted a list of requests that women involved in a social justice movement were making of men involved in the same movement, and one of them was "don't make us nag you" and of course the dudes on the green website went apeshit about "I never make my (woman in whatever relationship to poster) nag me, she just nags me! Nagging is something women chose to do!" So I posted an example of where someone could make someone nag someone (it is Dude's responsibility to take out the trash, and dude leaves the trash until the kitchen smells like a dump and there are flies everywhere, and Woman is like, "Hey, dude, can you take out the trash, please? It's overflowing and there's a raccoon blocking my way to the fridge." and the Dude is like "Don't nag me! God!" And this other guy that knew Jeff and I from the internet was like, "Ooooo, I guess Jeff is in trouble for not taking out the trash!"

I still hate that person to this day. The end.

carl agatha, Monday, 4 June 2012 15:34 (eleven years ago) link

xp yeah, wuss is a totally subjective concept.

Maybe it's like "lazy." I hate it when people call themselves "lazy" because decide to relax instead of work. I do that myself occasionally. It's like, wait. I am not lazy. I have multiple jobs and volunteer commitments and hobbies and if I have an hour of free time it is not lazy to sit on the couch and watch TV instead of being productive 24-7.

carl agatha, Monday, 4 June 2012 15:36 (eleven years ago) link

ME TOO

game of crones (La Lechera), Monday, 4 June 2012 15:39 (eleven years ago) link

Fucking Protestant work ethic has fucked us up. I had about an hour and 15 minutes before I had to be somewhere yesterday, and nothing that I could accomplish within that time, and was like "Maybe I should clean out this cabinet! Maybe I should start on this pile of mending! Maybe I should make up something to do that I don't really have to do at all!" Then I realized I was crazy and I read a book instead.

Hey, want to see an amazingly terrible website??? www.atlanticliquors.net

carl agatha, Monday, 4 June 2012 15:55 (eleven years ago) link

I feel like I should be doing more work, but not at the expense of watching tv. Priorities.

Jeff, Monday, 4 June 2012 16:00 (eleven years ago) link

OMG! that website!!!

!!!!! lololol

In one of my literary criticism classes we learned that the wussy came from the words "weak" and "pussy."

Pita Malört (Je55e), Monday, 4 June 2012 16:01 (eleven years ago) link

Besides the intro song, what I love most so far is that you can zoom in on the low-res images of bottles of liquor and beach goers.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Monday, 4 June 2012 16:03 (eleven years ago) link

I didn't know it had sound! I'm sorry! I should have guessed, though.

I also like how when you click a link there is a jump cut animation of cross hairs.

I was trying to get an idea of their beer selection bc my pops wanted to know what to get us and I'm not sure which breweries have distribution in DE. The website did not help.

carl agatha, Monday, 4 June 2012 16:13 (eleven years ago) link

It's sad bc it's a great liquor store but if I didn't already know that, I'd write them off as complete bozos based on their website. Ahhh Delaware. Clawing your way into the modern age, yet doing it all wrong.

carl agatha, Monday, 4 June 2012 16:16 (eleven years ago) link

Oh, I knew I'd seen crosshairs, but unfortunately they're not the cursor on the zoom feature on the beach pic.

You absolutely have to listen to the intro song. To the tune of Air Supply's "Every Woman in the World":

It's such a crazy world now
It can drag you down then you run out Jim Beam
So I drive through the night to the liquor store lights
I can't believe what I see/When I shop at those other places
There's no love around me

You're the greatest liquor store in the world to me
My adult fantasy

Ends with "(AtlanticLiquorsRoute1RehobothnexttoWal-Mart.)"

game of crones (La Lechera), Monday, 4 June 2012 16:30 (eleven years ago) link

1) is it still happening
2) if so, where
3) let me suggest 6pm somewhere on the red line

game of crones (La Lechera), Monday, 4 June 2012 16:30 (eleven years ago) link

Sheffield's? It can be a little bro-tastic, but it is big and they have good beer and it's a block north of the Belmont stop, which is convenient for Red and Brown Liners alike.

Never translate Dutch (jaymc), Monday, 4 June 2012 16:46 (eleven years ago) link

I am willing to accept the first available answer to that question, so there you have it. Sheffield's. Is this the place we all met a long time ago to eat appetizers? That suddenly seems like a very long time ago.

game of crones (La Lechera), Monday, 4 June 2012 16:51 (eleven years ago) link

Sheffield's is on Sheffield, 1 block north of Belmont http://goo.gl/maps/J0HD

Pita Malört (Je55e), Monday, 4 June 2012 16:57 (eleven years ago) link

Sheffield's also has a big beer garden iirc.

carl agatha, Monday, 4 June 2012 17:02 (eleven years ago) link

Looks like they have plenty of food too. Good!

game of crones (La Lechera), Monday, 4 June 2012 17:05 (eleven years ago) link

The food is great. Some of the best BBQ I've had outside of NC, including decent Eastern Carolina sauce.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Monday, 4 June 2012 17:11 (eleven years ago) link

Oh hai, just checking in, here. That area near the Belmont stop is one of the few I'm fairly familiar withso that works for me. I have a little bit of a cold but anticipate feeling a-ok by tomorrow pm.

In an airport, Chicago-bound by way of Toronto.

re: being productive/work ethic/etc.

sometimes someone is sick/headachy/unwell or whatev and can't get something done that they intended, and they'll say they're "useless". and i take umbrage to that. rather a lot.

so i've actually said, if you think you're useless for not completing some simple task, i can't imagine what you think of me. because health probs prevent me from doing things sometimes, you see. so i find this insulting.

and i've been argued with about this. not by someone saying i'm useless (thankfully, i suppose). but insisting that THEY are useless because they *should* be able to do wtfe, and arrrgh.

or, jenny otm "Fucking Protestant work ethic has fucked us up."

ha meanwhile i'm sitting around the house feeling guilty because my headache went away and i didn't go in to work the afternoon. why am i feeling guilty for taking a full sick day on a day when i was sick, and i never use sick days?
