I am only going to make cultural references to books or TV shows I made up in my brain. I'm an equal-opportunity gatekeeper.

I've known a couple of people who frequently make casual references to relatively obscure people or historical events in a way that's not necessarily ostentatious so much as just oblivious of their audience. In conversations like that, I feel simultaneously annoyed that their communication isn't more inclusive and flattered that they assume I can keep up.

I think I have such a bad memory that I can't make any references because I can't remember them.

I will consume pizza tomorrow for a good cause.

I am a maybe for pub quiz. It sounds fun but also this week is kinda nuts.

I'm too tired and hot to be around people about whom I care enough to not want to subject to my tired and hotness (except Jeff, per our vows: "In tiredness and in hot, in sickness and in health, for as long as we can take it").

I was talking w/ my roomates in New Orleans and one of them said something funny that reminded me of a Simpson's episode from years back. I said "Haha, that's like the time Lisa said _____." They paused, right as one of them asked who Lisa was, another said, "...are you talking about Lisa Simpson?"

Pretty embarrassing b/c I wasn't even intentionally making a reference, just talking about my friend Lisa ;__;

Yeah, I mean I would probably just come straight from work, so the heat is a negligible concern for me, but this weather is no fun to bike in.

Who was I telling that the reason that Southerners are so stupid and lazy and useless, vile people was because it is so hot down there. Especially New Orleanians. It might have been Jenny. Heat is also probably the reason for their proclivity for bigotry and incest.

There was an actual study that linked hot climates to lower IQs but holy shit if you try to search "hot climate low IQ study" it's impossible to wade through the swamp of racist shit about countries in Africa. Also I think the study was kind of terrible.

Hot weather makes me feel dumb but that's because when it's this hot and I'm hot, too, the only thing I can think about is how hot I am and how am I going to stop being this hot? There's some brain override that's just like EMERGENCY HEAT WARNING SHIELDS UP BATTLE STATIONS and it's just all Drudge sirens in my head until I can cool off.

This kind of heat wave makes me feel like I can hear the larger dynamos in my brain being shut down and whining to a stop. It's not just about thinking about the discomfort; it's a more fundamental diminishment of energy, like when a headache or nausea makes concentration difficult.

I read last week that ^^ phenomenon happens when the temperature outside is around the same as the body's temp, so the body can't give off its heat. Something like that.

I'm waiting until 9:00 to go to bed, but I could easily pour myself into bed right now. It really feels like some kind of heat-induced hybernation. I did my body a favor by eating 3" of a sub and a handful of chips, and by having most of an egg and cheese bagel for lunch, but both I didn't really want them.

I'm talkin about the heat on 3 threads now. lol?

Made that mango oatmeal again and stirred in some yogurt. Damn, this is good. I'm going to try it with other fruits. Also I realized that someday when hot cereal doesn't sound as appealing as a Hot Carl (no relation), I can do the overnight fridge thing and then just throw it in the microwave the next day.

That sounds really good. Hot breakfast is only really interesting for me at brunch.

Tho actually breakfast itself is only really appealing at brunch time on days off. Regardless, cold oats are right up my bailiwick.

It sounded really good until you went and screwed it all up by adding yogurt. I have a probably irrational disgust for yogurt.

My dad used to pour boiling water on whole (raw) oats and soak them overnight in a thermos. In the morning they were firm but chewable - al dente - and delicious with honey and fruit. Also super easy to make.

ugh i hate ilx so fucking much sometimes. i think i'm going to hang around until i run the Kraftwek poll later this summer (i'm really excited for that, even got all my images picked out already) and then give up on message boards. its like every day the rest of this site, with the exception of a few key threads, just fills up more and more with trolls and bullies.

It's good to take an ILX break every now and then. Since my last break, I've been really selective what threads I read and studiously avoid the ones that seemed designed to bully people (and it's always "easy targets" and it's almost always by the same group of nincompoops) like the zing thread or posts very much in character. It's better that way.

oh yeah, i do a little thing called "biting my tongue" and "not reading things that irritate me" as a rule

i don't always do the first, but you would be surprised what came out if i didn't do it at all
