Sit ups and torso strengthening is good for lower back support, though. Immediate benefit #1.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:18 (seventeen years ago) link

i don't think i can afford tt tonight, i waited on the platform for 32 goddamn minutes waiting for a train this morning and had to take a cab for the final leg of my journey.

Sit ups and torso strengthening is good for lower back support, though. Immediate benefit #1.

They can also put a lot of stress on your lower back and can lead to injury if done improperly, which many people seem to do because doing sit ups suck and they are stretching and straining to complete their ab classes. If forced, I'd rather do crunches

Jeff. (Jeff), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, I didn't know we were differentiating between sit-ups and crunches. What's the official difference?

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:42 (seventeen years ago) link

I weighed myself on Sunday for the first time in a long time. It made me sad. I could lose 20 pounds and still have a "normal" BMI, which also makes me sad.

I go to the gym. I was thinking of doing sit ups every day. Maybe I should do jumping jacks instead? What's the consensus on jumping jacks?

I'm Fuzzy (coco), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:46 (seventeen years ago) link

i am actually frightened at the thought of weighing myself. luckily i do not own a scale.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:47 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm going to guess that I outweigh Kevin by...let's see. Thirty pounds. Possibly more.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:51 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, Sarah, don't be sad! You're not out of shape!

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:52 (seventeen years ago) link

i'm going to guess that i outheight laurel by... let's see. six inches. possibly more.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Did Regular Roundups ever line us up by weight? I hope not.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Jumping jacks: hard on your knees, all that off-center force being applied. Suggest walking or eliptical, instead. Also, please please do not be sad about your BMI; considering that I am technically "obese" I don't recommend taking it seriously for one second.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:57 (seventeen years ago) link

has anyone heard from amanda? is she back or when does she get back?

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:59 (seventeen years ago) link

i just calculated my bmi and i could gain 20 lbs. and still be underweight.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:00 (seventeen years ago) link

I thought you just said you were scared of weighing yourself?

I do the eliptical. I was just trying to think of something I could do to exercise at home in the mornings, other than walking which I do already.

I'm Fuzzy (coco), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:09 (seventeen years ago) link

i guessed on the weight and put in what i weighed when i was last weighed. which is (i'm guessing) off by 5 to 10 lbs now.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Are there multiple Kevins here?

Sarah, srlsy, you are slim, tall, and beautiful so don't fear the BMI calculator.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:13 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, leave that to us short and fatties! : D

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:15 (seventeen years ago) link

BMI will forevermore be known as ButtMunch International.

I'm Fuzzy (coco), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:16 (seventeen years ago) link

i still think of the mobbed-up waste hauling company based out of jersey when i see BMI. i think they became Waste Management after some RICO activity. i'd wager they're still mobbed up.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:22 (seventeen years ago) link

If forced, I'd rather do crunches

That's actually what I do. Fuck a full sit-up.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Great. Now I'm sick. Woke up with a fever and a sore throat.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Somebody please take care of me! I want soup and crackers.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:35 (seventeen years ago) link

I think that's BFI, isn't it, Kevin? Browning-Ferris? Unless BFI (in the midwest) were BMI wannabees.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:41 (seventeen years ago) link

BMI Waste Management rings a bell to this Mid-Atlanticer.

Product recommendation time: I want to buy a thermos so I can bring coffee with me from home and save the expense and environmental impact of buying coffee at coffee shops. It must be large enough for a coffee addict but not so large as to become prohibitively heavy. I got one at Target a couple years ago and it leaked everywhere. Any suggestions?

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:43 (seventeen years ago) link

But seriously. Chicago Kevin != Otto Midnight, no?

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Kevin is Otto.

Where's my soup, bitches?

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:45 (seventeen years ago) link

no, jenny, i think ez's right, i can see the BFI logo now that i think of it. though BMI sounds right. i don't know. what do i know? nothing.

i got a kick-ass coffee maker for xmas so i'm bringing my old, non-kick ass one in to the office.

xpost- yes, it's me.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:46 (seventeen years ago) link

hey, who the hell is that guy?

