ya I was gonna say people should all just get folding bikes or (soon) use bikeshare anyway
― iatee, Wednesday, 8 August 2012 00:00 (eleven years ago) link
I want everything I own to fold into something smaller
Generally, ppl who bring a bike onto the A train at 9am are not worried about anyone else. This bespectacled young dbag didn't give a shit.

maybe we should stop letting wheelchair-ridden folks on the buses too

that is not really the same thing at all, is it
― mookieproof, Wednesday, 8 August 2012 03:30 (eleven years ago) link
it's the same thing in that wheelchairs throw off bus schedules, it's not the same thing in that people don't choose to be in wheelchairs

i'm just being a jerk. sorry.

tonight it was a car that made a turn through the stop sign w/o stopping, so i am an equal-opportunity hater of assholes.
I, also, have opinions on cars
but basically you have to think of the system as a whole, in lots of other places w/ shitty transit options, having bike racks on buses is prob worth the cost to system-wide efficiency cause it makes it easier to live w/o a car and public transit doesn't have the same kinda scope. in a place w/ a very extensive public transit system that millions of people rely on, w/ crowded trains and buses and tight schedules, anything that takes up space or slows things down has an effect on a lot of people

7 train delays again today. i swear the 7 train has had problems during evening rush hour quite a lot recently. hopefully it will resolve itself by 5...
― rayuela, Wednesday, 8 August 2012 20:52 (eleven years ago) link
whoops, unrealistic. for some reason i thought it was still 4:30.
7 train service "suspended"--might be a good day to call in sick if you're not already out and about. As for myself, I'm on a bus floating eastward on Roosevelt.

wow, I finally took the E to queens late nite the other night -- it's like bizarro E train! There are like 20 stops between my work and home instead of three!

yeah it doesn't make sense to have as much express service late at night, you gotta take the f instead

I think interviewers here are probably more forgiving of the lateness-due-to-train story d

― purveyor of generations (in orbit), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 16:54 (eleven years ago) link
well keep in mind that was the first station of the entire system and there is a nice little loop for the 6 train right now and extending it would cost like 5 billion dollars

they aren't even supposed to ask you to get off if you just say 'no I just wanna go uptown'

I assume this is ironical (city hall, courthouses, etc.)
I fell asleep on the 6 once and didn't know about the loop -- I got all panicked when I woke up in the tunnel and hit the call box, but they were just like "it's cool, stay on the train until we come around"
― look at this quarterstaff (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 17:33 (eleven years ago) link
I hadn't mentioned this yet, but last Friday I was on the front of the first car on a train that struck and killed a person in Brooklyn. It was very freaky and bizarre. And no, I didn't see a thing (but felt and heard it), and made certain not to turn my head when exiting. The train operator was SHAKEN and in a bit of a panic. On the mezzanine, I heard another train coming in the other direction and ran down with my friend and hopped on, so that we were strangely at our intended destination as planned that evening, and so the fatality seems sort of dreamlike. Like, I woke up the next day after dreaming about it all night, and it took a little convincing myself that it actually happened. Not to be a downer. The 6 train loop rules.

wow that's crazy. was it an accident or a suicide?
― iatee, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 17:39 (eleven years ago) link
Both ends of my E-train commute now have extremely narrow walkways on the platform (due in part to elevator rehab, I think), and I'm always afraid I'm either going to trip, get pushed or accidentally push someone else onto the platform, but I keep doing the walk to be that much closer to my exit when I get off.

Seems like it was an accident. The only news story I found about it was this:http://www.news12.com/articleDetail.jsp?articleId=334484&position=1&news_type=news#fb_jump
