As far as music video commentary: the Helium video ("that chick's weird) and King Missile's "Detachable Penis" (where they don't even talk, just stare in disbelief).

And Johnny Cash, "Delia's Gone": "Is this gangsta rap?"

Do the current MTV reruns have the music videos?

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Sunday, 4 April 2004 17:18 (twenty years ago) link

Holy shit. The funniest episode EVER is the one where Beavis thinks he's pregnant. It turns out he just really has to take a dump. I almost peed the last time I saw it.

Some lines I still use:
"I can HANDLE it."
"Take one of the captain."

NA (Nick A.), Sunday, 4 April 2004 19:11 (twenty years ago) link

I have to go w/the nosebleed episode. Haven't caught any episodes again on MTV though, when are they sowing them?

I like the one where they wanted to be a band. "Hey remember when we were a band?" "You mean today?"

Aja (aja), Sunday, 4 April 2004 19:22 (twenty years ago) link

they are on mtv2 and i'm not sure exactly when. but yeah, they have the videos and everything

"Yeah Beavis, stop "screwing" with him"

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:42 (twenty years ago) link

sorry if these arent 100% right on, it's been a long while.

confusing "Sold my Fortune" for "Sold my Futon"

"check it out. I give to the poor" butthead, stuffing photocopied coins into a charity box at the store, trying to impress the cashier girl.

"chicks have crotches? well I'll be damned", B&B watching pj harvey dance on the back on a truck.

AaronK (AaronK), Monday, 5 April 2004 17:03 (twenty years ago) link

When Beavis thought that Tori Amos was Dave Mustaine and started singing along like Dave, I've got a BOWLING BALL in my STOMACH / I got a DESSERT, in my MOUTH...

Mr. Anderson: "I'd like a hamburger, a milkshake, and a small fry."
Butthead: "What?"
Mr. Anderson: "I didn't order 'what'!"

beavis: he's good!
butthead: he's God!!

Beavis and Butthead are on MTV2 right now.

Oh, is that "Rattled by the Rush"? That's great. "Those guys are lazy."

daria g (daria g), Sunday, 11 April 2004 01:19 (twenty years ago) link

haha no, it's some awful looking 1995 alterna-band. they get bored and turn off the tv and flip out. the rattled by the rush one is great too though.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 11 April 2004 01:23 (twenty years ago) link

That was the video they actually turned off, wasn't it? But then of course they didn't know what to say to one another. "So, uh... You get any lately?"

Prude (Prude), Sunday, 11 April 2004 01:51 (twenty years ago) link

"what did you do today?" "i've been sitting here all day with you"

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 11 April 2004 01:51 (twenty years ago) link

Wasn't it a Pizzicato 5 video? -

Butthead: He looks like the idiot in 'My Three Sons' who's always saying 'Hey! Uncle Charlie!'

Beavis: My three sons of bitches!

Printed words don't do this proper justice, but it really was one of the funniest things I ever heard.

Also, the episode when they went to shop class and Beavis slices off his finger on the table saw.

Mike Judge is a genius. I mean that wholeheartedly. He captured something so perfectly with B&B. Whenever I watch that show I'm in awe of his perceptive/translative skills.

Broheems (diamond), Sunday, 11 April 2004 08:55 (twenty years ago) link

It's like, the 'Todd' thing is so perfect; the way these total losers act so supercilious towards EVERYTHING they encounter. Except whenever they encounter Todd, a guy painted even more dense and unfeeling than they are, they are in complete awe. I mean, they would do anything to get Todd's approval. Their complete fecklessness with females, the homoerotic "subtext", their disdain for all manner of garbage would-be "alternative" music. It's beautiful.

I like the one where they put motor oil in the deep fat fryer at the fast food restaurant they work at. Also when they are forced by the hippie teacher dude (!) to join the self-help group and they get all the recovering alcoholics to bag it and go buy them beer.

Broheems (diamond), Sunday, 11 April 2004 09:03 (twenty years ago) link

I think Daria may have been even better. It was absolutely fantastic.

I think one of the funniest lines on Daria was when they were going paintballing and one of the dorky kids asks the Vietnam veteran type teacher "will we be running a buddy system on the trip"

And he just seeths and his eye bulges and goes, "I HAD A BUDDY ONCE, THEN I GOT HOOOOOOOOOME, AND HE'D MARRIED. MY. MOOOOOOOTHER!"

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 11 April 2004 10:13 (twenty years ago) link

Ronan, I am very disappointed in you.

Ricardo (RickyT), Sunday, 11 April 2004 10:52 (twenty years ago) link

Am I better than this?

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 11 April 2004 10:52 (twenty years ago) link

Yes. Preferring Daria to Beavis and Butthead is, well, a little infra dig dear.

Ricardo (RickyT), Sunday, 11 April 2004 10:56 (twenty years ago) link

OTM. When I was in high school and the show first started, I hated it, because I was like, "What the fuck, it's just like hanging out with the guys in the smoking section, so what?" After I'd graduated and caught it again in reruns, I said, "Holy shit, it's just like hanging out with the guys in the smoking section, that's genius."

Does anyone else have friends whose whole sense of humor, nay, their whole personality, is based on acting like Butthead, which probably started as a joke, but they couldn't stop talking like that and it eventually took over their life, or is it just me?

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 12 April 2004 01:55 (twenty years ago) link

I think I would have if Kevin Smith hadn't cockblocked Butthead.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 12 April 2004 01:57 (twenty years ago) link

Fortunately (I guess), the friend I'm thinking of missed that boat. No, wait, that's definately a "Fortunately."

i knew a guy from high school who has practically a dead-ringer for beavis -- both looks-wise AND personality-wise.

Meanwhile the second episode of B&B will air in the week of Bobby Hill's 37th birthday
