'independent' is doing a lot of unneccessary work in that blurb, for one thing

if you are a false nine don't entry (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 12 July 2012 14:10 (eleven years ago) link

you're not a jerk; this is annoying and even though art is work, imo any real artist would be a bit embarrassed to have their life/work/art talked about like this on a poster that seems to speak for all artists. work is work and sometimes it's passionate and sometimes it's art.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 12 July 2012 14:13 (eleven years ago) link

i feel like such a crank cuz people share that all over the place on facebook and the responses to it are always OH GOD YES A THOUSAND TIMES I CAN'T LIKE THIS ENOUGH POWER TO THE PEOPLE and i'm always tempted to post something really mean but i don't cuz i'm not THAT big of a jerk.

scott seward, Thursday, 12 July 2012 14:13 (eleven years ago) link

it's REALLY narcissistic and kinda weird to think that people buy art in order to suck up the "passion" of the artist like a vampire. people like art so they can form their own meanings/interpretations/relationships to it.

ryan, Thursday, 12 July 2012 14:14 (eleven years ago) link

"my SOUL is in this, that's why it's valuable"-- you keep it then!

ryan, Thursday, 12 July 2012 14:14 (eleven years ago) link

also this boils down to: gimme money so i can continue to be all about my passions and inner life.

ryan, Thursday, 12 July 2012 14:15 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i don't really want most people's souls!

scott seward, Thursday, 12 July 2012 14:16 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i think it reminds me of the kickstarter guilt-y thing.

scott seward, Thursday, 12 July 2012 14:16 (eleven years ago) link

ledge, Thursday, 12 July 2012 14:16 (eleven years ago) link

like we must support as many people as possible to do art? can't support everyone. then i start to feel bad for people who are like...starving to death in the world.

scott seward, Thursday, 12 July 2012 14:17 (eleven years ago) link

just what i always wanted thousands of hours of failure

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 July 2012 14:17 (eleven years ago) link

and maybe i'm just jealous cuz i have had to work full-time since i was 19? i could never afford to "do art" all day. and i'm a well-respected fictional character! i would love an art holiday. i do what i can with the time that i have. but that is my problem and not soul-giving artist's problem.

scott seward, Thursday, 12 July 2012 14:19 (eleven years ago) link

yeah that thousandth failure might actually be a clue...time to rethink the art thing.

scott seward, Thursday, 12 July 2012 14:19 (eleven years ago) link

hahaaa

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 12 July 2012 14:20 (eleven years ago) link

You are buying hundreds of hours of experimentation and thousands of failures.

I do not want to buy the experimentation or failures. I just want to buy this particular piece of art.

You are buying days, weeks, months, years of frustration and moments of pure joy.

I'm certainly not getting days, weeks, and months from this purchase, and if I were able to buy additional time I wouldn't want to buy time that includes frustration. Just the high octane serenity time.

You are buying nights of worry about paying the rent, having enough money to eat, having enough money to feecd the children, the birds, the dog.

Do not want.

You aren't just buying a thing, you are buying a piece of heart,

Gross.

it's funny that you read that and then you buy like this weird blob-painting kinda thing or quirky sculpture. gimme the 9th symphony if it comes with all that sturm and drang.

Will Chave (Hurting 2), Thursday, 12 July 2012 14:27 (eleven years ago) link

as much as i'd love it if someone paid me my current salary to sit at home for a year and write fiction, i understand that the way the world works is that first you create the art on your own time and at your own expense, and then if you're lucky and people like it, maybe you'll get funded for the next project. if people don't like the current project, you don't get paid.

When you buy from MegaCorp, you're purchasing more than just life insurance. You're buying hundreds of hours of endless board meetings and administrative errors. You are buying days of multiple signature sign-offs, mind numbingly tedious health and safety audits. You are buying days, weeks, months of redundancy fears, family problems and very little joy. You aren't just buying a thing, you are buying a piece of people's livelihoods. More importantly, you are buying our workers more time to do something that they may not be passionate about, but are thankful for; something that makes all the fear and the doubt just about worth getting out of bed for every single mindnumbing day.

a huge part of the problem with all memes, posts, shares and internet humor now is that they're all bogged down with baroquely cutesy wording to try and freshen up a banal observation, minor factoid, or low-wattage punchline. typically by just plugging it into whatever was last summer's trending sassy verbal construction. everything is just encrusted with verbiage.

We do not talk enough about how the creator of bobs burgers has successfully switched the animated family dinamic from confrontational and toxic, to wholesome and loving. They successfully proved an animated show focused on a family doesn't have to exhibit some sort of abuse between eachother, in order to be entertaining or funny. The belchers represent the healthier and more idealistic depiction of a modern american family. They consistently touch on relatable and realistic problems from childhood life lessons to complicated adult conflicts all while not failing to maintain a consistent comedic relief. Bobs burgers is such a comforting show to watch if you grew up with any sort of childhood trauma or parental issues. It's also a great show to watch anyways because it's genuinely just such a fun, entertaining show. We need to praise bobs burgers more!

Not only is this not why I love Bob's Burgers, this feels like something one of my Deacons would have said I'm high school

Jesus is everything a thinkpiece now

Mommas of Daughters,

Remember… they called her a distraction.

Even when he took the field in a team sport.
Even when she sat on the sidelines.
Even when the cameras panned to her.
Even when she is successful in her own right as a solo artist.
Even when the franchise made money off of her.
Even when the male dominated industry used her presence to bring itself out of years of declining popularity.

She was the distraction. Remember?

When society decided it was totally acceptable to call women distractions, remind them that what society is really trying to say is that they are still afraid of women with power.

Mommas of Daughters, teach them to enter the room, the arena, any space with heads held high and a peace of mind that their distraction won’t warrant any type of reaction from her.

✍️: Backwards N High Heels

Like I like Taylor, think there was definitely misogyny present amongst male fans who complained about her presence or would call Kelce things like "cuck". I think their relationship is cute. I enjoyed watching her celebrate at games. People who are bothered by it can grow up.

But JFC, the NFL's income has increased every year except 2020, and this year's TV ratings during the regular season were the second highest in recorded history. So suggesting she singlehandedly saved football is hilarious.
