Pot's decriminalized, we might get a city-wide bike share program... We're like one vegan cafe away from being Portland.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 20:31 (eleven years ago) link

there's a vegan cafe like a block away from my house

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 27 June 2012 20:34 (eleven years ago) link

We'd have to stop vaccinating so much to get to Portland level.

Jeff, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 20:34 (eleven years ago) link

our metal scene is healthy, but we're still no portland

HOT ENOUGH OUT THERE FOR YOU?

carl agatha, Thursday, 28 June 2012 19:33 (eleven years ago) link

But seriously, I had another song dream last night. This time I actually got up and went to the bathroom and sang the song out loud so I wouldn't forget it when I woke up and sure enough, it's gone.

It was kind of Modest Mouse-esque with a call and response verse that switched back and forth between falsetto and regular singing. It was something about moving to LA.

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Thursday, 28 June 2012 21:03 (eleven years ago) link

What? Cape? Are you a super hero (I know the answer to that question is "Yes").

carl agatha, Thursday, 28 June 2012 21:12 (eleven years ago) link

I am a druid. Imma put up a picture soon, hold on...

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Thursday, 28 June 2012 21:13 (eleven years ago) link

!!

Funnily enough, I am actually dressing up like the mighty Thor tomorrow for a children's program at the library.

but a druid is more impressive. Perhaps I should have insisted that I dress up as http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20050405044761/marveldatabase/images/0/03/Anthony_Druid_(Earth-616).jpg

omg! I find a person's willingness to look silly in the service of entertaining children to be so f'n endearing. I am endeared!

carl agatha, Thursday, 28 June 2012 21:19 (eleven years ago) link

I'm glad I've made you endeared. I'll post pics if I can find the courage.

A+

i invented steampunk (askance johnson), Thursday, 28 June 2012 21:49 (eleven years ago) link

LL is that an everyday cape or for an occasion?

Je55e, Thursday, 28 June 2012 23:19 (eleven years ago) link

i guess it's an everyday cape? that's just the hood, i still have to sew the cape to the lining and sew the lining to the hood. and fix the closure.

Where do all these people on my bus wearing shorts work?? I assume some work at Groupon - a few I know for sure do - but others go to buildings near my office. I imagine they are creatives at hip ad and marketing and tech firms. Whatever the facts, the Halsted bus is full of shorts.

Je55e, Friday, 29 June 2012 13:43 (eleven years ago) link

it's casual friday!

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 29 June 2012 14:51 (eleven years ago) link

based on what people wear to work during non-casual days, i would not be surprised if they were wearing shorts to work on casual friday. i'm wearing an untucked polo shirt

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 29 June 2012 14:51 (eleven years ago) link

I'm wearing shorts. Other men here are wearing shorts too. Yesterday the air conditioning broke at about 3 PM. I was glad I was wearing shorts.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Friday, 29 June 2012 15:13 (eleven years ago) link

The shorts-wearing people I'm talking about wear shorts all days of the week. I noticed today that a few were wearing flip-flops, too.

Je55e, Friday, 29 June 2012 15:15 (eleven years ago) link

I could totally do that if I felt like it.

Feels like we've talked about this before.

Carl and Je55e you need to see this Carrie ripoff tv movie called THE SPELL
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmPuzCcWlN0&feature=related

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Friday, 29 June 2012 15:47 (eleven years ago) link

it is on netflix streaming too

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Friday, 29 June 2012 15:47 (eleven years ago) link

haha The Thnig is already on the (our) case about watching this. Also: the "this" logo in the corner is all the evidence I need that The Spell is a quality movie.

carl agatha, Friday, 29 June 2012 15:48 (eleven years ago) link

You will like it, I assure you.

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Friday, 29 June 2012 15:49 (eleven years ago) link

1. I started reading Bring Up the Bodies, book two of Hillary Mantel's Wolf Hall trilogy and it is fantastic. If you liked Wolf Hall, I highly highly recommend this book.

2. Mostly for askance johnson, but maybe not - the old time horror radio show podcast that I like presented an episode of a program The Black Mass that is an adaptation of Kafka's, "A Country Doctor" and it is really weird. I mean, the story is really weird, and adapting it into a radio play is really really weird, IMO.

carl agatha, Friday, 29 June 2012 18:37 (eleven years ago) link

hmmm, I'll check out the kafka thing, though I remember reading that story ~10 years ago, and finding it totally impenetrable.

It's just about Thor time.

i invented steampunk (askance johnson), Friday, 29 June 2012 19:12 (eleven years ago) link

It's no less impenetrable as a radio play. I'm not really sure I'm recommending it, to tell you the truth. I just thought it was an odd choice for a radio adaptation.

THOR TIME!!! :D

description of thor costume: request made

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Friday, 29 June 2012 19:22 (eleven years ago) link

I also meant to say also that the radio play is an almost verbatim read of the story from what I can tell. It's not like hearing the murmurs of the villagers in the background while the doctor ponders the meaning of the patient's wounds or wonders what happened to his horses adds a whole lot of clarity.

carl agatha, Friday, 29 June 2012 19:25 (eleven years ago) link

i've been reading these gillian flynn mystery novels. i don't know if they're good exactly but they're pretty addictive, i've read two of them in two days each. also pretty dark.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 29 June 2012 19:26 (eleven years ago) link
