Maybe Cersei. She's the one whose fate I'm most curious about.

The Samwell and Jaime definitely improve as the series goes on, while I thought Tyrion and Arya dropped off into interminable in the last book.
Voted Davos.

Sansa all the way. Everyone else has at least had one "ugh, fuck this" when I saw the name at the chapter heading. I used to love Tyrion as much, but ADWD and his constant whining over "where do whores go" ruined that. But it's ASOIAF and I never give up on a POV character.

I like Sansa's story but dislike the extent to which GRRM shows her simpering nature to pretty much be her sole characteristic

i'll go with jaime i guess. fav non-POV is stannis
― Black_vegeta (Hungry4Ass), Tuesday, 3 July 2012 17:26 (eleven years ago) link
Jaime is the most interesting one by far imo especially since his ultimate role in the story is the most unclear right now of all the major chars
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 3 July 2012 17:32 (eleven years ago) link
Davos is my favorite though but i'm assuming this is voting for most interesting chapters and not fav character
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 3 July 2012 17:34 (eleven years ago) link
ya jaime was the first character i was like, "whoa, dude is doing something really different here" (post hand)

would vote for the hound if poss
Jaime's reaction to Cersei's note at the end of FFC is one of the biggest 'YES!' moments. The guy comes a long way in that book.

― gyac, Tuesday, 3 July 2012 17:49 (eleven years ago) link
I think it's pretty easy to misread a good bit of Sansa's story as simpering, partially because of how her internal monologue works and partially because the ways her strength expresses itself are very passive compared to pretty much all of her siblings, especially Arya

The chapter with Arya and Littlefinger at the Eyrie at the end of SoS is one of the best.

i do think the way sansa is written reflects poorly on GRRM, she doesnt have a very distinct voice and is written so... leeringly
― Black_vegeta (Hungry4Ass), Tuesday, 3 July 2012 17:56 (eleven years ago) link
^^^ OTM, it wasn't until the HBO show that I even really started to feel sympathy or a real connection to her character beyond a general "no one should have to go through that" default empathy
― I see you, Pineapple Teef (DJP), Tuesday, 3 July 2012 17:57 (eleven years ago) link
I'd say that quite a lot of the "simpering" has been knocked out of her by the time she's seen her beloved father beheaded in front of her by her betrothed.
The point is, she went in with 0 political knowledge, after being raised to be a noblewoman by her parents, and one who would make a suitable marriage, being the oldest girl. In a situation where she was a hostage who could be beaten and abused at will, keeping her head down and going along with things is the way she survived, until she could get out.
― gyac, Tuesday, 3 July 2012 18:01 (eleven years ago) link
Plus, she was a 12 yr old raised to believe in the chivalric stories from the Age of Heroes. It irritates me when I see her called simpering or dumb.

Jeez listen to all you Save A Sansa's. She's boring and irritating.

No Asha? I must confess I could never stand the Danaerys chapters and had to force myself to slog through them. Also, in the back of my mind, I never quite got over the loss of Eddard as major POV. But he's hardly my favorite. I think I'm voting Arya over Davos (great character though a little dull), Jaime (who got really interesting for a while and then not so much), and Tyrion (who really dropped off a cliff in ADWD). Honorable mention to some favorite non-POV characters that I always want to see more of- the Hound, Dondarrion/Thoros, Coldhands, Tormund, Mya/Gendry/Edric, the Blackfish, the Sand Snakes, Jaqen etc etc. Definitely thought the Reek chapters were excessive revenge-fantasy type stuff, like we're either supposed to feel good seeing him sunk so low, or be surprised that we feel bad for him now.

Eddard doin' pretty good to get a vote, given his early exit.
