G.A.G. is not the best acronym. For anything.

Way worse than BMT.

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Friday, 6 July 2012 18:21 (eleven years ago) link

green apple sounds good. lots of condescending comments on their yelp page about people eating at mcdonalds and popeyes in the same food court.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 6 July 2012 18:21 (eleven years ago) link

It's on the second floor of the food court, so I never actually noticed it until I started using the Skyway this past winter to get to Wow Bao.

I remember my very first Subway visit too. Here in Salisbury NC in late August 1988. Turkey, I think. Had a summer cold.

The cat sitters are sendings lots of texts with pics of yr cats.

Je55e, Friday, 6 July 2012 18:58 (eleven years ago) link

Did you go with Chicago Pet Sitters??? Because they do that! They also leave absolutely PRECIOUS little notes about your cats. I love them so much.

John, I've often wanted to go to G.A.G. (lol) but I think that whole food court smells weird so I was skeptical. I'm going to try it on your recommendation.

carl agatha, Friday, 6 July 2012 19:24 (eleven years ago) link

The last time we had the pet sitters come, the sitter sent us a series of story-like texts based on the conceit that the cats had been out partying late the previous night, which was why they were so sleepy when she came to visit. She also signed off her text messages with one of the following closings: Bye for Meow! Have a mewo-velous day! Hope you have a "mice" day!!!

That is twee as HELL but seriously, I love it. I want the person who checks on my cats to be exactly like this person.

carl agatha, Friday, 6 July 2012 19:27 (eleven years ago) link

Whoops, I meant "meow-velous" obviously. OBVIOUSLY.

Also I am pleased and probably not surprised that so many of you remember your first Subway experience.

carl agatha, Friday, 6 July 2012 19:28 (eleven years ago) link

Ha!

Hey you know what? It's 100 degrees and not done getting hot yet. We're supposed to hit 104 today, and I have no problem believing that at all.

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Friday, 6 July 2012 19:30 (eleven years ago) link

I'm going to try it on your recommendation.

Keep in mind, the only thing I've had is the bi bim bap, so I can't vouch for the pho or anything else.

Never translate Dutch (jaymc), Friday, 6 July 2012 19:31 (eleven years ago) link

I'm going to go outside now. Because I've never been to Iraq in August before, and I want to simulate the experience. Hopefully without the IEDs.

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Friday, 6 July 2012 19:31 (eleven years ago) link

I just went outside. I didn't go far, but it was okay.

Having read some Green Apple Grill yelp reviews, I feel I must say that my problem with the smell of the food court isn't that it smells like a food court. It's that the second floor smells a little bit like trash.

You can bring your laptops/tablets here since there's free WiFi! I mean, it's from the McDonald's downstairs but hey, it works.

I hope the McDonald's wifi makes this person fat.

carl agatha, Friday, 6 July 2012 19:33 (eleven years ago) link

tokyo lunchbox was good! even if my tofu udon had like four pieces of tofu and they didn't make it spicy even after confirming that i wanted it spicy. it was still really tasty and i will eat there again.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 6 July 2012 19:44 (eleven years ago) link

also what's up with them calling it u-dong when everyone else calls it udon? some kind of immature JOKE?

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 6 July 2012 19:44 (eleven years ago) link

I am pleased and probably not surprised that so many of you remember your first Subway experience.

It's easier to remember since every time feels like the first time. In that it is exactly the same. It's some kind of holodeck of dining. You can call up the same program again and again, and it never changes. It's more true for Subway than it is for any other fast food restaurant, I would argue, even McDonald's. Burger King has a more varied menu, FFS.

speaking of immature jokes, our external relations person just sent us a draft of our monthly newsletter with the organization name "b1g duck" spelled as "b1g d1ck."

The other day out of nowhere I remembered the tables at Wendy's with the old-timey newspaper ads printed upon them.

Never translate Dutch (jaymc), Friday, 6 July 2012 19:53 (eleven years ago) link

I remember those!!! My mom and I used to go to Wendy's a lot back when they had the food bar because it was cheap as well and conveniently located off the highway between our house and where my mom was going to school.

