i think England will beat Ukraine though

Number None, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:16 (eleven years ago) link

Goal of the tournament so far - the Balotelli one? Theo?

send him to outer space, to hug another face (NickB), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:18 (eleven years ago) link

hoping he drops Carroll and plays Rooney off Wellbeck. Ukraine's backline looks pretty porous but our midfield is still o_O. tbf, having Young on the left and Milner on the right mightn't be as limiting with Rooney who won't rely on having proper wingers the way Carroll does.

Mexès Coleslaw Massacre (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:20 (eleven years ago) link

definitely not Walcott. It was a deflection/fluke

Number None, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:20 (eleven years ago) link

gott - Ronaldo's second v Netherlands

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:21 (eleven years ago) link

Just trying to think of shots from outside the box that have actually gone in. xp

Mario's was v. nice, that second Gomez goal against the Netherlands was pretty tasty too.

Mexès Coleslaw Massacre (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:21 (eleven years ago) link

I think i liked Di Natale against Spain the best. Or Ronaldo the other night

Number None, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:22 (eleven years ago) link

The Polish one v Russia was a screamer

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:23 (eleven years ago) link

Kuba's for Poland vs Russia was a good thump.
Gomez first vs Holland my fav, tho RVP/VDV both got nice goals this tourney, shame they didn't get more of them mind.

pandemic, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:23 (eleven years ago) link

The Polish's guy's left-footer on the run was very sweet.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:25 (eleven years ago) link

Debating whether to bother watching the games live tonight. I've been having to split my sleep in 2 sections for the duration of the Euros so far and it's really not working. Feel like tonights games will be routine. Still I'd hate not to witness bonkers events live should bonkers events happen.

pandemic, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:26 (eleven years ago) link

I liked wellbeck's flying aerial backheel, that's gotta be top 10. xp

give me back my 200 dollars (NotEnough), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:27 (eleven years ago) link

England are winning in two categories though - best header and best improvisation

Number None, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:28 (eleven years ago) link

There's potential for a French and/or English meltdown. Recommended viewing tonight imo.

give me back my 200 dollars (NotEnough), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:29 (eleven years ago) link

Given wins best header surely?
xp

pandemic, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:29 (eleven years ago) link

haven't we suffered enough?

Number None, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:30 (eleven years ago) link

Ireland are going to sweep the "worst" categories tbfttl

Number None, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:32 (eleven years ago) link

Nah that's Holland's to win.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:38 (eleven years ago) link

If this were a 24-team tourney you'd only be ninth-worst atbf

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:38 (eleven years ago) link

thumbs up to holland imo, did exactly what they're there at tournaments to do, it's just unfortunate they kept it relatively in-house is all

r|t|c, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:56 (eleven years ago) link

I'd thought the Italians might be this tournament's big team to implode, given the Serie A situation, but they clearly don't give a fuck.

Our work sweepstake has an prize for 'worst team' as well as winner and runner-up. Not looked at the stats yet, but Ireland lost all three and conceeded more than the Dutch, right?

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 11:58 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, -8gd v -3gd. Ignoring stats, I think Holland were more pathetic, though.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 12:02 (eleven years ago) link

Goal of the tournament so far:
1) Polish one on the break v Russia
2) Balotelli overhead kick
3) Welbeck incredible trailing foot thing

Tonight:
France 1 Sweden 1
Ukraine 3 England 3

Nessun Biscotto (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 12:20 (eleven years ago) link

One less goal to Ukraine and I agree.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 12:33 (eleven years ago) link

England will beat Ukraine tonight - crushing underdogs' dreams is the one thing England do reliably well. I think France may well lose to Sweden though; I don't think they'd be particularly fussed about facing Italy rather than Spain.

My dad's in Kiev for the Italy QF, I feel it ought to be against England tbh.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 12:34 (eleven years ago) link

Pav's goal against the Czechs was pretty sweet.

Michael B Higgins (Michael B), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 12:47 (eleven years ago) link

crushing underdogs' England fans' dreams is the one thing England do reliably well

gonna send him to outer space, to hug another face (NickB), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 12:49 (eleven years ago) link

if england lose is it possible for us to still go through?

PSOD (Ste), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 12:57 (eleven years ago) link

Only if France lose by 2 goals more than England do, or lose by one goal more but end the group with less goals scored than England

Dunphy: “There’s another feature of today that is unique, it’s an honour for Liam to be sitting in between two former Millwall footballers – and it’s not often two former Millwall footballers appear on television.”

Sadlier: “Privileged.”

Brady: “Where do Millwall ex players usually appear? In the dock?”

Maloney: “We’d like to distance ourself from those remarks – and so would Liam.”

brady's best ever zing? can't wait for video of this to emerge.

ooooiiiioooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaoooooh un - bi - leevable! (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 12:59 (eleven years ago) link

I was wondering if you were referring to Brady or Dunphy as 'The Master' when it appeared in the other thread.

pandemic, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 13:01 (eleven years ago) link

Sweden give even less of a fuck than France, especially with Ibra saying he really doesn't care too much about the group now they're knocked out. Schevchenko is done, although I'll never underestimate England's love of basic defensive screw-ups.

England 2-1 Ukraine
France 2-0 Sweden

I'd thought the Italians might be this tournament's big team to implode, given the Serie A situation, but they clearly don't give a fuck.

Last time something like this happened Italy went on to win the World Cup. Corruption scandals are clearly good for Italian football.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 13:05 (eleven years ago) link

also Rossi returning from his ban to be a hero. The lads there's a weight off their shoulders now that it's all out in the open.

Merdeyeux, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 13:08 (eleven years ago) link

there's always a corruption scandal in italian football.

mizzell, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 13:10 (eleven years ago) link

yah, it's not as if the national team only performs well in the aftermath of a corruption scandal it's more that going into practically every tournament there is a corruption scandal.

pandemic, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 13:19 (eleven years ago) link

I thought this one might be SO BIG that it'd break the camel's back, though. But clearly not!

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 13:34 (eleven years ago) link

They can't win it anyway, cos Cassano's wasn't born on the day they last won it, or something. (Didn't he say some shit about the 2006 WC win regardcuing that? That it was his destiny?)

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 13:35 (eleven years ago) link

he's born the day after the 82 win iirc

sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 13:55 (eleven years ago) link

Aha.

What's he thinking in there?

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 15:45 (eleven years ago) link

So there are actually people looking forward to seeing Roo-ful on the pitch tonight? Ugh.

I hope Hodgson sticks to his guns. Carroll (cunt) scored, Welbeck scored. Why bring in fucking Rooney? I for one can't stand the sight of the guy.

Gutted for Croatia, that Modric pass midway through the second half was beautiful. Someone should sign him.

^^ This so OTM. Modric played some sprawling football last night. That pass out of which [croationname] should have scored was orgasmic.

44 games and 35 goals this season, 28 in 74 for England, scares the shit out of opposition defenders, strong, great technique, great vision and awareness, works his heart out for the team, best player in the country, that kind of thing.

xposts.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 17:14 (eleven years ago) link

No I know Nick. But you know, he sucks.

Don't mind me, but he's the Robben of England, the rotten apple imho.

I wish there could exist and England without Terry and Rooney. It could have been so nice.