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:47 (seventeen years ago) link

Tell me about your new kick ass coffee maker. I would like a new kick ass coffee maker so I can fill my as yet unfound kick ass thermos with kick ass coffee.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:51 (seventeen years ago) link

Did anyone watch the Bill Plympton dog movie that I posted? That thing makes me larf and larf. Especially the addition of Ronald McDonald.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:54 (seventeen years ago) link

well, it's comparitively kick-ass. compared to the one i bought at target two years ago for $9.99. the new one is a 12-cup instead of a four cup, has a gold filter instead of the plastic basket dealie, is programmable, has a built in water filter, gives notification when you need to decalcify it, is adjustable so that it will brew stronger coffee or if you're brewing less than 6 cups, and the heat plate temperature is adjustable. but my favorite part is that it makes great tasting coffee.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Kenan - I was grossed out by the nose hair one so I didn't watch any more. Did he make a short about a guy who drops toast on the floor butter side down and eats it anyway?

Wow... that's a fancy pants coffee pot! Mine is like half-assed fancy. It's programmable and has an adjustable heater thing but makes shit coffee. I'd rather have no fancies and good coffee. I have a French press but it isn't big enough and the coffee gets cold by the time I get to it.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:10 (seventeen years ago) link

i have a couple of french presses that i do not use anymore.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Maybe you should give them to me and I'll just make three pots at a time and learn to enjoy cold coffee.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:16 (seventeen years ago) link

The dog one is not gross.

God I want to eat barbecue in Texas again.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:34 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh man, Smoque! I heard a raving reccomendation of that place from a guy who knows his food. I am generally distrustful of places with trendily-spelled names like that, but it sounds super great. Smoque for brisket, Honey 1 for teh pork... TIME TO GET FATT

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:36 (seventeen years ago) link

I think the last thing I had in Chicago that called itself barbecue was at Smoke Daddy. That place is bullshit. When your brisket doesn't have a smoke ring in in any bigger than the thickness of your toenail and your pulled pork is actually chopped and maimed pork, you can just fuck right off.

(Have I ranted about this before? I can never keep track.)

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Yes, but you're right, that place blows.

What was the place that had a kiosk at Intonation last year that served, oh my god, THE BEST pulled pork sandwich I've ever had? I can't remember the name of the place, but I would go out of my way for it if I could. I have had dreams about that sandwich. I'm not even kidding.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:42 (seventeen years ago) link

now I am hungry for brisket+Lancashire cheese+iced coffee. none of which I have at hand.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:43 (seventeen years ago) link

i like smoke daddy because it is within walking distance of my house. a bowl of chili and a burger at smoke daddy followed by drinks at gold star is a favorite mellow friday.

i can't wait to go back to memphis in 2 weeks because it means a trip here.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:43 (seventeen years ago) link

I want all that, too. And a side of macaroni and cheese. And beer.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Why do you keep going to Memphis, Kevin? Or am I confused due to your jet setting lifestyle?

what is that?
Dan: hippy organic natural etc mac & cheese
me: oh!!!
Dan: http://www.annies.com/
me: i COMPLETELY misread that, and i reread it 3x!
Dan: go ahead, post this transcript on the thread
[smile]
me: i was totally already doing that. are you mocking me?
Dan: hahaha
I wanted to do it with the first sentence

I guess you mean you have soymilk at home or no milk, John?

Yeah, soy milk. I only ever use milk for cereal (where I have to actually taste it), so it doesn't make sense to have regular milk around, too.

I liked mac & cheese growing up but my mom also used to make tuna casserole, which was basically mac & cheese with tuna fish in it, and to me that is like the worst food in the world. I think I would rather eat human flesh than tuna casserole. Seriously. It was one of those foods where my parents wouldn't let me leave the table until I ate it so I would sit there in the dark by myself refusing to eat my cold tuna fish casserole.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 19:23 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't want to be self-serving, but I'm thinking about creating a new thread, partially for this reason.

GEAUX BEARS. (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 19:23 (seventeen years ago) link

My mom used to make tuna casserole too, but it was bad ass: penne, some kind of white cheesy sauce, bread crumbs on top, lots of onions and celery... Mmmmm.
