Fucking kids and their ironic detachment and fear of sincerity IMO.

this is pretty much why I took a break from ilx. but now instead of leaving altogether I will just avoid engaging certain posters.

hi btw!

Dan - My cousin in Mexico friended me and at first glance I thought you were a mutual friend b/c of this https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dani-Martin/106046552768232?rf=107977299229886

LL, this post reminded me of what you were saying about using references to gate-keep:

Giving 'normal people' pop-cultural references or long words that are just one shade too obscure for that particular person to get, requiring convoluted explanation.

Fucking kids and their ironic detachment and fear of sincerity IMO.

Those aren't the kids anymore. +30 = irony. -30 = absurdity.

Odd Spice (Eazy), Thursday, 19 July 2012 13:27 (eleven years ago) link

I'm almost 40 so I'm really into diagnostic healthcare and going to bed early.

carl agatha, Thursday, 19 July 2012 13:46 (eleven years ago) link

+40 = bingo.

Huh. I had no idea who that person was. He's handsome, though.

Those dudes are high.

^ exactly what I was gonna post

DX Dx DX (dan m), Thursday, 19 July 2012 16:57 (eleven years ago) link

I forgot to mention that R and I had some food at Bad Apple last night and at one point there were both Eazy and askance johnson dopplegangers in the back room that made me do a double-take.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Thursday, 19 July 2012 19:17 (eleven years ago) link

was my doppelganger hanging out with eazy's doppelganger?

i invented steampunk (askance johnson), Thursday, 19 July 2012 19:32 (eleven years ago) link

How did you find the food, Daniel?

carl agatha, Thursday, 19 July 2012 19:34 (eleven years ago) link

btw Homemade Pizza Co's pizza was actually great, though I still don't know if I can generally get behind the idea of paying twenty bucks for a pizza I then have to cook.

i invented steampunk (askance johnson), Thursday, 19 July 2012 19:41 (eleven years ago) link

I like it because you get a pizza that is actually hot.

Jeff, Thursday, 19 July 2012 19:55 (eleven years ago) link

Oh, have you never had it before? We used to get it a lot, but have shifted into cooking more so it's been awhile. But I love it. We got the barbecue chicken pizza and more or less destroyed it like ravenous wolves.

carl agatha, Thursday, 19 July 2012 19:56 (eleven years ago) link

Also we started saying things like, "I can't wait until pizza night!" like, last Thursday. Ha.

carl agatha, Thursday, 19 July 2012 19:56 (eleven years ago) link

No, I'd never had it before. As I said, I was kind of turned off by the whole concept. But now that I've had it I can see how it could be a good idea. Though frankly I am a huge devotee of frozen pizzas and that will probably never change.

i invented steampunk (askance johnson), Thursday, 19 July 2012 19:59 (eleven years ago) link

The dopplegangers weren't hanging out together, unfortunately. Eazy's had a couple of kids with him, though.

I had eaten at Bad Apple once before. I had a porchetta sandwich, which was good but I'm trying to cut out as much bread/starch as I can, and thus eating a sandwich and some fries was a stupid idea. I felt kind of gross afterward.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:01 (eleven years ago) link

btw is anyone else buying tickets to the RevBrew event for CWHC?

DX Dx DX (dan m), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:02 (eleven years ago) link

The HPC BBQ pizza is fantastic, as far as those things go. I completely intended to pick up a pizza on my way home last night, but Cubs traffic significantly fucked up my travel home and I was so annoyed that I just went home. I didn't have the patience for another stop at that point.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:03 (eleven years ago) link

xp The last couple times we've ordered pizza it's been from Naked Pizza, which just opened down the street from us. Their veggie pizza is really good, and it's close enough to still be hot when it arrives.

Obviously we are buying RevBrew tickets. Although we might get them at the door to avoid the service fee. I hate service fees.

No worries, JVC. Cubs traffic ruins everything.

carl agatha, Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:04 (eleven years ago) link

i've been eating a lot of pizza lately. i think the best is when we get pizza dough from TJs and put our own toppings/sauce on it, but we get delivery sometimes (usually from la villa) or frozen tombstone or TJs pizza. i like homemade pizza co. but usually TJs dough + toppings is just as good and easy and a lot cheaper.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:14 (eleven years ago) link

Pretty much the only pizza we ever do is TJ's frozen pizza, which is like $4, iirc. We get the margherita one and then chop up a few of our own veggies to put on top.

Never translate Dutch (jaymc), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:34 (eleven years ago) link

I'm gonna try to do the RevBrew thing.

Never translate Dutch (jaymc), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:34 (eleven years ago) link

Yay!

carl agatha, Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:35 (eleven years ago) link

Jeff, Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:39 (eleven years ago) link

Oh!

Never translate Dutch (jaymc), Friday, 20 July 2012 03:47 (eleven years ago) link

Then I invite you all to join me there tomorrow.

Never translate Dutch (jaymc), Friday, 20 July 2012 05:03 (eleven years ago) link

I can't go tonight for perhaps the dorkiest reason ever.

Jeff, Friday, 20 July 2012 11:55 (eleven years ago) link

I would love to go (and also see you guys) but I have a date with my demon lover, Agalloch.

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Friday, 20 July 2012 12:49 (eleven years ago) link

I'll drink an Allagash while you're at Agalloch.

Never translate Dutch (jaymc), Friday, 20 July 2012 13:11 (eleven years ago) link

Perfect. I still don't know what I'm wearing but at least the heat wave broke.

HOW ABOUT THAT?! It feels like a brand new world out there, a world I can go out into and not sizzle like a pierogi.

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Friday, 20 July 2012 13:13 (eleven years ago) link

Have fun at Agalloch, LL! I'll be partaking in more dorky events tonight as well.

Are you guys going to see The Dark Knight Rises tonight or

Never translate Dutch (jaymc), Friday, 20 July 2012 13:20 (eleven years ago) link

lol, i am. not sure about jeff's dorky plans.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 20 July 2012 13:21 (eleven years ago) link

Jeff has been to A Christmas Carol in Klingon, ffs, I doubt Batman would seem dorky to him even if he were in costume.

Je55e, Friday, 20 July 2012 13:31 (eleven years ago) link

I'm pleased about the weather. I am annoyed with my fellow Chicagoans who think that a high of 81 means jacket weather. Dummies. I'm not pleased that it's going to be back in the 90s all next week starting tomorrow.

carl agatha, Friday, 20 July 2012 13:45 (eleven years ago) link

I have no idea what dorky thing Jeff is doing, though. We have plans to take advantage of the cooler temps to open all the windows and air out the house, which smells like it's been closed up and air conditioned for a month straight. Bleh.

carl agatha, Friday, 20 July 2012 13:46 (eleven years ago) link

That's not dorky, though. That's necessary.

carl agatha, Friday, 20 July 2012 13:47 (eleven years ago) link

amen -- i hate that smell, it reminds me of canteloupe in the trash
my windows are open too

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Friday, 20 July 2012 13:52 (eleven years ago) link

Oh dear, cantaloupe in the trash is horrible. HORRIBLE.

I've been looking forward to The Airing since I figured out we'd get a little heat respite. I'm going to wash the curtains that we use to block off parts of the house for the AC and the couch slip cover, too. So fresh and so clean clean.
