I can't go tonight for perhaps the dorkiest reason ever.

Jeff, Friday, 20 July 2012 11:55 (eleven years ago) link

I would love to go (and also see you guys) but I have a date with my demon lover, Agalloch.

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Friday, 20 July 2012 12:49 (eleven years ago) link

I'll drink an Allagash while you're at Agalloch.

Never translate Dutch (jaymc), Friday, 20 July 2012 13:11 (eleven years ago) link

Perfect. I still don't know what I'm wearing but at least the heat wave broke.

HOW ABOUT THAT?! It feels like a brand new world out there, a world I can go out into and not sizzle like a pierogi.

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Friday, 20 July 2012 13:13 (eleven years ago) link

Have fun at Agalloch, LL! I'll be partaking in more dorky events tonight as well.

Are you guys going to see The Dark Knight Rises tonight or

Never translate Dutch (jaymc), Friday, 20 July 2012 13:20 (eleven years ago) link

lol, i am. not sure about jeff's dorky plans.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 20 July 2012 13:21 (eleven years ago) link

Jeff has been to A Christmas Carol in Klingon, ffs, I doubt Batman would seem dorky to him even if he were in costume.

Je55e, Friday, 20 July 2012 13:31 (eleven years ago) link

I'm pleased about the weather. I am annoyed with my fellow Chicagoans who think that a high of 81 means jacket weather. Dummies. I'm not pleased that it's going to be back in the 90s all next week starting tomorrow.

carl agatha, Friday, 20 July 2012 13:45 (eleven years ago) link

I have no idea what dorky thing Jeff is doing, though. We have plans to take advantage of the cooler temps to open all the windows and air out the house, which smells like it's been closed up and air conditioned for a month straight. Bleh.

carl agatha, Friday, 20 July 2012 13:46 (eleven years ago) link

That's not dorky, though. That's necessary.

carl agatha, Friday, 20 July 2012 13:47 (eleven years ago) link

amen -- i hate that smell, it reminds me of canteloupe in the trash
my windows are open too

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Friday, 20 July 2012 13:52 (eleven years ago) link

Oh dear, cantaloupe in the trash is horrible. HORRIBLE.

I've been looking forward to The Airing since I figured out we'd get a little heat respite. I'm going to wash the curtains that we use to block off parts of the house for the AC and the couch slip cover, too. So fresh and so clean clean.

carl agatha, Friday, 20 July 2012 14:17 (eleven years ago) link

The dorky thing is not something I am doing, but something that I cannot do tonight, so I can do it tomorrow.

Jeff, Friday, 20 July 2012 14:49 (eleven years ago) link

Jesus, so mysterious.

Je55e, Friday, 20 July 2012 15:04 (eleven years ago) link

this is where jeff reveals that he is a brony.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

carl agatha, Friday, 20 July 2012 15:11 (eleven years ago) link

I know what the dorky thing is, and it is super anticlimactic.

carl agatha, Friday, 20 July 2012 15:12 (eleven years ago) link

how dorky could it be that it cannot be mentioned?

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Friday, 20 July 2012 15:18 (eleven years ago) link

Twitter tells me that Jeff is going to Atlas on Sat. -- maybe it's a fancy beer meet-up or something.

Never translate Dutch (jaymc), Friday, 20 July 2012 15:28 (eleven years ago) link

I am going here tonight: http://www.urbanunionchicago.com/

That looks good, Dan.

Never translate Dutch (jaymc), Friday, 20 July 2012 15:58 (eleven years ago) link

I walked past a group of singing, dancing, drumming, smiling Hare Krishnas on the way back from lunch. I kind of wanted to join them.

carl agatha, Friday, 20 July 2012 19:24 (eleven years ago) link

i was in intelligentsia and one of the baristas from the starbucks behind my work came in to order a drink - embarrassing for her! she is very recognizable because she has white girl dreads.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 20 July 2012 19:41 (eleven years ago) link

i was fancy and ordered a cappuccino

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 20 July 2012 19:42 (eleven years ago) link

This weather is stunning. I thought it was about 74, but it's 81. We live in a fucked up area.

Je55e, Friday, 20 July 2012 20:01 (eleven years ago) link

I mean, when I went outside I was like, "ah, it's the perfect days like this that really makes the other 355 miserable days worth it." shades of "but he can be so sweet to me!"

