See, these were the kinds of words of warning I might have hoped for. If Last.fm can scrobble You Tube, so what? Just because heroin is supposed to make me feel good, does that mean I should do it? I think not!

eh that thread isnt a terrible idea and some ppl are suggesting bands that 'fit' but it mostly just seems to be people listing 'indie friendly dance acts' which is... dumb

max, Thursday, 12 February 2009 11:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Even if you think Max Tundra is the shittest thing ever trying to use him as the starting point for a vague ill-defined genre really *is* a terrible idea

ya that thread is like dumping on "indie" 101 i mean who fucking cares anymore about classifying something as indie and then criticizing it for being indie... total insecure douchebag behavior imo

I only went in that thread for 30 seconds. Wouldn't 80% of the things mentioned in that thread fit into the frankenstein dance thread too?

Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 13 February 2009 00:31 (fifteen years ago) link

pretty sure they'd fit the 'human after all thread' tbh.

special guest stars mark bronson, Friday, 13 February 2009 00:42 (fifteen years ago) link

im not reading that thread but if its based around max tundra then it has nothing to do w/ frankendance

LOOK WHAT I BRING TO THE TABLA (deej), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:23 (fifteen years ago) link

slightly off topic, would i be correct in saying the first yearly poll for ILM was 2002 and there were no organized ilm polls for 2000 and 2001 or indeed 2003?

before a decade poll early next year, these need organizing first

i love how dj martian is endlessly fascinated by rate your music rankings—i just saw him musing on how they now seem to be influenced by pitchfork—im like, isn't this just a music website where a couple thousand people list the music they like? it's not like some sort of zeitgeisty super-poll or anything... i mean outside of him who has even heard of it?

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Thursday, 19 February 2009 13:25 (fifteen years ago) link

'90-'94 probably my least favorite half-decade for music since the early '20s or something; basically, I like Spanish-language rock music from then and not a whole lot else. Things seem to pick back up around '95 for me, though. So, second half, easy.

― xhuxk, Monday, February 23, 2009 4:08 AM (7 hours ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink

Actually, though, that's in terms of albums; it's possible I could be convinced that the early '90s were better for singles. (Which means my '20s etc. comparison makes no sense, since it's not like I listen to many albums from before the '60s. But the early '90s mostly bored me regardless.)
