He was offside when Modric(?) played it in though

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:31 (eleven years ago) link

not quite a defending masterclass, this game

geezargh butlargh (DJ Mencap), Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:31 (eleven years ago) link

wouldn't call that offside

pandemic, Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:33 (eleven years ago) link

he was offside when the ball was first played in and i'd say he gained advantage from it

I just interviewed the linesman who had to call that a week ago about the Euro's, he's from around here.

croatia have been good last 20 mins, modric has moved further up the pitch

That aggressive high-fiving from the Croatian subs was a bit naff.

I think Tyldesley must be stationed in Ukraine - this is Drury's second commentary of the tournament. Clive's probably getting wheeled out for England with, for me, Andy Townsend, to be fair. Trying to think who ITV's fourth commentator will be - they've drafted in Jon Champion, but he was on earlier.

Will say this for them, though - the one thing BBC clearly have over them this tournament is the option to switch to 5 Live commentary on red button. And even then, you've still got a better-than average chance of Alan Green.

William Bloody Swygart, Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:36 (eleven years ago) link

Ireland clearly have one attacking tactic and one dour one, and we switched after equalising, for no sensible reason whatsoever.

I don't think I've ever read an interview with a linesman before, sounds like Frost/Nixon

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:40 (eleven years ago) link

you'll need to do a follow-up on that one now LBI

Ludo, Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:43 (eleven years ago) link

Ah no, it wasn't offside; I didn't realise there'd been about three Irish touches, I thought it was a straight deflection.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:44 (eleven years ago) link

Is Chris Kamara in every advert nowadays?

Pacific Trash Vortex (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:47 (eleven years ago) link

his fees are probably quite reasonable.

Irish tv pointing to a v subtle foul on ward for the second goal. Maybe a case to be made.

Amused by Robbie Keane berating the ref in the tunnel. Never change Robbie.

Lovely goal, except the comedy ending

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:53 (eleven years ago) link

mandzukic has played better tonight than i've ever seen him play in the bundesliga

pandemic, Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:54 (eleven years ago) link

This looks like a whipping in the making now.

Matt DC, Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:54 (eleven years ago) link

Ireland need to cling on these next couple of mins

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:54 (eleven years ago) link

did drury just try to provide comfort by pointing out ireland got 3 against andorra?

pandemic, Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:57 (eleven years ago) link

Cox and Walters on. Would have preferred to see McClean.

Temporarily Famous In The Czech Republic (ShariVari), Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:59 (eleven years ago) link

HO WBEAUTIFUL IS THE GENTLYFALLINGBLOOD? (Le Bateau Ivre), Sunday, 10 June 2012 20:19 (eleven years ago) link

beautiful stuff

pandemic, Sunday, 10 June 2012 20:22 (eleven years ago) link

Croatia look beautiful in this game but if Italy play as directly and physically as they did against Spain then they'll comfortably beat them. As will Spain.

Matt DC, Sunday, 10 June 2012 20:24 (eleven years ago) link

yeah these CBs will struggle big time vs italy/spain. Think croatia will go all out vs italy next up. It'll be a cracker.

pandemic, Sunday, 10 June 2012 20:26 (eleven years ago) link

I think I just saw Deems, dressed up as a Leprechaun... :-/

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 10 June 2012 20:27 (eleven years ago) link

lol

pandemic, Sunday, 10 June 2012 20:28 (eleven years ago) link

Spain are quite capable of not winning against Croatia imo, though I'd fancy them against Ireland

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 10 June 2012 20:29 (eleven years ago) link

Dunno, I've been surprised by how many opportunities ireland have created tonight. Croatia aren't that good i don't think.

pandemic, Sunday, 10 June 2012 20:31 (eleven years ago) link

Croatia aren't that good at the back.

Matt DC, Sunday, 10 June 2012 20:34 (eleven years ago) link

That's a pretty shitty way to lose. I thought Ireland did mostly okay, but there's not much point when you give away goals like that.

Trap out

Number None, Sunday, 10 June 2012 21:30 (eleven years ago) link

So disappointed with how poorly we played. I could handle the defeat if I thought they played to their ability but few players came out of that with any credit. O'Shea, Duff and Keane were particularly poor.

Andrews was good.

Cox on for McGeady was inexplicable and had a negative effect.

We didn't even defend well. That said all three goals had elements of freakishness to them.

ooooiiiioooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaoooooh un - bi - leevable! (LocalGarda), Sunday, 10 June 2012 22:23 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, we were shite but we were also hard done by. I'm assuming Trap just took McClean to the tournament to merk the lot of us

Number None, Sunday, 10 June 2012 22:28 (eleven years ago) link

They didn't look like they had the organisation to make anti-football work against the best passing sides or the players to really do anything else for long periods of a match. Duff looked the most composed but rarely saw much of the ball. Andrews can't be faulted for effort but just doesn't have the quality to do any real damage.

At this stage, i'm not sure what Trap would have to lose by just trying to fit McGeady and McClean in the same team and using pace to unsettle Italy and Spain. They're too ponderous at the moment to make long-ball football pay off.

Temporarily Famous In The Czech Republic (ShariVari), Sunday, 10 June 2012 22:39 (eleven years ago) link

ROI weren't too great at the back, can't put much blame on Givens like everyone in the pub was doing though. Croatia had awesome attacking strength. Dickheads in the crowd once again almost ruining a game this tourno.

I'm watching Cheers, which features an Irish bartender named "Malone"

Iniesta unplayable according to Colin Murray

Number None, Sunday, 10 June 2012 22:50 (eleven years ago) link

Unplayable in what sense? thought he was brilliant tonight

PSOD (Ste), Sunday, 10 June 2012 22:53 (eleven years ago) link

unplayable means impossible to play/defend against.

tell it to my arse (jim in glasgow), Sunday, 10 June 2012 22:55 (eleven years ago) link