I laugh at U-DONG p much every time I see the sign.

Aaaand my boss just came in and is eating a Subway sub at his desk.

carl agatha, Friday, 6 July 2012 19:58 (eleven years ago) link

when sarah was pregnant she got cravings for subway sandwiches and then it turned a corner where for a while even the smell of a subway restaurant totally revolted her

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 6 July 2012 20:05 (eleven years ago) link

I want to turn that corner. I really do. I wish that food that nasty revolted me.

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Friday, 6 July 2012 20:13 (eleven years ago) link

The other night, I ate veal and prosciutto in a heavy beef gravy. I would be a better person if I ate that every day than if I ate at Subway twice a week.

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Friday, 6 July 2012 20:40 (eleven years ago) link

I kind of don't understand that. If you actually thought Subway was that nasty, it would revolt you and you wouldn't eat it. But you don't think it's nasty so you eat it twice a week.

carl agatha, Friday, 6 July 2012 20:44 (eleven years ago) link

Unless this is some kind of weird self-flagellation thing. Like instead of wearing a hairshirt every day you eat Subway sandwiches for lunch sometimes.

carl agatha, Friday, 6 July 2012 20:47 (eleven years ago) link

It's not that hard. I crave it, eat it, and then regret it. You ever drink too much?

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Friday, 6 July 2012 20:49 (eleven years ago) link

Guys I'm out in western MN right now and I just want to say it's really hot here too.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Friday, 6 July 2012 20:59 (eleven years ago) link

If Subway sandwiches give you an increase sense of euphoria and well being, followed by slurred speech and difficulty balancing, heightened emotions and decreased inhibitions, followed by cause dehydration, headaches, and nausea the next day, then I can see that analogy, yes.

carl agatha, Friday, 6 July 2012 21:33 (eleven years ago) link

Ok stop it. You're defending Subway. Get a grip.

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Friday, 6 July 2012 21:36 (eleven years ago) link

we were going to go to springfield this weekend and now we don't have to! i feel like i got a reprieve!

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 6 July 2012 21:53 (eleven years ago) link

I'm not defending Subway! Subway is vile and people who crave it are disgusting savages.

carl agatha, Friday, 6 July 2012 22:03 (eleven years ago) link

O

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 6 July 2012 22:04 (eleven years ago) link

Sarah repented her savagery. All is forgiven.

I think the heat has finally broken! It's still kind of hot outside, but it doesn't feel like a hairdryer is blowing in my face

Yup.

Never translate Dutch (jaymc), Saturday, 7 July 2012 18:13 (eleven years ago) link

There's something resembling an almost coolish breeze out there, too.

Hey I finally heard that Call Me Maybe song! Or like 30 seconds of it while paying for a Slurpee in 7-11.

carl agatha, Saturday, 7 July 2012 19:38 (eleven years ago) link

this is crazy
here's your slurpee
call me maybe

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Saturday, 7 July 2012 19:39 (eleven years ago) link

Morbs, Hot Tix (www.hottix.org, our equivalent of TKTS) has tix for Steppenwolf/Letts's Three Sisters tonight for something like $25, if you need out of the heat and the bars.

Odd Spice (Eazy), Saturday, 7 July 2012 19:44 (eleven years ago) link

I also finally put two and 50,000 together when I realized all the "jokes" been reading on twitter about "something something/something crazy/here's a something/call me maybe" are because of that song, at the same time I figured out I was hearing the song. It was a moment of cherry/Coke flavor epiphany.

after a few listens, I love "call me maybe".

c.r. jepsen is a delight.

we're seriously considering going to the "rock around the block" fest to see the led zeppelin cover band this afternoon

now that the weather is broken, we have jesse's more powerful a/c installed in our living room and it is blissfully cold. however we are learning a lot about the locations and abilities of the fuses in our apartment.

congratulations (n/a), Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:58 (eleven years ago) link

oooh is it the one with bruce lamont in it?!?!

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Saturday, 7 July 2012 21:01 (eleven years ago) link

(the zep cover band, not the a/c)

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Saturday, 7 July 2012 21:02 (eleven years ago) link

probably not. It's Kashmir