Je55e, Friday, 20 July 2012 20:03 (eleven years ago) link

(did i just make light of domestic violence? is that "not on"?)

Je55e, Friday, 20 July 2012 20:03 (eleven years ago) link

anyone have any great dinner restaurant recommendations in the belmont/broadway area?

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 20 July 2012 20:33 (eleven years ago) link

Chipotle?

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 20 July 2012 20:36 (eleven years ago) link

Sorry. What's your price, food style preference, and how far is your geographical radius?

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 20 July 2012 20:37 (eleven years ago) link

There is a new banh mi place on the NW corner.

Je55e, Friday, 20 July 2012 20:37 (eleven years ago) link

every time the chi thread mentions chipotle, i crave burritos for weeks. srsly.

i am v burrito-suggestible.

JuliaA, Friday, 20 July 2012 20:40 (eleven years ago) link

parents are paying so like ... mid-range? normal? we just never eat anywhere over there so i thought it might fun to find somewhere in that area instead of going the same places we always go. not sure about food style preference, was just wondering if people had faves over there.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 20 July 2012 20:40 (eleven years ago) link

Adesso at Broadway and Buckingham is good. Ping Pong is good if annoying. I do not care for Joy's Noodles but other people do and it's cheap. Stella's is a solid diner option (great matzoh ball soup). Angelina Ristorante at Broadway and Addison is wonderful (good parent place IMO).

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 20 July 2012 20:41 (eleven years ago) link

Adesso is closed now. I think.

Jeff, Friday, 20 July 2012 20:41 (eleven years ago) link

http://www.angelinaristorante.com/dinnermenu/

I'm a big fan of this place because it's quiet and pleasant and the food is v. good.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 20 July 2012 20:42 (eleven years ago) link

El Nuevo Mexicano on Clark and Oakdale is very good.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 20 July 2012 20:43 (eleven years ago) link

I'd say Chilam Balam. Even though I've never been there.

Jeff, Friday, 20 July 2012 20:43 (eleven years ago) link

HB Home Bistro

Trewster Dare (jaymc), Friday, 20 July 2012 20:43 (eleven years ago) link

La Creperie on Clark almost at Broadway is good and I think it's a fun place to eat because it's all Frenchified and makes me feel worldly.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 20 July 2012 20:44 (eleven years ago) link

We need to eat at HB. I don't know why we haven't yet.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 20 July 2012 20:45 (eleven years ago) link

Jeff, I know I've asked you this 1000 times but what is that place where we ate on Halsted because we had a groupon and the decor was kind of prosaic but really comforting and homey and the food was great?

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 20 July 2012 20:46 (eleven years ago) link

ha my parents' idea was "something mediterranean" which matches zero of the restaurants i've been looking at

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 20 July 2012 20:48 (eleven years ago) link

I enjoyed Chilam Balam overall, although I felt like the execution didn't always match the creative ambition. I'd like to try it again before recommending it.

Trewster Dare (jaymc), Friday, 20 July 2012 20:48 (eleven years ago) link

We need to eat at HB. I don't know why we haven't yet.

You should! Both of the times I've eaten there, the staff was v. friendly and the food was great.

Trewster Dare (jaymc), Friday, 20 July 2012 20:51 (eleven years ago) link

ZAD on Broadway and Barry is Mediterranean but I don't know if I've ever eaten there. There's Cousin's at Broadway/Clark/Diversey and I think I have eaten there and seem to recall liking it. Unless that is the place where Jesse and I went and walked out of before even ordering because the service was so ludicrously horrible. But I think that place might have been in Andersonville and I think I like Cousins.

I'm fond of Yummy Yummy, too, even though the name is terrible. They have a huge vegetarian selection.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 20 July 2012 20:53 (eleven years ago) link

I've never been, but for Mediterranean, there's also Andalous at Clark/School.

Trewster Dare (jaymc), Friday, 20 July 2012 20:54 (eleven years ago) link

But I think that place might have been in Andersonville and I think I like Cousins.

There used to be a Cousins in Andersonville -- where Jin Ju is now -- but I think it must have predated your living here.

Trewster Dare (jaymc), Friday, 20 July 2012 20:55 (eleven years ago) link

ugh i hate organizing this stuff, texting between me and sarah and my parents, trying to come to a decision and make everyone happy.
