how can a quarterback be so talented and throw so many bad passes? it's a mystery for the ages. in the playoffs he is truly mister near-miss. the acrobatics these guys have to do just to catch the ball is staggering. and, yet, there are other games where he is like a friggin' laser. so weird.

HE WAS ROBBED (on that throw to curtis, anyway).

during the 1st quarter, though, donovan blew every opportunity tho'

Yeah, seriously. WTF is going on?

Mordy, Friday, 14 August 2009 21:00 (fourteen years ago) link

He's not starting, I'm assuming. So why the fuck are we spending money on him?

Mordy, Friday, 14 August 2009 21:00 (fourteen years ago) link

IGGLES!

i'm pretty much in the "don't care" boat at this point w/r/t vick - i doubt he'll even play really unless we need him.

¿pr que? (k3vin k.), Friday, 14 August 2009 21:04 (fourteen years ago) link

I have to imagine Andy Reid knows from people who have done bad things and need forgiveness. So there's probably at least a bit of charity in this signing, since I can't imagine Vick is going to play much (assuming McNabb'ster stays healthy).

Mordy, Friday, 14 August 2009 21:06 (fourteen years ago) link

they'd be retarded for not figuring out how to get him on the field given the stress and publicity cost of signing him.

call all destroyer, Friday, 14 August 2009 21:07 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah i never imagined, from a PR perspective, that the iggs would be the team to take him like this, but it's not like they're making him the starter. can't see too much of an uproar over dude holding a clipboard

¿pr que? (k3vin k.), Friday, 14 August 2009 21:09 (fourteen years ago) link

like mordy i'm a bit surprised we spent this money on him, but as of last year kolb belonged in the arena league

¿pr que? (k3vin k.), Friday, 14 August 2009 21:11 (fourteen years ago) link

Keep in mind, we also signed TO.

Mordy, Friday, 14 August 2009 21:13 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah im with you but owens was in the prime of his career; only thing vick's game-ready for is serving lunch at team dinners

"can't see too much of an uproar over dude holding a clipboard"

um, except every game on the road will be a relentless hatefest with the p.a. system blaring who let the dogs out all night long. i'm guessing the field will either be littered with milkbone biscuits or dog collars. what does that do to morale team-wise?

(espn was saying this morning that they should put mcnabb AND vick on the field at the same time just to scare the shit out of people.)

I am basically gonna watch every eagles game just to be there when this happens. I think this is kinda cool tbh, but I'm not a dedicated eagles fan.

everybody's overrating this. some fuckin peta weirdos are gonna protest, vick's going to break something for a td in like week 9, and no one's going to remember what a "controversial" signing it was.

my little sister -- who REALLY hates michael vick and loves dogs -- is pressuring me to quit on the Eagles because of the Vick signing.

Always fun to watch Eagles fans get gassed off of some new player because you know they'll hate him in a year.

from Peter King

And one league source just told me something that surprised me. “Nnamdi wanted to play in Philadelphia,” the source said. More than New York, where Rex Ryan was planning to make Asomugha and Revis his defensive centerpieces? Yes, the source said.

The contract is stunning — just $12 million a year for a player who made $28 million over the last two years and was the hottest player on the free agent market. So the source appears to be spot on: Clearly Asomugha would have been offered more by at least one other team. The $12 million annual figure is what the Panthers paid defensive end Charles Johnson this week. Clearly there was something enticing about this Eagles bid, possibly the ability to go to a team with the chance to win the Super Bowl from the NFC.

Clearly there's something that is making these talents want to play in Philadelphia. Maybe time to retire the 'shitty fans' meme?

When did Asomugha all of a sudden become talked about like he was the best player in the NFL? I'd never even heard of him until he hit the free agent market.

of course ... at least part of the reason why ballplayers sign with the Yankees (OK, the fat paycheck is more important ... but both make that team's/city's asshole fans more tolerable).

xp I can't imagine he felt he'd have a better shot at a ring with Iggles than Jets -- tho I suppose it's possible.

Since about 4 years ago when every offensive coordinator in the league decided that they were never going to throw to his half of the field anymore.

so it appears. apparently he's too expensive for us

Mordy, Saturday, 30 July 2011 22:25 (twelve years ago) link

cap casualties:

weaver - 2.4m
hanson - 870,000
bunkley - 700,000
parker - 3.5m
total: 6.5m

only way asante is traded if roseman is wowed with a starter better than Justice or 1st rd. pick + LB. asante would free up 6.3m this season, 7.5m for 2012.
